Hi,
we are developing characters forur campaign and a question came up for which I have no qick answer: Can WCVs handle sunlight or are hey bound to the night like othe vampires?
-
WCV's have no problem with sunlight. This is canon in both the novels and the RPG books.
-
Thanks for the quick answer!!! :)
-
Yeah, there's an ambiguous line in the WCV section of "Our World" where it says they are affected "less" by the traditional vampire weaknesses, when it should have been clearly "not at all."
-
Well, now, that depends on the vampire weakness in question, now doesn't it? A stake to the heart will stop your average WCV quite nicely, for example. ;)
And they can be limited or weakened by thresholds, much like any other supernatural entity.
But sunlight won't do more than give them a nice tan.
-
If only "Threshold Sensitivity" was a separate, codified disadvantage/limitation.
-
Doesn't need to be, it's easily dealt with by compels.

Except that thresholds have rather explicit effects far beyond mere compels.
-
Well yes, but whether you're affected by them in the first place is a compel to your high concept. A threshold always works in the manner the rules state, however it does nothing to the pure mortal, while severely hindering the RCV. Why? Compels to the red court's high concept. A compel makes it work in the proscribed manner.

And if the RCV refuses that compel?

And if the RCV refuses that compel?
That would mean that you get Fate Points for crossing a Threshold uninvited, as a player? I mean, I can see how that works a bit to even out how a wizard needs to park much of his power outside if he does that, but for NPCs? If you're a demon you're either strong enough to bust through the Threshold or you're forced to wait outside, right?
-
I see threasholds as effectily lowering the bonus provided by any powers a RCV or WCV by its rating, to a minimum of zero.
-
Thresholds act as a block vs supernatural powers if crossed uninvited. Essentially acting like armor since it doesn't go away unless the threshold is taken down. No need for a compel.
-
Now, you can have a compel involving a character with powers and a threshold. It would just look like a compel on a pure mortal fighter type on going somewhere that involves leaving their weapons behind.
-
Ok, that's a good question that I have no answer to Tedronai, but let me turn this around then. Two "people" try to walk through a threshold, one is a true believer the other is a RCV. Mechanically what's the difference between the two and why is one affected while the other is not?
-
Are True Believers affected by Thresholds? By RAW they are, and I don't think it's ever come up in the novels because True Believers aren't the sort of people to break into people's houses.

I'm sure Satanist or Chaos-worshiping True Believers might...

Satanist would generally be quite reticent about breaking into another's home. I believe you're referring to Satan-worshippers. It's a common misconception, and so can be forgiven, though.
