Title: Cold Days Predict-a-thon. [All the latest Spoilers permitted]
Post by: knnn on September 13, 2012, 05:59:35 PM
So here's the plan.

I am going to pose a bunch of questions concerning predicitions for the next book.  Anyone who wants can submit their answers.  In two weeks I'll lock the thread so nobody can change their posts.  Then, after Cold Days comes out, I will grade each of the submissions and the winner(s) gets bragging rights.

Notes:

a) There are 9 questions, each graded based on correctness and specificness.  Feel free to be as crazy as you like; an answer of "Harry blows up a building" probably not be worth as much as "Harry blows up the Barad-dûr with Soulfire" if it turns out that he blew up Orthanc with Hellfire instead.

b) Grading will be done at my sole discretion, though I may appoint fellow graders -- especially if the number of submissions is large.  I will try to be fair, but I reserve the right to give extra credit to especially witty or creative answers.  Frankly, I haven't quite decided what the grading scheme should be, but I expect to have multiple awards such as "best single prediction", or "most amusing mis-prediction".

c) Please don't submit more than one set of answers.  Just edit your first submission if you want to change things.

d) The Blurb on the back of the book, the picture on the cover, and the first two chapters are available to the public already. There will probably be spoilers about those issues in this thread, so be warned (and don't be afraid to use them in your prediction).

e) While I don't expect them to contribute, if the Betas (or Jim) want to give some answers, they are totally welcome...   ;D

------------------

The Questions:

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,26613.0.html)/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

My Answers:

1 )In term of utility, Toot-Toot will be Harry's most important sidekick.  Harry will essentially have his own private army.  In terms of having someone to bounce ideas off of, and introduction to the courts, my guess is that Lea will be more help - along the lines of their interactions in GS.

2 )

a. Ebenezer will be the first person to find out Harry is alive.
b. Harry will quote from Gandalf the White
c. The will be a meeting of the White Council where the Merlin calls upon everyone to show respect to the new Winter Knight -- and in walks Harry.  The Merlin proceeds to have a heart attack.
d. Molly naturally will have the most heartfelt reaction --  that ship is still in port.  Second place goes to Thomas.  There won't be more than a fist-bump, but we will feel the raw emotion onscreen.

3 )
The Winchester on the cover is probably going to be Harry's major prop - magic bullet FTW.  In addition, he'll have ice upgrades to his armor etc.

4 )
Harry will have to go after an Egyptian or Hindu mythology figure - their "sun power" will be affecting Mab directly, and Mab has been trying to get an upper hand.  Fix will be the summer Emissary, but it will be weird, because Summer would also benefit from the destruction of a deity that is essentially "muscling in" on Titania's territory.

5 )
A key benefit of Mab having Harry as Knight is his access to Soulfire.  As such, using Soulfire will be a key to killing the Big Bad.  Harry will have that problem of X-X=0, using up all his soul.

6 ) Fix and Harry will go toe to toe three times.

a.  In Harry's coming out party, Fix will be there.  They will have a non-lethal "ones-upmanship-contest" which Fix will win easily.
b.  Fix will be Summer's Emissary in whatever task Harry gets.  They will have a mid-lethal, mid-plot encounter with Fix winning using a Knight trick.
c.  There will be an encounter in the finale where Harry beat Fix.

7 )

- We will find out part of why Arctis Tor was attacked (but there will still be missing pieces).
- We will see a piece (i.e. evidence for) of Titania's game in the Mab/BC conflict, namely that Titania is actually working with Mab all along.
- The Fomor are not actually part of the BC, merely pawns in their game.
- There will be more clues about how Outsiders work, but nothing too major in this book.

8 )
- Molly is an Outsiderbane (because her parents are "a good person" and "a wizard" ==  cleric + magic-user).
- Titania fixed Little Chicago, and because of this she will have some hold over Harry.
- In Smf, Mab used the Archive as bait so that the Denarians will break the rules trying to capture her.  This allowed Uriel to give Harry (her future Knight) Soulfire.  Having Soulfire will be a key in Cold Days.

9 )
- Harry's access to Soulfire will be a key to the book.
- First onscreen appearance of Titania.
- There will be a chess match onscreen in the book.
- At least 4 people will be called "bitch".
- Santa will be mentioned and seen (briefly) onscreen.

The Questions:

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
I'm going to be boring and say Cat Sith. He'll help very grudgingly, and maybe gain a modicum of respect for Harry by the end. He will, effectively, be Mister's Fae analogue.

Quote
2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
Of the Chicago Crew? I'm going to say Molly--she has the most direct connection to him now, via Lea. Lea will say something along the lines of, "I'm no longer your teacher" as part of the reveal.

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
Either the "rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated" one, quoting Gandalf ("Now I'm Harry the White"), or something simple like, "I'm baaaaaaaa~aaaack"

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
Murphy, who will assume it's a shapeshifter and deck him.

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?
Thomas, who will be overjoyed, hug him, and then deck him.

Quote
3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
I'm going to go with the rifle on the cover. Either it'll have some intrinsic magic power, Harry will give it some, or it has some kind of historic and occult significance (Butcher has mentioned there's a reason why old west sheriff's stars resemble Harry's pentacle).

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
Going for the long shot and saying it's Mab herself.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
He'll have to choose between his Winter Knight responsibilities and saving one of his friends, and Harry being Harry, he'll choose his friends.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?
First meeting will be very tense, but I predict no actual (or at least, prolonged) fight--because Harry is going to Fix for help.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
Whatever happened to Aurora and Titania will be touched on, since this is a Faerie book. I'll say also the attack on Arctis Tor and its goals.

Quote
8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
I don't follow most of them and don't remotely believe any of the ones that come to mind, so no answer.

Quote
9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
We will find out that Margaret La Fey was a Knight of one of the Courts.

1) Toot-toot will probally be one of the most present sidekick for Harry on the book, in the terms of helping hima round Faery and etc, together with Lea and Sith who should also give Harry some tips on how to act on Winter. But I think that for the blow everything moment, Harry will recruit some of his old friends. I'd say Thomas & Molly and Bob probally.

2)

a. Butters. He might not be the first one to actually see Harry. But I think that there is a big chance that he figured out Harry is not dead. Especially if the info about a new WK reach him. And if Bob return to him or not.
b. Harry will quote Gandalf the White.
c. As an individual, I'd say Molly as a group/entity, The White Council.
d. Molly reaction will be the most touching, althougth if he reveals himself during a JLoC meeting Karrin's reaction should also be good, I think she would go in to shock.

3) The Winchester will probally his new "destruction toy" but I think we gona see that his mother ruby will prove much more usefull on general during CD.

4) Not sure who the immortal gona be, but he will be related to the Black Council and participated attack on Artic Tor. I'm thorned between Thorned (pun intended) and that imortal guru shapshifter from Ukraine

5) How to complete the quest Mab gave him. He will be faced between doing what she asked the easy way, giving her what she asked, and doing it his way, also acomplishing her objective. Ie: Prevent the groofs from bothering her Trolls on the border, easy way kill them, hard way negotiate some kind of deal and end with more obligations..

6) Harry will meet fix in a situation that will be obvius that Fix could kick Harry ass due ot his experience as SK and Harry relutance to hit a friend, but conflict will not happen at that moment, at least fully. Another conflict may rise later on the book or a next one where Harry will kick Fix ass.

7) We will lean the true, or most of it, about the attack on the artic tor and some of the BC objectives.

8)
We will discover that the reason Mab emprisioned Lea is because she was possed by an outsider and that Mab orquestred many of the events on PG to bring Harry to the Artic Tor and hit Lea with his outsiderbanish on the fountain, weaking the entity giving Mab the advantage she needed to heal Lea. But she didn't forsee him using Summer Fire.

We will discover that it was Mab who fixed LC, probally filling up Lea obligation.

9)

Harry will get punched by Murphy.
We will discover what Happened to the Bob/Evil Bob fight.
We will meet the Gruffs
Some new information about the Parasite will be revealed, Harry might realize that is Lash who is back but I think the realization is more likely on the next book.

On another subject, I should get extra credit for not having read the 2 CD sample chapters. I mean I'm on a disavantage here.

This rocks dude.

Are you submitting your own answer sheet?  Please say yes.  (Silly me, I asked before looking at the first response, I was too excited)

I'll be editing this post with my own answers later.

P.S.  I edited in a link to powerups

The Questions:

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
1 ) Hmmmm.  I'm going to predict that with Harry not being there to "serve" Toot took it upon himself to take more responsibility, and thus is a more... robust character.  Now that his liege is back, he's going to be key in helping Harry navigate the perils of Faedom...

I think Elaine will show up in this one still wrapped up in summer plots... I think the Gatekeeper will pop in and out a few times nudging Harry along, or maybe even out-write working with him as a near pier rather than as an enigmatic, distant, string puller who dips his staff in to nudge events occasionally.
Quote
2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
2a.  Elaine (bob might beat her out, but I'm not sure if he counts as a friend since he has no free will)
Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
2b.  I'll have to come up with some appropriate geekery reference, hopefully one that hasn't already been answered.
Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
2c.  Butters (possibly with with a bob counterpoint) will have the coolest witty reaction.  (witty humor being the best humor)
Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?
This is tough, the ones that will be the most emotionally involved are also the ones that might be the most hurt... I'm going to say that the reunion with Molly will be the most touching, but because of Harry's reactions playing off of hers.
Quote
3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
I've got 2 things that Harry will manifest...  Harry's veils will be more effective in the dark, and he will freeze something...  I'm betting there will be inadvertant slipping on ice like the loony toons plan.
1 more thing that I predict, and one that I want to happen but am not necessarily betting on.
Lash will be a player again.  And she will be in Harry's corner, and as such it will be a powerup.
I want Harry to start using soulfire to greater effect creating things.  Substantial things.  embuements that are long lasting and so much more bad ass than they would be without soulfire.  But I'm not holding my breath.
Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
Actually, it's likely there will be at least two discrete big bads... maby more accurately put, at least one big bad and a heavy (with support) for intermediate/BSM conflict.

I'll have to come back to this later...
Quote

What is a WAG theory?

Wild A$$ Guess

And I will be following Serack's example once I have worked out my answers.

The Questions:

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

I really feel like it will be someone we haven't met yet. Probably someone from Winter assigned to Harry as an assistant/guide/spy for Mab

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Butters. Defintely.

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

He has to go with the Gandalf quote. He already did Star Wars in GS

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Murphy. Her punching him right in the balls is gonna be hilarious

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Again, I'm going to say Murphy. After the ball punching, it's gonna be a really tearjerking scene

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

I think it's gonna be a lot of him blending his already powerful armada of attack power. We saw him do it some in Changes, and I think that after being trained up a bit in Mab's boot camp, we are gonna see some pretty spectacular displays of combo magic.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

No idea. And on this one I want to be surprized.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

I'm guessing that a lot of the book has to do with him not wanting to be the Winter Knight. He probably gets an offer, maybe from the baddie he is trying to take down, that would get him out of it.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix will be all smiles and jokes, sorta like "Hey, remember that time I pulled a shotgun on you because I though you might be the Winter Knight. Wasn't that hilarious? Ha?"

