It's listed both in the powers that grant the slots (p180-182), and on p278.

1 Focus slot = 2 Enchanted Item slots. Potions are just dedicated Enchanted Item slots.

But if you tie refresh to the time you're playing, that makes it easier for everyone to use it to their full potential. They know they can throw it all out when you're half an hour away from the time you usually end the session, which in turn will mean they will do more cool stuff with it and not just horde them because they don't know when they will get more.

Exactly! Had I not been writing my last post from a phone, I'd have elaborated with this point! Always make sure the players feel secure enough about getting FPs that they're willing to spend FPs rather than hoard them. Decoupling Refresh from Milestones is a probably fairly common house rule to that effect.

There's absolutely no problem decoupling refresh and milestones. A milestone should be when something of significance to the story has happened and there's some time to reflect on it; a Refresh happens when there's time to catch your breath a bit. One might absolutely happen without the other :p

The expectation of the rules is that one session = a minor milestone.

Given the steady flow of pledges over the last several days, I have complete confidence that we'll reach both Mouse and the Peace Talks preview even before the last two-day rush.

In fact, I'm getting very curious about what the next set of stretch goals is going to be. That preview sets a pretty high standard!

I'm completely uninterested in the crossover character deck, but figure that if it brings up the game on the radar of a few Sentinels players the extra reach can only benefit. This kind of KS lives and dies by its reach - not a lot of individual backers will go above ~$70, so the primary way to reach higher is getting the word out to more people.

Of course, they can't water it down by adding a bunch of crossover/non-Dresden stuff, but one character among 13 if we reach Mouse (which I have no doubt at all we will do) isn't really dilluting it much.

DFRPG / Re: Who can death curse?
« on: April 28, 2016, 08:27:55 PM »
What I meant was that someone taking you out gets to decide how you are no longer part of that conflict. If they choose that you die, you get to throw your death curse as you always own your death scene. If they dictate that you're knocked out, you don't actually get automatically get to say "I launch my death curse instead". The situation might be such that you could, but it's not necessary by either source fiction or rules.

If you chose to death curse (as a concession for instance), then yes, of course your character is killed. (Even though that might not mean the character is completely gone; for a superb example of a mechanic-light, narratively masterful death curse, have a look at the climax of Haru's PbP Cradle of Darkness! Link is of course very spoilery for the story, I recommend reading it in full instead.)

Most death curses are not continuous effects, Maggie's is explicitly practically unique in its longevity. Most, even from very old and experienced wizards, are immediate and very violent, since the circumstances of their use usually don't leave terribly much time to consider more complex options and once emotions tend to lean toward direct, retaliatory action.

While the Free Will-aspect is interesting, the only non-mortal suspected of being capable of a death curse is Mavra, and BCV are specifically by WoJ on the very low end of free will.

I agree with practically everything but the last sentence. Partly based on Harry preparing to unleash his death curse on Grevane when about to be killed by Morgan, and partly how he talks about the death curse at other times, you can direct it however you want; it's just that "the bastard that's killing me!" tends to be the primary thing on a dying wizard's mind.

(Also, tiny thing: you get a death curse if Taken Out and the victor chooses Death as the result! Taken Out =/= Death.)

I think we might get around the VAT in this case since they'll import it to UK first, but I'm not sure... (Fellow swede here ;) )

Yeah, they're importing the shipment to the UK, then shipping it from there :p

The Kickstart is not going to produce more than these three expansions. There might be more coming after the game is actually published, but SmF/TC with Ramirez and Luccio is the last for now.

And Haru - where are you located? Most of EU will cost $20 shipping (that's what mine will cost), so Base Game + 3 x Expansion + Shipping will be ~$90. Not too violent for a boardgame even if I'm unsure if I can afford the expansions, since I'm unemployed....

Have you read Cold Days? Because in it, several details regarding Outsiders and the Outer Gates are revealed; among them the fact that the gates are a lot less metaphorical than most wizards know.

Basically, if you're doing a "skill replacement" ritual, you don't need to give yourself a speed power - you just establish how hard the end result is. Basically, how many shifts to travel around the world.

If you want to go with a ritual granting powers, it's rather a questions of what powers would you need in addition to the speed. I'd probably say Wings (levitation, flying Superman-style, whatever) and Recovery of some stripe (for the "Fatigue isn't an issue" function, as you'll still take a while), and then "just" add duration.

There is of course a way to fulfill the demanded lap around the world in a tricksy way. Unless a lattitude is specified, you could travel to  one of the poles, light the torch, and walk a circle around the pole. There is fundamentally no difference between completing a circuit (sp?) around the 89th parallell or the 5th parallell. Of course, the entity you struck the deal with might be...annoyed...to have been fooled.

As to your mechanical question, I don't think I'd allow any speed power on its own to let you run over a large body of water, let alone an ocean. With something else granting you the ability to actually traverse the distance, a speed power will absolutely cut down on time.

Since I want to appreciate the full story, I started from the beginning.
Four days and four books later, I can confidently say that I'm hooked!

I'll report back in when I'm through Hell Bent, just wanted to let you know I really like your stories! ;)
