DFRPG / start it off with a bang! (your coolest campaign beginnings)
« on: October 17, 2012, 02:41:17 PM »
I'm planning a game for my FLGS and I want to start it with a bang so to speak. So I was wondering, what are your coolest Dresden game beginnings?

DFRPG / Stating Slenderman
« on: August 16, 2012, 01:41:44 PM »
Recently a beta of an indie vidiogame has taken the world of youtube let's players by storm. That game is Slender a relatively short game where you are to find 8 pages scattered in a foggy forest at night. The catch though is that you are being stalked by an entity known as slenderman.

Recently I've been on a kick of watching as many ARG series dealing with this fictional entity. Marble Hornets, EverymanHYBRID, TribeTwelve, and recently I began watching DarkHarvest. Then it struck me, this guy would be an AMAZING Dresden Game Antagonist!

So I pose the question to the DFRPG boards, how would you stat out Slenderman?

And to get you started, here's the Wiki:  http://theslenderman.wikia.com/wiki/Slender_Man

I'll update with my own thoughts later, as I'm posting this on my phone at work. Truely where great thoughts are spawned :P

DFRPG / Quick and Dirty Star Wars Hack
« on: June 10, 2012, 11:49:12 PM »
So, I've had the idea rattling around my head recently... Dresden could be pretty damned simple to use for a Star Wars Game. Here's what I have so far

Skills

Alertness
Athletics
Infiltration - (Burglary renamed, trappings unchanged)
Contacts
Conviction
Craftsmanship
Deceit
Discipline
Pilot - (Driving renamed, trappings unchanged)
Empathy
Endurance
Fists
Blasters - (Guns renamed, trappings unchanged)
Intimidation
Investigation
Lore
Might
Performance
Prescence
Rapport
Resources
Scholarship
Stealth
Survival
Weapons

All characters start with 7 refresh and 25 skill points with a skill cap at Great (+4) (I generally don't want characters to start out as super badass Jedi, or the best Bounty Hunters in the galaxy)

Force Sensitivity
Force Sensitive characters will need to buy the following Power:

Force Sensitivity [-1]
You are tapped into the power that binds the Galaxy together.
You must have an aspect that conveys that you are Force Sensitive.
You must have this power to buy the Alter, Sense, or Control powers.

Alter [-2]
   See YW181: Ritual [-2]

Control [-2]
   See YW181: Channeling [-2]

Sense [-2]
Due to your Force Sensitivity you are able to perceive the galaxy in a way normal Sentients are unable to. Gain an additional +1 when you invoke your aspect dealing with your Force Sensitivity.
Additionally you always possess an additional +2 to Alertness and Empathy rolls due to your supernatural perception.

Stunts
Stunt creation is unchanged.

See YW145, Chapter 9.

Species
Races generally do not have much of a mechanical benefit (there are always exceptions to the rule though).

You MUST, however, tie your character’s Species into AT LEAST one Aspect. (maybe replace the Template idea from Dresden with Species)

As for Dark Side corruption, I feel the Lawbreaker aspect/power combo works just fine for it. Rename it to "Dark Side Corruption" and call it a day.

I am, however, looking for a good "general" (as in without the pretty dresdenified accents) Dresden styled Character Sheet. (or a good Sci-Fi sheet that has the 3 stress tracks Dresden has)

DFRPG / Out of print?
« on: June 11, 2011, 12:44:04 AM »
So, my friendly local gaming/comic store is having a 24 hour Game day next weekend, and I mentioned to my buddy that works there that I was interested in running a DFRPG demo there (specifically Night Fears, and may be Neutral Grounds, and if there's time/interest a demo of my own I've been working on) So in preparation He goes and tries to get a few more copies through Alliance so people can pick up the book if they end up liking the system. Problem though, Alliance tells them It's out of print?

So I ask you, oh lords of the DFRPG interwebs, wazzup with that?

DFRPG / Your funny moments playing the DFRPG
« on: October 04, 2010, 10:10:58 PM »
I'm GM'ing a Dresden Files RPG game set in the Groton, New London, Norwich area of Southeastern Connecticut.

I have 4 players: Franklin a Supernatural Hostage Negotiator (Pure Mortal), Beorn a Werebear Shop Teacher, Terry a Vampire Hunter/Warden for the White Council of Wizards, and Rank a Homeless Minor Talent (he has Mana Static, and he RP's it to be a really potent version. Like can't ride the bus potent.)

The players become embroiled with a Necromancer and a shadowy Immortal mad scientist who are releasing a drug dubbed "Three Eye" (yes, blatant Storm Front ripoff, but it's such a neat idea) on the streets of Southeastern Connecticut. In an effort to find the Necromancer's hideaway they stumble upon the remnants of a drug bust and find themselves a fireproof safety lock-box. It happens to be warded with a spell that will heat the outside of the lock-box gradually whenever it is moved. So Rank, crawling around in a hidden crawlspace in this ransacked house kicks it with his boot, causing the rubber of the boot to melt to the box. He takes off the boot and uses the boot, now firmly melted to the box, to move it without getting burned. Beorn goes downstairs and detaches the tank of the toilet and brings it upstairs. Rank then places the box into the porcelain tank, picks it up, and promptly walks out of the house. The rest of the crew follow.

Now with rank's Mana Static he can't very well ride in anyone's car. So he decides to carry the thing himself. So with the rest of the players following behind Rank walks through Downtown New London (in broad daylight no less) carrying a toilet tank with a lock-box inside and his boot visibly sticking out from the top. Every ten minutes or so the ward on the box in the tank causes the tank to get too hot so Rank would drop the thing and yelp.

It may have been something you had to be at the table to really appreciate but we were DYING of laughter.

DFRPG / Ideas for a denarian's name.
« on: September 12, 2010, 08:30:26 AM »
So I'm going to be running my first DFRPG game in a couple of days and find myself in need of a name of one of the Fallen for a BBEG and maybe a neat form for them.