Harry will probably enjoy messing with him a bit, but I don't see him taking out Fix unless he absolutely has too.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

Well, I think that a lot of this book is going to be reaching back to the events in PG, when Artics Tor was attacked. I think Mab is going to send Harry after whomever was behind it. And since I'm fairly certain that the BC was behind it, we will get some insights there.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Pass. Sorry, I'm having to think hard enough to come up with my own WAG theories, all listed above. Count those.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.

Molly kisses Harry right on the lips when she sees him.

Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

Toot Toot and Leah

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
Molly via Leah

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
Dropping in on Marcone unannounced.

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

While Marcone isn't a friend, I can't wait to see his reaction.  It'll probably be very matter-of-fact and unemotional.

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?
Thomas (he is family after all).

Quote
3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,26613.0.html)/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
Ice based attacks:  forming spears of ice, tossing snowflake shuriken, freezing air in people's lungs, etc.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
Definitely Drakul.  WOJ says that the Nagloshii was potentially hired by somebody with enough juice to consider it to be cheap muscle, and has been mentioned but not seen onscreen.  Lots of people seem to think that Titania fits the bill except that Titania was onscreen twice in Summer Knight (Harry saw her with his Sight and even mentioned the experience in Turn Coat, and again at the end as a blue nimbus when Titania came to collect Aurora's body).  Drakul also is listed as having the juice to take on Mab directly, and Eb mentioned him in Blood Rites with some detail e.g. cruel and powerful, Kincaid's employer, etc.  Seems odd that somebody would get so much mention but no screen time.  I think Cold Days will finally address that.  Harry will take down Drakul with Demonreach's help.  We know DR will be involved because of the UK blurb.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
Most likely something to do with Demonreach.  My guess is the necessary sacrifice of a few to safeguard the safety of billions (sort of the reverse of Changes where he sought the well-being of one, and to heck with the fallout).

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?
My guess is there'll be no direct confrontation, only veiled threats, sabre rattling, and puffing of chests.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
Proven Guilty was 5 or 6 books ago.  It's about time that all the loose ends from that book were tied up.  Specifically, why Mab brought Molly to Arctis Tor, who attacked it.

Quote
8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
In Small Favor, Nicodemus suggests that crossing over to the NeverNever from the Island was tantamount to putting a bullet in your head.  So, whatever is on the other side must be pretty dangerous.  My WAG has always been that the other side of the island is a prison in the NeverNever.  Demonreach is the Prison Guard.  In a WOJ about the island, Jim makes a weird non-sequiter-like comment about how Wardens were once singular, e.g. it was a title given to somebody.  Eb mentions in his journal in Turn Coat how Harry can be trusted with the "mantle" associated with the island.  I think Harry signed on for the job of "Warden" of the NeverNever prison when he bonded with Demonreach.  It is the Mantle of "The Warden" that Harry has now assumed.

Quote
9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
Eb has made two mentions of the original Merlin, the last one being after the battle in Changes.  My question is, why would Jim devote so much mention to the original Merlin in the aftermath of the battle?  Seems like a significant clue or foreshadowing to me.  My guess is that we'll find out more about the original Merlin or there'll be a link into the story somehow.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Sith, with significant contributions by Fix and Ebenezar.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

Quote
a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Probably Molly, Butters or Ebenezar.

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

The Princess Bride, Monty Python or Lord of the Rings references, depending on who he's talking to and whether he can get white clothing for the occasion.

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

The White Council.

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Ebenezar, Thomas, Michael, Molly or Murphy. I'm leaning towards Ebenezar, he probably took Harry's death pretty damn hard.

Quote
3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,26613.0.html)/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

He'll probably get a lot of use out of sucking the heat out of an enemy and then using that heat to fuel a fire spell to take down another enemy.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Someone new, possibly related to the Fomor. Or Darkhallowed up Cowl.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

To use the Demonreach leyline and assure victory or to struggle on without it.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

They will be very awkward initially, but eventually reconcile (Fix may or may not be mortally wounded by this time). And if he comes after Harry, he will bring at least Tiny along.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

They will be revealed as trying to bring back the Outsiders.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Harry will get a changeling kid.

Lash will start drastically speeding up the rate Harry learns magic.

I think the Sith dude is promising.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
I'm placing my bets on the Carpenters. Either Molly or Michael.

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
"The rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
"I come back to you now at the turn of the tide." (or something else that's Gandalf-ey)

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
Well, I'm pretty sure that Murphy/Thomas will kick his ass.
I'm sort of curious about Mort's reaction ("he... he was dead, I swear!"). And Kincaid's, which probably won't be in this book.

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?
Mouse. ;D Or Murph.

Well, he's definitely going to be improving his ice magic...

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
It'll be somebody new. He'll take them down like everyone else; sheer wit and determination, a ton of luck, and a little help from his friends.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Fix'll survive. But their relationship will not be pleasant any longer. They'll probably fight at some point.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot? I think Elaine is due back about now.  If it isn't her, I predict Sith and Fix will be trading off in the role.  (Sith will step into Mouse's old role in combat and will hate every moment of it)

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?  Maybe Butters and Bob?  Harry will get to have multiple reveal moments.
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"? Princess Bride/LoTR are both manditory, probably Star Wars too; maybe a Frosty the Snowman "Happy Birthday"
c. Who will have the coolest reaction? Ebenezar (possibly not in CD); he will have found out some other way that Harry is back before Harry can surprise him.  "Aye, Hoss.  I didn't figure you'd stay out of the picture for long.  Ain't like you to leave before a job is finished."
d. Who will have the most touching reaction? Murphy; I think she will cry a little bit and then physically assault Harry, winter knight or not (you didn't say what kind of touching ;D )

Harry will learn what is on the NN side of Demonreach (whether to take advantage of its power or not is probably one of the Choices that Harry will have to make); otherwise, Harry will beef up on his Winter Knight abilities for new combat maneuvers.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down? I predict CD to be a big chase book where Harry has to track down a Fomor with high enough rank and power to pose a threat to Demonreach under the right circumstances; whoever the big bad is, he will drop a few big hints about the actions and/or motivations of the Circle/Black Council.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?  Harry will have to decide whether or not the power behind Demonreach should be saved or not and if he can get around Mab's orders.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?  Prediction 1:  Fix will be at Mab's party along with a Gruff or two.  Their relationship will be tense at first then get closer to what it was before.  Prediction 2:  If Fix survives CD, he will remain Summer Knight until at least the BAT.  Otherwise, Elaine will be promoted to the position because of a background deal between two of the faerie queens.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?  The Fomor are knowing members of the BC while the Red Court was used by the BC just as much as the White Council.  We will get a clear idea about what happened and perhaps why in the assault on Arctis Tor in PG.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
Erlking gave the BC the wolf belts to give to the FBI agents in Fool Moon.
Murphy's faith will start to be restored in CD to where she's ready to take up Fidelacchius in Book 15.
Lash will be the parasite from GS and will be severely limited in what she can do, at least for now.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
Harry will want to visit Bob for a sounding board on what to do about the threat to Demonreach, and Sith will tell Harry the story about why Bob gets nervous around Winter.

1. I think that Toot Toot will be Harry's main sidekick, partly due to his recent elevation to full General, partly due to Harry's trust in him. Especially since Harry has now taken full responsibility as Winter Knight.  I think Toot Toot will have grown even further, possibly enough to fight at Harry's side as a true companion.

2a. Molly as Lea will probably either give it away as not being needed to teach Molly anymore, or by dealing with him extensively in Winter.

2b. Definitely Gandalf. something along the lines of "I come back to you now at the turn of the tide"

2c. Kincaid, possibly not in CD. He'll be impressed at Harry's resilience, and perhaps affronted that he (Kincaid) wasn't thorough enough.

2d.Molly. when she sees him for the first time, She'll freeze for a couple of seconds, then tackle him with a hug, silent tears falling.

3.  Lash will be back, and fully backing Harry. Imagine the Winter knight with Soulfire, and an expert advisor living in his head.  We may even see a bit of jealousy for Harry's attentions, as before the psychic bullet Lash seemed to show a great deal of affection for Harry.

4.I think there has been a coup of some kind in Winter, with Mortal forces at the heart of it, brought in by the BC.  Mab will need to have her Knight to be able to deal with it.  We may even see Harry and Mab fighting shoulder to shoulder.

5.Harry will be forced to choose between being callous and ruthless, and doing the right thing almost constantly.  He is Winter now, and they're all about cold and calculating.

6.Fix will be nervous, pretty much crap his pants in the first minute of running into Harry again.  but then he'll collect himself and stand firm.  I don't think there will be an outright confrontation, just an understanding between them, reached after a tense reunion where both have fingers on the trigger.

7.The BC is behind the Winter coup, and will be revealed as the forerunners for the return of the Outsiders.   Destroying all meaningful resistance as a prelude to the Gates being forced open.

8.Don't know too many of the WAGs, mostly my own.

9.Lash, Molly and Murph will all be competing for Harry.  Drama ensues, and Harry defuses the tension in true Dresden fashion.  Humor and geeky quotes.

sorry about the spelling, on xbox, will fix later

The Questions
Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help? I'm going with new guy(cat) because it is always the new side kick who gets the focus or cause he/she/it is a ca loosely speaking

Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot? lea, toot and the guard.

At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
lea, well depending on how you define friend

What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
"I got better" to the first person who says but you died/your dead

Who will have the coolest reaction?
lea she will act like she knew along and she may have

Who will have the most touching reaction?
it will be to close to call but some will be:
molly will cry openly no matter whose in the room and will almost if not outright kock him over hugging him he will make a joke needing his ribs or to breath then say he missed her too

murphy after he makes her belive it really is him, (which will not be easy) and after he calms her down she will end kissing him. harry will be harry and try to stop it form going any where. murphy will yell at him then ether kick him out or leave

In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
he will mostly learn about the physical perks(not all the fae women the other ones) and he'll mostly be using them to not become someone's snack.

Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down? some minor fae no clue about how yet

Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes? something about mercy

As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be? a talk and maybe a small which will end in a draw/harry losing. Will Fix survive?yes

Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book? will answer later.

There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
must look around

harry will be hit on by at least 3 fae woman.(not counting mab she doesn't need to)

1. Some as of yet unnamed squire/page of the WK it will be his fairy assistant that comes with the office.

2 A) Mouse will be the first to notice his return but this may not be known as he can't speak his first contact will be with Molly.
  B) a Babylon 5 quote Molly: "I thought you were dead?" Harry: "I was, I'm better now."
  C) I originally read coolest as in awesome and thought Molly pouncing on him and planting one(kiss) on him sounded "cool". However I may had missunderstood and now I believe that coolest is as in cold reaction, for that I bet Daniel carpenter will be the most upset with Harry, one for not passing a sword to him or another and two for messin up his sister.
  D) Murphy kick him around some then kiss him and drop the L word.

3. His blasting rod magic will be inverted to suck heat out and be a freeze ray as he did before. Still a heat ray just the absence of it.

