Title: Champion of god (For other pantheons)
Post by: Gilitine_Memitim on February 17, 2015, 12:42:59 AM
I've considered use of the concept of a champion of god for a local pantheon. I was just wondering if anyone here has used a similar concept or has any good ideas for this sort of concept.

Off the top of my head a modified emissary of power comes to mind.

That's kind of what the Winter and Summer knights are.

They seem more like supernaturally backed wizards/enforcers than the champion of gods though. The COG's have powers they have to take that are more thematical with the job. Like bless my house and guide my hand. I'll probably end up either just using those or revamping them to make them a bit more rooted in the local nature.

It's for an NPC not a character, so I have plenty of time to think on it. *shrug*

I don't think any modifications are necessary. It sounds like a standard emissary to me.

If you want them to have True Faith Powers or unusual pantheon-specific tricks, then you totally can. The emissary Template lets you take whatever Powers seem appropriate, IIRC.

I've done a shaman NPC with some true believer powers and sponsored magic with a snake theme for Cradle of Darkness. The mix works remarkably well. I'll see if I can find the writeup again.

EDIT:
Found it.

Bless this House
Guide my Hand
Righteousness
Holy Touch
Sponsored Magic (Coatlicue)

So yeah, basically a full true believer plus sponsored magic, as it seemed fitting for the type of goddess I had in mind. I had originally thought to put some shapeshifting in the mix but decided against it.

Actually, there's a Champion of Ishtar in the Paranet Papers preview (take THAT, alliteration!).

I've got an NPC who's built like that, a Knight of Athena. Mostly I gave her a sponsored magic, and Guide My Hand.