4. I nominate Boreas the old Greek god of the north wind and winter, a challenger to Mabs sphere of influence.

5. The conflict will ultimately be the choice between Molly or Murphy which symbolize the mortal and mystical sides of his dual existance. He will find a way to postpone the choice.

6. He will meet Fix at Mac's and warn him that when its time to throw down he'll call him first to get his affairs in order. Fix will pick a fight anyway, Harry will beat him but not kill him, adn let him know his offer stands, fix will agree.

7. Harry will find that Boreas or his "big bad" is on the BC and he is the one that sent the Athame to Lea and the wintercourt to disrupt it.

8. That Lash and Lasciel are aware of eachother and Harr is the battleground.

9. Harry will get the red gem back and it will give him some secret that his mom stored away in it, beyond the secret of all the ways/gates.

1) My prediction is that Butters is the main companion, mostly due to the fact that I think Harry will need access to Bob, but his position as Winter Knight will cause complications should he actually re-take possession of Bob. Bob will be needed to educate Harry about the powers of the Winter Knight, the range of responsibilities and hierarchy of allegiances, and for a fair bit of comic relief between Harry, Butters and Bob.

2)
A) Butters will be first since Harry will need immediate use of Bob once he ventures out from Arctis Tor.
B) Harry will arrive in time to save Butters from a Fomor.  He will then make a bad pun about “frozen fish sticks”.
C) Murphy will have the best reaction. Initially, she’ll shoot at him since she will believe him to be a shape-shifting imposter. After she realizes that he’s real, she’ll kick him in the groin for making her think he was dead.
D) Molly will have the most touching reaction since she’ll feel the weight of having to fill his shoes and the weight of having Lea as her teacher lift off her shoulders. There will be sobbing a-plenty all the way around.

3) His cool (no pun intended) new power will be the ability to flash-freeze opponents in place. He will then, using his “how can I combine magic, with technology, with cool sci-fi movie references?” style of operating, combine this ability with shooting the frozen opponents with a gun, thus shattering them like the T1000 in Terminator 2 where Arnold shot him after being doused in liquid nitrogen.

4) The enemy Mab sends him after will be: Bob. Mab still harbors her grudge toward Bob and dispatches Harry to hunt him down and return him. Harry will spend a great deal of time finding wording loopholes to explain why he has not yet completed the task, before realizing that he can hunt down Evil Bob and return him to Mab for apparently full credit, and can preserve “his” Bob at the same time. Instead of the Normandy re-creation we saw previously, we’ll see a re-creation of Hitler’s bunker as the Winter Knight storms Evil Bob’s sanctum.  Evil Bob, will, however, have aligned with the Black Council and Harry will need to battle, freeze, and shatter several Fomor agents to get to Evil Bob – whereupon he will use the really sneaky trick of making Evil Bob try to escape in an animal – like Bob does with Mister, only to have Harry freeze it solid, locking him inside for transport to Mab.

5) Harry’s choice will be whether to turn Bob over to Mab as per his orders, or if he should try to defy Mab right out of the gate.  The choice will be to spare Bob, and then the “give her Evil Bob” thought arises.

6) They will meet at Harry’s coming out party at Arctis Tor shortly after the intro chapters we saw in Ghost Story. The interactions from Harry’s end will be “well, isn’t this awkward?” and will be extremely stiff and formal from Fix’s end, to make sure everything is kept strictly in accordance with protocol, lest something happen. These instructions for Fix will come from Lily and will be painful for Harry to figure out, but he will understand given his new position relative to Fix and Lily.

7) Harry will learn about the timing of the Black Council’s plans – i.e., why now? But he will still be in the dark about what the actual plans are or what the goals are.

8) My 3 WAG Theories:
A) Lash is alive and well in Harry’s head, and is just waiting for Harry to contact her directly before she can manifest herself to him – just like the first time she had to wait until he used Hellfire.
B) Lara is part of the Black Council – Harry becomes more sure of this, but not 100%, when he learns how she was able to get a carrier group to help out in the aftermath of Chitzen Itza.
C) Lea is working to replace Mab as Winter Queen and will start trying to enlist Harry now that he’s the Winter Knight to help her toward that end.

9) My predictions about things that will be revealed in Cold Days:
A) Harry, as the Winter Knight, cannot enter Michael’s house unless specifically invited by Michael. The guardian angels will react to his Knighthood negatively.
B) Harry has to learn how to clean his new place all over again since the brownies who cleaned his old apartment were provided by Lily. As the Winter Knight, agents of Summer will not be able to work on his place.
C) Luccio will be killed off-screen by the Black Council to prevent her from remembering who altered her mind to seduce Harry and thus remove his protection from Lara and the White Court.
D) Justine is pregnant.

1) Throwing in with the Toot crowd (though Harry's going to need some money if he's to pay the delivery guy).

2a) I'm guessing it'll be multiple people, more or less at once, at the "birthday party". Seems likely to me that all signatories of the Accords might be invited to have a delegation at such a shindig, so anyone there'll get the reveal all at once. This could include Fix, Lily, Ramirez, Luccio, Steed, Thomas, Marcone (and friends), and potentially one of the Senior Council (with Ebenezar, Listens to Wind, and Rashid being the coolest options).

2b) I'm thinking "mostly dead" or "got better" references are most fitting, but I think that, given the rushed nature of the Demonreach situation, he's likely going to keep not being able to pull something fun off (and be frustrated by this).

2c) Marcone. Dude's ice.

2d) Michael. He's been largely out of our sight lately, but there's no way Harry doesn't check in with Maggie to some extent or another, and Harry's exploits (and their results) in the last few books have to have been having an effect on the man. I mean, he's watched his daughter go nuts, his friend tear himself to pieces, the world take several steps towards hell, and now, suddenly, Harry's back... and in the clutches of evil. Don't tell me that encounter won't be wrenching.

3) I'm not the first to say it, but the gun from the cover. Magic plus rifle equals plus ten to badass.

4) It seems like one heck of a coincidence for Demonreach to be 24 hours from exploding right when Harry comes back, so it seems likely that that's someone's effort to disrupt his power base because holy crap he's back and scary as hell. It would have to be someone who would feel threatened by Harry coming back, would know about Demonreach, and would have the chops to pull off such a disruption, so I'm going to guess the Black Council is the big bad of the book. (I honestly don't see the immortal-killing being as important as the Demonreach situation. I don't think it'll be anyone we really know all that well.)

5) Could be that Mab's target is very hard to kill without offing some innocents as well. (Maybe an innocent host for the immortal or some such?)

6) They'll basically end up in a Harry-Marcone sort of relationship. ("We're cool, and we can work together, but both of us know we're going to end up fighting at some point, and we're both going to be prepared.")

7) I'm thinking we won't learn huge amounts, but we might hit upon one of their agents and get a hint at their motivations and goals.

8) Lash is the parasite, Uriel didn't actually straight give Harry Soulfire, Murphy's going to take up a Sword.

9) Harry ends up setting up shop on Demonreach and working out a few not-so-deadly Ways to and from Chicago. One of the first things he builds is a pizza oven.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Fix who will teach Harry about Faerie and Knighting and will be a way for Harry to demonstrate his determination to be independent of Mab.  Other significant figures will be Bob, Toot Toot, and Maeve.

Quote
2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Murphy because he will go to her first about how to get involved again in Chicago.

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

Turns out I was mostly dead instead of all dead. (Princess Bride if for some reason the reference doesn't click)

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Kincaid.  Who will be in Murphy's company when Dresden comes to visit.

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Thomas.  The way that Harry and he have problems opening up to each other means this is going to be spectacularly awkward but heartfelt.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

Making things out of ice.  Instant focus items that not quite as good as a dedicated blasting rod, or staff, or shield bracelet, can be called up at any time and used in a pinch.  Also finding new ways to mix fire and ice.  If you are familiar with Chrono Trigger, think the antipode dual skill for the destructive effect.  On the constructive side, working out an approximation of icy hot for himself.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Unnamed Black Court elder in league with the Black Council.  Immortal in this case only refers to the potential to live forever if their life is not ended by an outside agent.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

This book is going to be about Mab exploiting a rift in the Black Council to dish out some vengeance.  The choice is going to be which faction Harry decides to help in the end.  With Marva and Cowl both seeking help, Harry needs to decide which Devil he leaves standing and which he kills.  He sides with Cowl.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Strained at first meeting until Harry assures Fix that if they ever come in to conflict Harry first will warn Fix that that's how its got to be.  With Maeve and Lily working deals in the past, I see no reason for the Summer Knight and Winter Knight not to pal about when not directly in conflict.  See prediction 1 of Fix as my choice of main supporting character.  Fix will survive but will be wounded, and the implication will be that Titania will see this injury as a reason to start thinking about replacing Fix.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

See prediction 5 about different factions in the Black Council at odds.  We are going to learn a little more about what went down at Arctis Tor in Proven Guilty and get a little more about why both Marva and Cowl were in Dead Beat working different angles.

Odin is Black Council - evidence only
The Eebs survived - confirmed

Harry is going to get a look at the Athame, decide it is something important, and then totally fail to follow through on it... just like he failed to follow through on the importance of Demonreach

The Questions:

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

I think his side kick will be Gaard, after Harry goes back to Odin for help on how to kill an immortal. Molly and Thomas will also play significantly into the plot, as they track down Harry together after hearing he’s alive from Fix, and then proceed to kick his a**.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

I think Marcone finds out first, but who knows if he’ll share it with everyone else. I say he qualifies as a friend since he has a working relationship with Harry.
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

I think the reunion will be spoiled initially by Harry running for his life from something, running into a comrade, and then dragging them into his mess and a dangerous situation.

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Mister of course. He’s too cool to care. He’ll acknowledge he’s back, and go back to whatever it is cats do.
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Mouse. Never interfere between a man and his dog! He’ll get tackled to the floor probably, just because its another opportunity for Harry to get knocked around  :)

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

Seeing how he used that AK-47 in self defense, I say he starts slinging Hail or icicles at bullet speed.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

The “immortal” he’s set to kill will be none other than Mab’s hubby, St. Nick. He enabled  the attack on Arctis Tor after squabbling with his wife about dinner always being served cold!

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
Whopper or Double Whopper

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix learned from his last attempt to intimidate Harry. He’ll be all smiles and cooperate with him, but feed him false information that sends Harry into a trap. Harry will end up forgiving Fix after he realized Puts him in his place and takes the long-term perspective.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

We’ll learn why Arctis Tor was attacked and why Mab permitted it and captured Molly.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

No clue

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
I think Bob will be at the birthday celebration as Mab’s prisoner. We last left him in the NN, and we all know she’s the reason he keeps to his skull… Now we finally will know why!

1. Cait Sith and Molly alternating.

2a. My gut says Toot will be first, because Harry needs to find Molly as soon as he hits town to keep her off the chopping block.
2b. Princess Bride "Mostly Dead", or LOTR Gandalf are strong picks, but I'm thinking Python "Just a fleshwound".
2c. Murphy, with Molly as a close 2nd.
2d. When Harry finally comes to the Carpenters to see Maggie and Mouse.

3. The gun, we know it's going to be in the book, there's got to be something more to it.

4. My money's on Cowl as the big bad, Harry will finally get the upper hand on him when Lash makes her presence known.

5. It's probably going to have something to do with Demonreach or Elaine, I've got no clue really.

6. Fix will be startled, mentally soil himself, and tread carefully around Harry...Harry will offer a non-aggression pact for the meeting while both of them deal with their respective Queen's geass when trying to talk to one another.

7. It will be revealed that the BC orchestrated the destruction of the Red Court and the rise of the Fomor to advance their agenda to bring the Old Ones back.

8. WAG1: Warden Chandler is Black Council, possibly Cowl. WAG2: Murphy will walk in on the Harry/Molly reunion and hilarity will ensue. WAG3: Harry will have an "interesting" conversation with Lara. (Considering she worked out that Harry is no longer under the protection of Susan's Love, something is definitely going to come of it)

9. Thomas will lose his cool when he sees Harry, and when asked to prove who he is Harry will make some comment about "repeat as necessary" much to Justine's amusement and his brother's discomfort.

1) I would love to see Lea forced to tag along. It would up the ante as to the "heavy" they had to face and how much Power would be required to take him/her/it down.

2a) I'm going long-odds and saying Ramirez. Will be the Emissary from the White Council at Mab's party.
2b) "I was only mostly dead, not all dead. There's a difference."
2c) Butters: "Polka really DOESN'T die!!!"
2d) Maggie. I feel like the Carpenters are going to have told her all about her father, and when she sees him, it'll be a true "first" meeting.

3) The rifle on the cover, which will be a tribute to Sir Soandso (forgot his name) from GS and will be his new weapon against spiritual entities. It would come in handy against battling the souls Harry will encounter when Mab orders Harry to assassinate

4) Uriel. Mab is furious that he reminded Harry of his free will and that he doesn't have to compromise his morals, and wishes to exact her revenge.

5) Obviously Harry will not assassinate Uriel and will choose to defy Mab, so the majority of the book will be spent finding a loophole while keeping up appearances.

6) the encounter with Fix will be anticlimactic. They'll acknowledge each other, but Harry will have no reason to mix with Summer forces and thusly will largely be avoided.

7) We will find out who was responsible for the security breach at Arcangel.

8) We will find out what exists on the NeverNever side of Demonreach.

9) Lash will make a limited appearance.

Hey everyone new to the boards and only started reading the books at the end of last year. With that in mind I'm sure I'll be way off with predictions - seeing how most of what is in my thinking has been probably debunked already - but here goes.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Well probably a new character who hasn't been introduced yet seeing how Changes seemed to imply he can't really return to his old life, and maybe someone who was also friendly with his mum. This might help in that she possesses knowledge or a weapon/artifact of his mothers. Regarding who will also have a significant contribution to the plot, Mab of course, Demonreach and a wild stab in the dark.... Elaine.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

a. I'll go for Molly to find out first seeing how Lea is a big part of her life now.
b. Maybe Sherlock Holmes seeing how he died and came back to life. Elementary my dear Murph.
c. Bob the skull will be pretty funny so I'll plump for that. Hey you sound like James Marsters again boss.
d. One would think automatically Murph or Molly but just for the hell of it I'm going to go for Billy Borden or Lea.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

Seeing how Mab is Queen of Air and Darkness maybe some sort of blinding spell plunging rooms into darkness etc. And maybe Icefire to go with soul and formerly hellfire along with that rifle on the cover too.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Maybe someone who hasn't featured yet who is a Black Council member or a big hitter we know already like Donar Vadderung.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Gotta be friends versus Winter Knight obligations.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much guaranteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix will survive alright but if it comes to fisticuffs a stalemate will ensue seeing as Harry is new at being a Knight and Fix isn't.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

Arctis Tor and the motivations of its attack seems most likely. We'll probably learn more of someone previously not implicated in Black Council affairs, maybe Ancient Mai.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days

I'll just let my mind go nuts for this. Margaret LeFay had Cassandra's Tears which is why she did so many things to influence Harry's future. Elaine will take up one of the Knights swords. Molly has taken up a coin of the Blackened Denarius.

I'm bound to be way off with all this but it's great to just muck about guessing - the more unlikely the better. Anyway it will be good reading others ideas too.

Lilly, the summer Lady, Harry will prove to MAb that she is more vaulable alive and under control then Dead.

Namely letting Lilly live.

In reply to you thecuriousfan: Icefire does not compute.  I agree Icefire seems like it couldn't exist, maybe Coldfire could, but hey it's Harry Dresden anything is possible. And it doesn't need to be completely literal, It could refer to a spell that effected either him or his opponents internally (like shielding him from emotions for instance).

1/
Summer and Winter must always be in balance, so if Harry is in motion then Fix must be as well. I suspect this will be much like that where Fix and Harry are cats paws working together. As a bit of a throw, I fully expect Maive will be a major ally, much like Lara was in Blood Rites.

2/
a, Fix. Barely. I'm betting his apprentice will also be at the party as Lea's guest. Simply so that Lea can mindf-- her a little bit more.
b, show up with a glowing aura of soulfire as a means of flexing his muscle/first impression.
c, Bianca, who we'll find out has been kept alive this whole time as punishment (how cool would that be?)
d, Maggie would be the easy choice, but I somehow think Mort will be. It just seems so unlikely, the little bald man loses it as Harry validifies his abilities to talk to the dead as more than a simply parlor trick.

3/
He's able to work with Frost spells much better, which would be obvious. Maybe a Frostfire spell that melts then cools an object.

4/
It's gotta be Athame related. I'm guessing Mavra, who is now a pretty big bad with the Word of Kemmler. In terms of taking her down? It's gotta be harsh, bitter and unfeeling. I'm guessing he freezes her blood and watches her starve to death.

5/
His choice is going to be breaking the Wizarding law by killing another human. Sure, he gets diplomatic immunity, but it tests his resolve of how far he'll go.

6/
Fix is pretty selfless, much like Dresden was. I see him sacrificing himself in the end to defeat the big bad.

7/
Bouncil is actually from another time, universe, or reality that is attempting to destablize ours to make it easier to take over.

8/
We'll learn that Mavra isn't really Black Council. That she is actually at war with them as well. She uses the Kemmler book to wage war with them on an evil scale that Harry never would have been capable, evil versus evil with limitless potential.

9/
Mab inherits Mister, who is bent to the other's will.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
Toot.  He will be the only member of the Fae that isn’t out to stab Harry in the back.  And he will give away knowledge about the Fae that helps Harry escape from Mab’s clutches without being aware of the importance of the knowledge.

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

 a.  Toot.  Harry meets him at the Winter party.
b.  He starts moaning about “brains” after someone makes a joke about the “living dead.”
c.  Warden Rodriguez.
d.  Mouse.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

A combination of “Arctis” and his other tools.  Lots of ways to combine “fire” and “ice” in the form of water magic, which we haven’t seen much of yet, but will be useful when dealing with the Formor.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

It has to be someone who has been competing with Mab for power . . . someone immortal . . . and we have not seen the Denarians in the past few books, so my guess is that he has his final show down with them.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Harry realizes that he can no longer live in Chicago itself, but rather must live on the island of Demonreach.  It is too dangerous to live in the city.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

I don’t think will be as big an encounter as what happened in “Small Favor.”  Been there, done that.  There will be some tension between them at the “rebirth” party, and Fix will say that if it comes down to a battle, he will try his best to kill Harry.  Harry will respond that yes, you will “try” but will not succeed.  Something like that.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

The motivation is control of the Nevernever.  Which is why there will be some revelation that members of the Fae are aligned with the Black Council.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Sorry, I haven’t paid any attention to what those might be.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
Harry finds new keepers for the swords of faith.  One of them is Daniel.  The other is his brother.  Not Murphy, because she still has issues.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

I feel this is going to be a Fairy based book, Harry is pretty smart. There will be no main sidekick, Harry will mistrust everyone. Mab will play the most significant contribution to the plot, we will probably see a great of interaction between them.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Mortimer

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

I actually hope he doesn't snark, and just smiles then walks back through to the Never Never after helping his friends out discretely.

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Rodriguez, he will be there and likely make a pop culture reference on Harrys behalf

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Eb, he just got his grand kid back from the presumed dead.

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

Hes going to rely on knowledge. Before, he traded for personal gain, now he trades for Winters gain, there is no or not as much cost to the knowledge. He will actually find out useful information before finding himself in quicksand without a rope.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

I havent really thought about this, so much so the blurb kind of caught me off guard. I think it will be a demon of significant influence. Perhaps not one of significant power but their death will be a strategic blow to demonkind.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

To kill with Magic. As I understand it, as an agent of Winter he is now longer bound by the Laws of Magic.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Limited, I think this may get brushed over for this book considering everything else that goes on. I think the Fix/Harry relationship will devolve to counterparts as it should be. Neither one knowing what the others real agenda might be. Previously, Harry was essentially a neutral party to Fix and Lily, no longer.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

I would not be surprised if we did not learn of all the major players through Mab. The knowledge will be offered the low price of killing this ''one immortal''.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Dont follow any

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

I hope there will be a scene involving a public gathering of the White Council where Harry personally confronts the Merlin, hopefully by shooting him with a gun. He may use an empty chamber, just to illustrate a point regarding any thoughts the Merlin might be having regarding Mollys fate.

The event if it does happen will be an attempt to make it appear as though Harry has severed all ties with the Council in favour of Winter. Probably under advice from Mab in order to allow for Black Council members within the Council to make a mistake believing Harry is no longer an issue.

First post here on forum... Hi everyone!  ;)

1/ Cait Sith, Leah, Bob and Molly

2/ in Chicago you say - so ...
a - Bob (if ghost counts), if you ask only about people, then Butters
b - Princess Bride "Mostly Dead" like or LOTR Gandalf like quote
c - Thomas
d - Molly

3/ I'll go for the rifle as shown on book cover

4/ a new black council character which do not directly appear (but maybe was mentioned) in previous books

5/ Harry will fight internally about how much "winter power" he can absorb/get, how much he like to be involved in feerie court matters. A big choice will be if he like to stay a Winter Knight (and be loyal to Mab, with all new power and all new good things this can bring him) or he decide to go on his own path with unknown consequences to him a and to those he loves.

6/ Harry and Fix will be opponents (at least in this book). They both will try to play fair, but it would not be easy.  Fix will survive, but their relationship will be far from friendly (at least for some time).

7/ We learn more about attack at Artics Tor, and why Mab is near to mad in last books.

8/ first, the idea that Leah is plotting against the Mab, and trying to be a new Winter Queen, and that he will try to involve Harry into this - promising him release from winter knighthood if he help her
and second, Black Council will try to recruit/blackmail someone from Harry close friends for copperation, for spying on Harry and Grey Council.

9/ We learn more about Harry's powers with regards to outsiders. At least one more member of Black Council (beside Cowl) will be revealed. At least one more member of Grey Council (beside Odin) will be revealed. A new sword wielder (Fidellachius) will be revealed. And  I do not think that we will see Lash in this book.

thanks,
Slavo.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Main: Cait Sith and he will be no help at all. Side: Lash & Molly.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.
a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Murphy after soulgazing she will deck him. Then Molly will curse at him. Then Mouse will flatten him. Lastly Charity will punch him. Lash will comment on his choice of women. I officially coin the term punchhug.

Murphy is first since she is the easiest to find and Thomas comes once Murphy calls him.

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

Mab will open a portal for him, it will lead to his grave ..which has been filled with earth.

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Molly, she will be frickin angry and go full nightmare porn on the presumed Harry illusion.
oor
Harry - Hey Mac
Mac - grunts & gets Harry a free beer

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Mouse, Harry will need a towel.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

His primary powerup will be using his future-sight to sense bullets, he will be pretty hard to assassinate.
Fire&Ice grenades, a miniature sun surrounded by an equally cold ice shell, upon impact interesting things happen.
Harry will tell Caith Sith to do stuff. Sith will do it badly. After a while Harry gets foxy enough to outfox the malk ..sometimes.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Thorned Namshiel. He will use the coin as soulfire battery.
Lasciels revenge will be a secondary plotline.
Several Formor clashes but no definite victory.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Doing what Mab says no matter the cost.
Or between doing what Mab says and what she wants.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix will be very far away. Harry will wave at him. They might talk a bit by shouting over the distance.
Or they will fight by very artfully missing each other, hard on the terrain though.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

How Mab was wounded. Who was on the attack on Arctis Tor. A Cowl - Formor connection.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
Cowl is Justin.
Kemmler is alive.
Mab repaired little Chicago.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
Mab is/was pregnant.
The white god is the sun.
Molly makes full Council in this book.
Harry visits Susans grave.
Title: Re: Cold Days Predict-a-thon. [All the latest Spoilers permitted]
Post by: SAZ on September 19, 2012, 02:55:33 PM
Hey – thanks for this tread! Here are my predictions.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book. Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help? Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Main sidekick – Eb, Harry has to kill an immortal and Eb is the heaviest hitter Harry is close to. Cat Sith will act much like Bob did in early books being a source of information.

As Changes, GS and CD are an internal trilogy, Harry will have to interact with those he hurt the most. Karen, Molly and Thomas in order to close up the in trilogy story lines.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead? - Bob, because he is too connected, he knows first.

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"? – Several movie references like suggested by others

c. Who will have the coolest reaction? – If we see him in this book, Marcone might have a good line or two kind of like “… of course Harry is back, it would be too good to be true if he stayed dead”

d. Who will have the most touching reaction? – Thomas. Changes and GS were too horrible for Molly for her to have a gushy touching reaction the first time she sees Harry. Karen was going down a hard path in GS, see more about her in the special credit section below.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom. Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

As winter knight, he will have the ability to quickly find ways that lead to areas controlled by winter making for handy escapes.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about. In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific. Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Mab will send Harry after HHWB or perhaps some other lower level walker/outsider to test his outsider bane powers which I believe is the main reason Mab has wanted Harry as winter knight.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book. A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different. What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

His most critical choice will be three – how he interacts with Karen, Molly and Thomas. All three he loves in different ways, all three have been important comrades and foxhole buddies, and to lose any one of them because of his prior choice to kill himself would tear a big hole in Harry’s soul.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix. What will their interactions be? Will Fix survive?

Mab knows the BAT is coming; any summer/winter conflict beyond what is necessary to maintain a reasonable balance is a waste of time. Still it is possible Fix will be sent after Harry. If there is a fight, Harry will be hard pressed to defend himself as Fix is more experienced at the knighthood thing. Harry will try to not kill Fix and try to subdue him instead. It will take some wizard like trick/power to enable Harry to survive.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council"). What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

Harry will find out that there is not one collective set of bad guys responsible for all the weirdness in the last thirteen books. We will learn the most about Cowl and who he works for/with. We might learn if Cowl’s group is using outsiders as a tool to control/change the world, or if they want to destroy the world.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards. Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

We will learn that Cowl is Simon.

We will learn that there has been time travel in prior books, but Harry will not time travel in CD.

Harry will insult several people… or is that too general  ;)

At the party Harry and Cat Sith are on their way to at the end of Ch 2 - Mab will command Harry to kill some random mortal who got messed up with the Fea to test his loyalty and gauge how cold he has become.

Toward the end of CD, Lash will comeback enough to let Harry know she is still around, but with limits. I can see an end of book conversation between Harry and Lash as a nice lead up and teaser to book 15.

We will see more and learn more about the talking spiders.

Lastly the Ship named Karen will either hit and iceberg named Harry and sink. Or they will pick up where they were at the end of Changes. It is likely the moment of truth for their relationship. JB will give the Harry Karren romance a final thumbs up or down.

1) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Sith, Bob, Lash, and Molly.

2) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.
a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Murphy will throw him across the room. Thomas will punch him. Butters will scream “Polka will never die”
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

He will say," I am Gandalf the White. And I come back to you now - at the turn of the tide.”

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Michael he will thank god then cry like a big teddy bear

3) in nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

I can’t help but notice the Winchester in his hand. One can only assume it is enchanted to do some bad things that he points it at. He will move to using other elements than fire to fight.

4) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

I am thinking some of the Fomor will be involved and maybe Mavra.

5) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

I am thinking it will be what to do about his daughter. I think there are enough things that could have figured out that he has a kid by now.

6) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix will survive as long as he remembers who the real badass Knight is. I think there reactions will center on that point.
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

how/why  the black council got mab to move her forces so they could attack Arctis Tor.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Butters gets a girlfriend.
Molly has lost her mind.
Mab is having Harrys baby.

The Questions:

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Oh this is a good one... I'm going to go with the one companion everyone always forgets about... Mouse.

As for other characters who will have a significant contribution:

1. Molly - She is Harry's apprentice, his responsibility, Wizard or not Harry won't leave her out to die under the Doom of Damocles.
2. Lea - Harry is the Winter Knight now, his Godmother will likely play a more significant role than normal.

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

a. Molly - He has to go to Molly. His death hurt her so much it radically damaged her character. She is under a death sentence and is being hunted by the Wardens. Harry has to go to her.

b. This will depend on who he reappears to of course. A lot of people are quoting a Ghandalf the White quote and that is very possible... However I will be very disappointed if Jim neglects his comic book references if he doesn't make a Jean Grey or Captain America comment about his revival.

c. Coolest... Probably Murph. She's going to probably make some kind of comment that SHE plans on killing him.

d. Most touching... Michael Carpenter... Or alternatively Harry's child. I expect to see Michael hug Harry tightly and I expect him to cry.

I am probably very wrong here, and if I am, oops... BUT... Jim seems to really like physics in his magic. He really is a fan of the laws of thermodynamics. So what I'd love to see the Winter Knight do is... Exploding ice. Mix ice with Harry's personal flare for fire. IE a spiky ice ball that, at the center, super heats, which can cause the ice to explode (no joke, you can make water explode in a microwave) so an ice shrapnel grenade just seems freaking awesome to me.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Odin. It was recently revealed that Odin is the head of everyone's favorite mystical security firm. I would love to see Harry have to tangle with the All Father.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

I think that, in order to kill the "Immortal" in the blurb, he will have to kill an innocent. As in there is no way to kill the "Immortal" without killing the innocent. I just don't think Harry will do it, but he is under his geas to Winter... It will be a no win situation.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

I don't see them coming to blows. I see it being kind of what was done before. When they were talking "as friends" it will be as friends, when they are talking "as knights" it will be very (heh) cold and Fix will be very matter of fact. If Harry and him meet in the field, and they are on opposing sides, Fix will tell Harry plainly that he will kill him.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

I'm going to go with Cowl. Now that Harry has "died" and he has "sold himself" to Winter, I think Cowl will offer to let him join them. Maybe even offer to free Harry from his servitude in exchange. I think that Cowl's motivation is going to be pretty typically super villain, but he will try to sell it as something other than that, and I think Harry will call him for being a "comic book villain" to his face for it.

Most likely Cowl's motivation is something along the lines of, "We have power, yet we hide and we let this lesser people rule this world. They will destroy it, they squander what they have, we will take control and we will show them a better way... In order to do this we have to take extreme measures however..."

Somewhere in there Cowl will make some comment about how the White Council is weak.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

I am not sure what the acronym WAG means?

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

Bob the Skull will tell Harry that he knew he wasn't dead all along, Harry will ask why he didn't say anything, Bob will either reply "because that wouldn't have been any fun" or he will reply that, "Harry, you never asked."

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
Murphy's gonna beat the f**k out of him
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?
Well, Mouse and Mister are out so I'm guessing Maggie

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
Some sort of Ice/blizzard storm. Think an Icy twist on Forzare, and hopefully some sort of icy shield or dupe.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down? Santa Clause, and death by Chocolate.

How funny would it be if Dresden first came across Mortimer, who started talking down to him because he figured he was still a spirit... so Harry goes along with it pretending to talk to "ghosts" that Mort can't see until they're in mixed company and other people acknowledge his presence. Basically screwing with Mort's confidence in his ability lol

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
Sith will be the reluctant Pancho.  Toot Toot and Sith snark a lot.
2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.
a.   Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
Carlos
b.   What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
Carlos is about to ambush Molly at the order of Merlin, but Harry steps out of shadow, and says “I think not.” And something about bottlecaps, like “you don’t get to be Winter Knight by collecting bottle caps.”
c.   Who will have the coolest reaction?
Morty will have an even cooler & more hysterical reaction than when Harry the Ghost visited him.  Especially since he and Murphy are now living together. Well, his house did burn down. And Murphy could use a change from bad boys like Kincaid.
d.   Who will have the most touching reaction?
Obviously, Mouse.  What’s more touching than a boy and his dog reunited?
Mister will be aloof with Harry but will slap Sith across the room out of jealous
y.
3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be most useful to him during the story (and how)?
The shotgun shown on the cover is a  multipurpose tool—flame thrower, staff, cudgel All in one.  But it’s a misdirection.  Harry’s  new tattoos pack a lot of real power .  They won’t fall off like those rings and bracelets.  Or freeze his skin in Winter.
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
Mab sends Harry after that dragon. She wants whatever his present at the party when Lea received the athame.
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
Harry must choose between a long range objective and letting a loved one die.  Personally I’m hoping Ebenezer bites the dust.    Harry could have saved granddad easy enough but the other option was more essential to saving the world.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?
]Fix and Harry have a beer and grumble about their job duties.  Fix survives the hangover.
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
It goes back to the period when Margaret was young, when the Merlin sent the wardens after her.   Margaret then decides to have a child who will be powerful enough to fight whatever the Black Council is planning.
8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
1.    LC was repaired by subconscious Harry after Lash informed him of the problem.  Our Harry was just sleepwalking.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to withi n Cold Days will be counted.
I really hope the “parasite” Mab referred to is Lash but I fear that in those missing minutes, before all the Red Court vamps died, that one bit Harry and he now has a spiritual parasite Hunger. Lash and the Hunger snark a lot. Subconscious Harry drinks a lot.
Harry visits the tomb of Susan and the sale of Kleenex skyrockets.

Before Ebenezer dies he tells Harry that the Merlin is his other grandfather.   Ebenezer married the Merlin’s daughter and kept Margaret’s birth a secret from the Merlin.  Martha Liberty was the midwife. And Margaret's mother.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
Toot Toot and Sith

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Molly - Lea has been teaching her, after all, as a proxy for Harry - and with Lea's being a Winter vassal, it would seem to be a natural that Molly would know through her. Something along the lines of, "La, it's been fun, teaching you, but all this time spent with mortals is boring. Glad my time with you is finally over." Molly --"Wha, what do you mean?" "Silly girl, I was stepping in for Harry when he wasn't available to teach you. Now he is." Molly -- "WHAT?!?!?!" Harry, walking in, "Hello, Molly. Yes, it's me. And yes, it's a long story. The first thing I want to say to you, tho, is, 'I'm so sorry.'"

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
Sheridan-esque: "I was dead. I'm better now."  (Gandalf's lines, while very cool, sound too epic and important - not the snark we've come to know and love from Harry.)

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
Murphy - I agree with others who claim it will be a cool combo of joy and anger. Hugs and punches, tears and swearing, all in the space of about 3 minutes

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Molly - She will stare in shock. Then break down in tears while hugging him fiercely

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
It's got to be a new host of "cold" spells. He's already used ice arrows/spears (Changes, Arianna duel). That one he will probably work with more than he has in the past. I see him perhaps using ice as a means to wall something in - either to imprison or to slow down.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
The blurb says that Harry's first "assignment" is an immortal. My guess would be an old god, one that is responsible for the threat to Demonreach. My own theory about what Demonreach is the gateway for, is hell itself. Therefore, I'm thinking that Harry somehow figures out how to banish his baddie straight to Hell. Permanently.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
See my answer below to Harry's interaction with Fix. I think the choice that Harry will make will be to save Fix, even though doing so will jeopardize his chance to finish the task Mab has set for him.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much guaranteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix will be terrified. Even though he has grown in power as SK, I think he still doesn't consider himself to be anywhere near Harry's ability when it comes to magic use. I think that Harry is going to find a way to show Fix that he is still a friend. (Even though Harry was angry when Fix pulled a gun on him in that one instance, he also discovered that Fix rigged the confrontation as a way to warn him that Summer was after Harry, despite Titania's geis.) Fix will survive - and it will be because Harry saved his life.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
I think we're going to see more of who on the Nevernever side of things is part of the BC. If my theory of The Demonreach gateway to Hell is correct, we're going to see more of the demonic and outsider influence, and what motives are.

8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
Here's mine: the immortal Harry will be asked to kill is none other than Odin - and we know how hard/impossible that would be. Harry is going to find the real enemy, and take him out, not the one (Odin) that Mab asked him to take out.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

Harry hasn't been bitten before that I remember.  When the red vamps were torturing him they did all sorts of vile unspecified things, but they couldn't feed from his blood because he had all that poison in his system.  He had taken poison so Lea wouldn't keep him in Winter, possibly turned into a hound, and hadn't taken the antidote when the vamps got him.

I don't really think Harry is now part vampire but wow! what a lot of challenges he would have.  Particularly if Mab can keep the Hunger in check, but if Harry annoys her....

The Questions:

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
Toot-Toot, who has evolved somewhat after Harry's death.  Having to essentially taken the place of Harry as Za Lord.

Quote
2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
Thomas, Harry pretty much did not include him in the events of Ghost Story, & owes him some explanation.

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
There will be a Gandalf the White joke, especially if Harry is sporting white in his clothing now.

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
Lea, explaining to Molly that she did say it was unusual for a shade to appear after its death, ergo it couldn't have been one.

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?
Little Maggie.  Daddy?

Quote
3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,26613.0.html)/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
In Summer Knight & Changes it's been shown that a Winter Knight can channel his power into a sword blade.  Harry will do this with a Winchester shotgun instead.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
It'll likely be a fire God, I'm not sure which one.  Harry will defeat the God by consigning it to Oblivion, with Thomas's help.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
Harry will find a way out of being the Winter Knight, but will choose to remain as such, but only in a part time capacity, which he can leave eventually.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?
Yes, they will oppose each on the field, but I expect a scene of them sharing a brew at Mac's in the epilogue.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
A vague sense of their endgame & who would benefit.  So far, they don't seem to be much more than random proponents of chaos, if the Wolf pelts & Shadowman were indeed associated with their goals.

Quote
8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
Toot will become the new Za Lord.

Quote
9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
Harry will have the confrontation with the White Council that the Gatekeeper alluded to in Turn Coat.  Possiblely, Molly's Trial 2, Electric Boogaloo.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Toot Toot will be the main sidekick at least at first.  Since Harry will be on-mission when he comes back I think he is going to try and avoid contact with his friends until he has time to talk to them so he uses Toot to gather information more discreetly than he could on his own.  This obviously will not work out for too long.  Molly will be his second main sidekick once she finds out.

Quote
2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Though not a friend I think Ancient Mai will be the first non-fae to find out.  In SK it was her responsibility to contact the Queens at the beginning to see if the WC could get access to the Ways.  Because of that I believe she is in charge of WC-Fae relations and if the WC sends any representatives to the Celebration of Birth, Mai will be among them.

But among his actual friends, Molly will be the first when Lea turns her over to Harry to continue training.

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

To Mai - "Gimme a hug, I know how much you've missed me"  Then he forcibly hugs her as she is both dumbstruck and trying to maintain absolute formality.

To Molly - Quotes Gandalf the Grey/White "I am Harry the White" etc.

To JLoC - Harry goes for a pithy one-liner like "miss me?" then they all proceed to assault him.

Carlos, something along the lines of how he liked being the only commander of the U.S. and doesn't want to share all the ladies with Harry. "That whole tortured soul, back from the dead, tragic knight routine might get a lot of play back in Fairy but you can't compete with me in the real world."

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Michael, Mouse and Maggie.  I predict big hugs and tears with Michael and Mouse but a very delicate moment with Maggie where it is touching but could break at any moment due to what happened in CI and his part in it.

I think the Winchester on the cover will be just a regular gun he picks up along the way if it shows up at all.  Since he will not have a blasting rod and I'm guessing Mab didn't think to grab the staff Harry borrowed from Eb, I think he is going to get a staff and sword made from the black ice of Arctis Tor.  Possibly it will be an all-in-one where it is either like the cane-sword or it simply transforms between the two as he requires it.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

My first instinct is Kincaid but I can't see a whole book with just him as the enemy.  So instead I'll just go with a Formor lord or godling.  It will try and take over or destroy Demonreach so Harry will tap the leyline and kill it with an awe inspiring display of soulfire laced fire, ice, earth and lighting.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Does he try to separate himself from everyone he knew so that they don't get caught up in his thug-work for Mab or does he lean on his friends for support.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much guaranteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix will be ordered to attack Harry by Titania.  They will fight once or twice with Fix losing since he was holding back and Harry let him live.  But Titania will give Fix an ultimatum of Kill Harry or I kill you for being worthless etc.  So Fix and Harry will fight one last time with Fix fighting hard enough that Harry has to deal a mortal blow and it is a sad scene for Fix as he apologizes to Harry but gets to have a good death rather than get tortured like Lloyd.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

Mab will reveal more motivation for the attack on Arctis Tor.  Lea had tried to help Harry by killing an Outsider with the Athame but got possessed instead thus Mab locked her up, the BC came to attack and get their outsider back, Harry helped heal her with his outsiderbaneness which is why Mab used the fetches to lure him in.

Now the BC has set their sights on Demonreach(which I believe the loci is an outsider) to control it.(over Harry's Dead Body).

Quote
8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Jim said Harry's grandmother on his mother's side was mortal.  That's all we know about her.  I believe that she was a changeling daughter of Lea's which would help explain her readiness to protect Harry/her bloodline from trouble.  And it would explain why Maggie Sr. was tight with the fae as well.

At the end of Changes Eb referred to Odin as one of "our elders" which I believe is a subtle hint that Eb is a distant decendant of Merlin and Odin was Merlin's dad.  This means Harry is Odin's distant descendant.

Thus both of these help explain why Lea and Odin helped as much as they did in CI since they needed to save their own asses from the bloodline curse.  Booya!

One of the reasons why the ways from Demonreach are so dangerous is because one leads to the Moon where the BC has been hiding in their evil-overlord-moon-base-death-star.  Harry needs to take it over and then protect the way by living on Demonreach.  (I wish there was a smiley face for laughing maniacally.)

Quote
9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues alluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

Butters and Murphy will have become an item in the wake of Harry's Death. Harry gets pissed, "First you took my skull and now you took my girl, WTF man?" She is definitely the dominant person in that relationship.

Harry will finally get laid, ALOT.  Before he leaves Arctis Tor he gets jumped by Maeve and possibly Mab as well. Once out he goes to Lara for info who then seduces him in exchange for info.  Afterwards he meets up with Molly who uses her mind mojo to take advantage of him.  Finally at the end after all the fighting has settled out, he gets with Murph.  Then they all get pregnant and he has a ton of explaining to do by the next book.  So he hides on Demonreach to avoid the fallout. ;D

Harry's changeling nurse at the beginning of CD was actually Lloyd Slate's daughter which leads to some major league awkwardness.  "Sorry I killed your dad but he was kind of a jerk.  No hard feelings?"

Bah, Harry would let her.

Harry: *Nursing various bruises*

Ramirez: Since you seem to enjoy letting yourself be beaten black and blue, you mind acting as a target for the younger Wardens' long range evocation spells?

Harry: *glares*

Harry: Shut up Carlos.

I like the staff idea, but I'd think it would come from the ice-covered tree in the courtyard at Arctis Tor, rather than an ice staff. The sword would be uber cool if it was just a hilt, sort of like a lightsaber, and once Harry draws it, the air freezes into a blade. Nice visual effect, a cool Winter-themed power, and a Star Wars connection all in one.

I'm going to go with Toot Toot and Cat Sith.  The latter seems all but assured based on the preview chapter, and Toot's a fairy, it's a fairy book, and lets face it, everything needs more Toot Toot.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

I'm going to go with Molly.  I believe Harry's going to want to keep something of a low profile at first since he's on the job and the whole "Iwas dead, no I'm back" bit is going to be awkward enough without adding all that WK nonsense ontop.  However, as other's have mentioned, Molly's going to find out via Lea whether harry wants her to or not.

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

Chalk up another vote for a Gandalf the White quote.

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Tie between Molly, Murphy, and Thomas.  They are all going to beat the sh*t out of him.

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

See part c, as said beat downs will be followed by heartfelt displays of emotion (and possibly a second beat down :P)

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

I think the Winchester is just another case of artist embellishment.  I think the upgrade is going to come in the form of new faerie crafted tools to replace his staff, rod, etc, straight from Mab herself.  Also, and expansion ofthe fire/ice magic crossovers we saw at the end of Changes.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

My first guess was one of Summer's royalty, but that would be too much of a SK rehash.  So, my next thought for someone opposed to Winter was some sort of fire diety.  Lately Jim has been including a fair amount of Norse mythological elements, and I think he might want to take one more crack at that before expanding into other cultures.  I can't find the quote, but I seem to remember that in addition to old faerie cousins of the Sidhe, one of the groups specifically mentioned as being a part of the fomor coalition was the exiled remnents of the jotans.  So, putting 2 and 2 together, and possibly coming up with 5, I'm going to say Mab's sending him after Surtur, who will be a high ranking member of the fomor. No clue how Harry beats him.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Something about betraying his principles to preform his knightly duties.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much guaranteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

If Lilly and Maeve can hatch a scheme together, why not the knights.  I'm going to guess that they will have a couple lightweight clashes before Harry convinces Fix to help him out, as the fomor are equally enemies of both summer and winter (see my theory on the big bad).

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

More information on the connection between the BC and the fomor via Harry's target.  My guess is that they are willing allies, not stooges like the Red Court.  Also, obligatory explaination of the Arctis Tor incident in PG.

Hi guys.

I just noticed that there was an ARC of Cold Days sold on e-bay, so it's time to start wrapping things up.  I will lock this thread on Sunday, so this is your chance to edit your predictions and make last-minute modifications.

I have some ideas for coming up with little badges/pieces of art/icons as official bragging rights.  If anyone has the time and wants to help out, let me know.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
The main sidekick will be Herbie, the living embodiment of the Blue Beetle.  It will be sarcastic and tempremental, but be able to navigate through the nevernever like no one else.

2A:  Mister will encounter Harry on one of his nightly wanderings.  Being a cat, he won’t tell anyone.
2B: Each time Harry appears to a friend, they will have a counter-snark or preemptive snark ready, just to steal his thunder.
2C: Molly will have the coolest, initiating a truly epic round of pop-culture reference one-upsmanship.
2D: Mac.  He will hand Harry a beer and say, “thought you was dead.”

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?
Harry will sprout wings on his ankles, enabling himself to fly just above the ground. Oh, and it will give him the ability to talk to fish, which will help out in the BAT, somehow.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
Harry’s gonna have a throw down with Santa Claus, ‘cause Mab is tired of being put on his naughty list every year.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
Harry will be forced to choose between Coke and Pepsi.  Coke, of course, will be the easy choice, but by choosing Pepsi he will save the world.  Of course, that means giving up on Burger King once and for all.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?
Squirt guns at 20 paces, with Fix, the loser, being forced to dress like Bugs Bunny in drag for a full year.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
Their dress code, secret handshake, decoder ring, and that the “evil overlords” list is required reading for them.  The last one will send chills into Dresden as he realizes it makes his enemies essentially snark-proof.

8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
The “Molly is Mab” theory:  it will have something to do with matching piercings, I’m certain of it.
The “Harry is a decoy” theory:  Elaine will be relvealed to have been Harry’s mother in disguise all along, leading to some really uncomfortable silences around the dinner table.
The Black Court employee register:  The Merlin will have a heart to heart with Harry, explaining that he really didn’t hate Harry after all.  The Merlin, it seems, believes in the whole concept of “spare the rod, spoil the child” and was only harsh on Harry to make him the best he could be.  He turns out to be a good guy after all.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
Harry will visit Chicago, Harry will visit Edinborough.  Harry will complain about the cold.  Harry will go to Burger King.  There will be at least one reference to Star Wars / Star Trek / D&D / The Lord of the Rings.  Harry will build an igloo outside of Arctis Tor and attempt to sell snow-cones to the natives.

He's a knight, I expect him to finally have a sword imbued with Winter magic.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
My guess is someone new.  Likely one of the fae.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
How to accomplish his job without upsetting the balance between Winter and Summer.  Hurting his summer fae friends, who are now sworn enemies.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?
Fix will likely survive, but there will definitely be some battles.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
Mab all along has been trying to thwart Black Council actions (they likely asked her to join them, and she rejected).  Someone had to have let those black council members enter her realm, and Summer had her crew distracted at the border.  It appears Titania may be a black council member, but if she is revealed as such, Harry will likely not take her on at this point in the storyline.  More potential BC members will be revealed.  One of Harry's old comrades likely, such as Exgirl.  Elaine.  If around, Bob will likely inform Harry much of what he learned about black council from Evil Bob.
Quote
8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
a. Titania is black council
b. Elaine is black council
c. Mab will collaborate with Grey council.

9.E/C  Harry will find it difficult to be forthright with his friends as he is under Winter's control.  This will cause some rifts between him and his friends.  He will be startled by Fix's adeptness in his role as summer knight, and will likely be duped by them more than once.  Bob lives!

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?
Toot, being a fairie, will be Harry's main sidekick. Toot will help Harry by explaining the Fae to him in more detail, as well as providing support and being a "go-to" guy. Lea will probably have a big contribution by giving him all kinds of interesting information. Cowl will make an appearance, and as a (dangerous and untrustworthy) ally who helps Harry stop whatever badness is going down on Demonreach.

Quote
2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?
Butters and Bob. Harry already explained that he might not be dead to them, so they're most likely to accept his return without violence.
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?
Gandalf reference, but instead of Gandalf the White it'll be Gandalf the Blue, because of the Winter Knight thing.
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?
I predict an amusing series of reactions, similar to the apartment scenes in Turn Coat, where they each try to kill Harry when they see him.
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?
Murphy, by far. She'll practially collapse when Harry proves it's him, and she'll end up punching him in the face through her tears.

Obvious answer is that Harry will be relying on a lot of ice magic instead of his usual fire. He'll do a cool thing to some monster where he freezes it and shatters it with a blast of force.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?
Obviously someone who pissed off Mab. I'm predicting someone responsible for Arctis Tor. Possibly a yet-unknown godling who participated. Surprise answer: He won't kill them. He'll stop them from pulling off whatever scheme they're doing, but they'll live.

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
Some powerful being (Drakul?) will offer to protect him and his loved ones from Mab in exchange for service. Harry has to choose between breaking his deal with Mab, or making a new deal with something possibly worse.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?
No encounter with Fix, other than maybe talking to him at the "birth party" or whatever it is at the start of the book.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?
Cowl's identity, for one. And maybe some of the other players in the Circle's corner. One of which includes Drakul.

Quote
8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.
Lash will reappear at the end of the book in one form or another.

Cowl's identity will be that of a mentioned/seen once but never again, character, but not anyone Harry personally knows.

Carlos is missing some body part that he lost in a battle with the Fomor.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Elaine-While stuck in winter, he will be using Elaine to get info from the outside.  This will be accomplished with a Lash-boosted mind-link spell, and go on behind Mab’s back.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.
a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Ivy – While Harry is stuck in Winter, he will send a message to Ivy indicating his state of non-death.  If it is just the friends from Changes, Thomas, when he comes to get help from someone he can trust, and is least likely to beat him up too much.

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

Harry, Dressed in Winter White, will say while talking with Sanya “See I told you I was Gandalf”

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Thomas – A conversation about how the CPD still has his boat as evidence and how Harry will be paying for fixing the hole and a new paint job.

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Maggie – Harry will change his mind about wanting to be out of touch with Maggie.  He will let her know that once he has a place, she will be welcome to stay with him.  Much outpouring of emotion from Harry, much confusion and reluctance from Maggie.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

Opposition magic will be his new goto ability.  Fire and Ice, Air and Earth will each be combined in spells to produce exciting and disastrous results.  Darkness will be his power-up.  I am not exactly sure how this will manifest, but the coolest thing I think will be transitioning through darkness (shadows, lakes, etc) both to and from the NN.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Lash/Lasciel.  Mab does not want someone mucking about Harry’s head (except Mab).  Harry will be tasked with defeating Lasciel.  To do this, Harry will have to take up the coin and engage in direct confrontation with Lasciel to finally free him from all links to Lasciel.  Harry will keep Lash around just to tick Mab off.
Additionally, the Fomor will be setup as a Big bad to deal with, but only so far as a particularly big brute, not a higher up.  Higher up Fomor will be dealt with later.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Harry will have to Choose between Lasciel and Mab.  Lasciel will reveal some motivations separate from Nic’s motivations.  It will involve offers for Harry tapping into the energy released from Chichen itza, the Dark Hallow, or (most likely) Demonreach.  Time travel will be floated around as well to taunt harry into accepting.  This offer will include fixing Molly and Murphy because Harry will have never left.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Fix will be working with Harry to stave off the Fomor threat.  These battles will take place largely in the NN, but will involve denying real world gains by the Fomor.  Fix will treat Harry like a trusted enemy, while Harry will constantly be asking fix to loosen up.  Harry will say he killing Fix would not be a mission Harry would accept, while Fix will continue to believe that Harry will not have the option to decline.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

Mordite trafficking will be a subplot for Harry to follow-up on.  Tracking the Mordite will supposedly lead to black council wizards, but will actually lead Harry to Senior Council Wizards namely, the Merlin, McCoy, Listens to Wind, and Liberty.

8 ) There are many WAG theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

A) Harry’s Title of ‘Za Lord is more than just idle talk.  Mab will confront him on challenging her authority by gathering his own private army and appointing himself lord.  A lesson in Names having power will be provided by Mab.  This will be setup for the creation of a post of Winter King or Autumn/Spring King-One for the Harvest, and One for the Hunt.

B) Mrs. Mouse/Mouse’s Twin will be conceptually but not physically introduced.  The Idea of Foo Dog Pairing will be brought up by Mai, and the strangeness of his loneness will be highlighted.

C) Mab (or her proxy) fixed little Chicago.  She did not want to lose her prize or fulfillment of the bargains, so she fixed it.  As Leah was tasked with looking after Harry, Mab viewed it as her responsibility to prevent Harry’s Head from disintegrating.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.
The Rifle will be a gift from Kincaid.  It will have bullets that are particularly effective against Fae, and more effective on the more powerful Fae.  It will be a sorry I didn’t kill you gift.

Fix, Lea, and Bob. Everyone of Harry's allies will make an appearance or contribute in some way to the plot. This is going to be a big book. 528 pages according to wiki.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Murphy or Molly

b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

LoTR Gandalf reference followed by the Princess Bride quote.

c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Bob, "What kept you Boss?"

d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Mouse

- In each case, remember to specify for extra credit.

3 ) In nearly every book, Harry usually comes up with a new powerup (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,26613.0.html)/tool/way of making things go boom.  Given that he just became the new WK, what new abilities will he rely on and which new ability will be the most useful to him during the story (and how)?

Going to go with either the rifle on the cover (original, I know...) or Harry is going to figure out some kind of Chrono Trigger Antipod thing, he''ll be able to cook someone while freezing someonelse at the same time.

4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

Drakul, he has been mentioned several times in the series and he'll turnout to be a major mover in the BC.

HWWB- Outsiders are supposed to be unkillable. Mab wants to test out Harry's outsiderbane abilities. Problem is it will turn out that in order for Harry to confront the Walker, he will have to summon him, bye bye 7th Law.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

If the big bad is Drakul, he'll offer to free Harry of his WK mantle and tell him everything about his past and the BC.

If the big bag is HWWB, Harry will be forced to summon the Walker in order to fight it; breaking the 7th law.

6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Harry and FIx will be forced to work together, but they will make an agreement to settle any serious disputes with a "duel to submission" using Nerf bats. Once again making a mockery of conservative supernatural institutions.

7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

The entire Arctis Tor assault will be explained as well as the Athame and what happened with Lea's imprisonment. Several members of the BC will be identified and Cowl will be unmasked.

8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Cowl will be revealed to be Simon Petrovich.

Demonreach will turn out to be the access point to the Outer Gates.

9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues aluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

Murphy will finally pick Fidelacchius full time.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

Toot and Cat Sith will be Harry's primary companions.  Although impressive for a dewdrop, Cat Sith will find Toot too far beneath him.  Molly will have a significant role.  Murphy's role will be limited.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

Quote
a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Bob will find out first, and through him, Butters.

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

He will quote Gandalf.  He will also quote Princess Bride, and Monty Python ("I got better!")

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Molly will get so excited her camouflage reflex will kick in, causing her visibility to vary in degrees, along with her hair color.

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

Thomas, who will try to act nonchalant but fail.

One new ability which will be significant is his new physical prowess.  The strength and endurance will help in more than just the obvious ways (e.g. allowing steady aim with that rifle).  Ice will be used often, of course.  He will layer protections on a new duster, but make it a permanent charm.  He will not use Fae magic to create or augment any foci.

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

The Big Bad will be one of the Fomor (not a servitor).  It will be fairly high-ranking, as it has been around since before they were cast into the sea.  Harry will not kill it, due to his thoughts on the aftermath of Changes in Ghost Story and how he needs to consider the longer-term effects of his decisions.  Harry will remove its incentive to continue threatening Demonreach (the source of magic referenced in the blurb).

Quote
5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?

Harry will allow a friend or ally to be killed or seriously harmed because of his decision to either:
(a) not kill the Big Bad (while not violating the letter of Mab's order), or
(b) follow Mab's orders and kill it.

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much guaranteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Harry will not kill Fix.  Fix will survive, unless he is the aforementioned ally who will die as a result of Harry's big choice.  He will have multiple interactions with Fix, each less confrontational than the last.  Fix will show Harry just how much more experienced he is at Knighting in their first interaction.

Quote
7 ) Jim has mentioned that it's about time now to start revealing some of the motivations/dealings of the shadowy figures working behind the scenes (i.e. what Harry calls the "Black Council").  What Black Council secrets/actions will be revealed in this book?

It will be revealed that there is no single "Black Council," but rather that there are at least 2 such organizations working toward different ends.  Where their interests coincide they are not opposed to working together, but there is no alliance.  At least one of these groups is aware of the Grey Council.  If there are 3 or more such groups, one of them IS the Grey Council (though it is working specifically to subvert the other two).

Thus far, these groups have been intentionally destabilizing the balance of power in order to create the conditions necessary to accomplish one larger,  more specific initiative.  The aim of at least one of these groups is to specifically eliminate the Sidhe (as in, all of them (especially Mab)).  The aim of another is to invite the Outsiders in for open-house and tea.  As an Outsiderbane Winter Knight, Harry is now a major target for both of these groups, and the prized member of the Grey Council (though he won't know it yet).

Quote
8 ) There are many WAG ("Wild A$$ Guess") theories on the boards.  Write up to three WAG theories you believe are correct that will be confirmed (or at least have evidence in favor of) in Cold Days.

Lash will come back in this book.  She will be a full-on ally/power-up to Harry from now on.  Because her abilities are less limited by Harry's physical body than Harry's abilities are, Harry will have a weaker version of the perfect memory he had in Ghost Story.  Evidence for this will be established this book, but it will become much more pronounced next book.  Harry's new Lash-powered memory will reach back to before he had even picked up the coin, since she will be helping him around his own mortal limitations and not simply remembering things for him.

Cowl has been working for or in league with the Fomor.  However, he has bigger plans and is merely using them as a temporary tool.  We will learn little if anything about Kumori in this book.

Quote
9 ) Extra credit:  Write down any prediction about that you think might improve your final score.  Only issues alluded to within Cold Days will be counted.

At some point, Harry and Cat Sith together will encounter Mister.  Mister will smash into Harry's shins as usual, and completely and arrogantly ignore Cat Sith.  This will improve Cat Sith's estimation of Harry.

Marcone will make at most minor appearances in this book, more in the following one.

This looks like a whole barrel of fun, so I'm purposefully gonna avoid looking at anyone else's answers until I've finished my post.  Sorry if I retread over any old ground.

1 ) Harry usually has a few supporting characters in each book.  Who do you think will be the main sidekick in Cold Days and in what way will they help?  Who else will have a significant contribution to the plot?

This one's pretty much a no brainer.  Harry's been removed from his usual companions, and he's gonna have to be navigating Faerie.  Toot has lost his source of Pizza payment, and so the 'Za Lord's militia will have largely scattered, but the core members of the Guard will have held together, with Toot as their surprisingly capable commander.  In fact, I'd be willing to bet they'll have carved out a nice little domain for themselves among the lower-ranking winter Fae, due both to their history of working together for a common goal, and Toot's surprisingly capable leadership.  I wouldn't be surprised if Toot were knee-high by the time Harry starts PT.  He'll take it upon himself to show Harry all the ins and outs, giving Harry all kinds of information about things of (seemingly) no pertinence, while at the same time, being nearly useless for the things Harry actually needs.  I mean, he may be a bigger deal these days, but the habits formed over the course of centuries as a scatterbrained pixie aren't going to go away overnight.  However, something he mentions in passing, something about the relations and politics between the lowest ranking members of the Winter and Summer courts, will prove vital to Harry's eventual solution.  I even predict that Harry will realize, either that Summer and Winter are very much in collusion, with both Mab and Titania working together toward a common goal, or that Titania is the one who has been insane all along.  Not sure which.

2 ) At the end of Ghost Story, Harry has said goodbye to all his friends in Chicago.

a. Who will be the first friend to find out Harry isn't dead?

Of his 'friends,' Elaine will be the first to find out, or possibly Fix.  Elaine will be very much involved in whatever's going down though, and this book will end up either clearing her, pretty much for good, or culminate in her ultimate betrayal.  Again, I'm not sure which.  Either way, she still has a major debt to clear with Summer, despite what she said at the end of Summer Knight.

Of the Chicago crowd, my money is on Marcone being the first to Know, through Monoc.  However, Harry will appear to Murphy first, though she may be in a big-ass scrap with the JLoC when that happens.

Quote
b. What shenanigans/snark will Harry use when he "re-appears"?

"I am Harry the White, and I return to you now, at the turn of the tide!"

(Option B: "I got better!")

Quote
c. Who will have the coolest reaction?

Butters may well continue any geek quote Harry uses for his re-appearance.

Quote
d. Who will have the most touching reaction?

This one will depend on who you're more invested in, as a reader.  For me, Molly, who will finally be able to break down and cry, after having had to be strong for so long.  The sudden relief will be what nearly breaks her, but the fact that she can still cry will show there is hope.  She'll probably kiss him. For many, Murphie's reaction will be the most touching.  She'll kiss him too, and then she'll punch him right in the face.  Honorable mention, Thomas, again with the fist to the face.

Harry will continue to refine his current evocations, as well as playing with more complex combos.  I think we'll see Harry use Ice as a defense again, perhaps to make a temporary shield that doesn't require constant juice. Perhaps a  defensive igloo to buy him some time to pull off a big working.  He may also use it as first aid, to stop bleeding.  Extra points, if he uses it on Fix.

I also think he'll learn some tricks about Faerie glamours. Magic disguises of seeming, similar to the potion he used in Fool Moon.  He's used them before, and to good effect, but I think he'll get some good ideas here.  I also think that we'll really start to see the effects in a couple books when he pulls of a really clever disguise, similar to how he used Luccio's fire needle in Changes.   With Fae tutelage and soulfire to give his crafting solidity, it's possible that he could create something that would fool normal detection methods, perhaps even cause difficulty for the Sight (I doubt he could fool it completely, but he might be able to make it difficult to figure).

Quote
4 ) Harry generally has a "Big Bad" to worry about.  In fact, according to the blurb, Harry is going after someone very specific.  Who will that enemy be, and how will Harry take him/her/it down?

I would love it to be Dracula (Baby Vlad, not Daddy Drakul), just for the cheesy dialogue, but I don't think that's likely.  We've already got the Fae and the Fomor plotlines going strong.  I don't think Mavra is due to show up for another book or two, at least, and it would be disappointing to have Harry make like Buffy without her at least making an appearance.

I'll say Mab will order Harry to kill Santa Clause, mostly because it would be hilarious. I don't think we'll have a clear cut "Big Bad" here, rather several majorly badass proxies.

Still, we need a badguy who really deserves a beatdown.  Not really sure on that one. Might come back to this.

5 ) Harry usually faces some sort of "Choice" in every book.  A point where the easy way out will cost his soul/humanity in some way. According to the blurb, this book will be no different.  What will be the most crucial "choice" Harry makes?
Follow Mab's orders and kill the Clause, or defy her will and face the consequences?  Also, how far is he willing to go to preserve Fix and Lilly's lives during their duels?

Quote
6 ) As the new Winter Knight, Harry is pretty much garunteed to encounter his Summer counterpart -- Fix.  What will their interactions be?  Will Fix survive?

Harry will, at various points, have to deal with Fix, the Lily, Gruffs, and a shitload of elves desperate to protect their jolly bearded leige.  Fix and Lilly, who are obviously lovers, will attack pre-emptively, and wipe the floor with Harry, but Harry will manage to escape.  On the second encounter, they'll take Harry captive, because let's face it, Harry always ends up captive, however, it turns out that they're basically being controlled as a puppet, and Harry will manage to find a way to exploit that to escape.  Third encounter, Harry's gotten a hang of the whole knight thing, and he has Fix's number, but he leaves him alive,  possibly using that freezing as first aid trick I mentioned earlier. Eldest Gruff will give him a donut, and laugh.  Tiny will have thoroughly rustled jimmies.

I'll have to come back to these

...and that's a wrap.

As I mentioned in my previous post, an ARC for the book has already been sold on e-bay, so it's time to lock this thread so that people won't be tempted to post spoilers here as they become available.  Thank you all for participating, I am looking forward to grading these and to see what insights people had.

What is coming next:

1) I will need to grade everything.  It looks like there are about 50 submissions, so unless something goes horribly wrong, you guys should expect a score thread around one-two weeks after the book comes out.

2) Depending on how varied the answers are, I may need some help in grading.  We will all be able to see all the answers, so I may just put things up to a vote.

3) I am currently planning a bunch of different kinds of winners.  The grand winner will probably be the person with the total highest score, but I would like to come up with multiple "honorable mentions" or different categories for alternate wins.

4) Another cool idea would be to have individual pieces of art/banners that people can put as their signature/avatar for bragging rights.  Examples could be

"Bronze Star" - got at least one questions right in the Cold Days predict-a-thon.
"Silver Star" - got at least three questions right in the Cold Day predict-a-thon
"Gold Star" - got at least five questions right in the Cold Days predict-a-thon.
etc.
....

I haven't got any ideas for the art yet, if anyone has ideas or is willing to come up with something, let me know.

Stay tuned.

knnn.
