DF Spoilers / Re: Harry following in his mothers footsteps (BG Spoilers)
« on: October 08, 2020, 06:10:28 PM »
I wouldn't be surprised if not only Elaine came back into the mix, but if the underground warlocks all come out (who haven't committed unjustified murder) to have Harry's back in whatever dust up comes about with the White council.

Now here's a different train of thought.  Harry is now promised to Lara....Could it be that Margaret LeFay was promised to Lord Raith in the same way?  Thinking on it, Margaret could have uncovered the white council secrets, was outcasted, and ran to Mab for assistance.  Raith could have loved her the way Tomas loves Justine, but it was not returned as she loved a mortal, hence the entropy curse.  I've only thought about this due to the back and forth between McCoy and Mab on top of the mini castle.

Maybe Harry is following more in his mother's footsteps then we know.

DF Books / Re: Release TIME of Battlegrounds Audiobook?

I'm sure you guys already got the audiobooks, but just want to point out what I've noticed.  If you use Audible, tends to release at Midnight in your timezone (Guessing if you are ahead time zone wise than the US, you may not see it until the following day).
Play books on Android tends to release it at midnight Eastern time, and everyone else has access to it at the same time (Im in the Pacific Standard Time Zone, and my book was downloadable at 9pm Monday).

You know how the books normally have to go into detail and build up to get to the chaos?  Yeah, Peace Talks was the build up, outside the first 7 or 8 chapters, the rest of the book is the battle.  Picture the Chichen Itza battle from Changes an entire book.  Pretty much what he does here.

I'm looking for to:
More Santa Clause
Seeing what tidbit of information Harry figures out to shed the winter knight mantle on Halloween (though I see this more as an end game item, after the outsiders are dealt with)
Some more info around Mac

I have a friend who absolutely despises them because, according to him, the firearms information is all wrong.  I don't know firearms that well - it was fine for me.  Anyway, Reacher is almost a less realistic character than Dresden, even given Dresden's magic.  But I had fun.

As A firearms instructor, I want to read them just for that.  =D
This is a common occurrence with many novels I've read.  I stopped holding it against them.

DF Books / Outside the realm of magic
« on: September 20, 2018, 05:55:51 PM »
I know quite a few people have asked about alternatives, and some of the titles listed are great.  I'm noticing a trend though, that they all tend to fall in the realm of magic.  Anyone have a favorite outside of the spell flinging realm?

Me personally I like a change up along the lines of post apocalyptic (I blame the video game: The Last of Us).  The Mountain Man by Keith C. Blackmore has been a fun and interesting read for me (free audio short on audible; or at least there was).

I'm still looking for a solid horror novel set to get into.  Any suggestions?

I'm surprised none have followed in their father's shoes....considering how much time has past.

DF Books / Re: Shape Changing

Therianthropy is the art of shape-shifting, and per the Dresden wiki, some Native American Shamans had this ability (e.g. Injun Joe).  I would there would have to be more then one shaman out there.  If Bigfoot gets rolled into one of the major stories books instead of a short story, I think you may come across another 1 or 3.

Guessing it was a typo.  Sounds like someone mixed up Carlos and Susan during editing =)
Don't remember Susan being apart of that sequence.

DF Books / Re: The Growing Time Gap in DF Releases
« on: August 11, 2018, 04:53:35 PM »
I'm aware of the titles, and have given thought in the past to reading them.  But they are trilogies taking place in an established world.  But the story lines are self contained stories in an open universe.  The backstory is completed in a trilogy, although other books exist in the same Universe.

Reason I picked out particular titles for you to read.  They are all part of the same story, that keeps growing and just like early Harry Potter, you can put them down after each trilogy and be content, or continue on (With Rowling, the first 3 books read as individuals with simpler endings. It's not until the fourth book that you realize the larger game is afoot). Second generations was suggested so you understand some of the back story going into the final book.
Just food for thought if you are looking for a good story that is intertwined throughout two series to help pass some time.

However as a challenge, I suggest you show me a series configured the way Jim is doing the Dresden Files, that was completed.  If you can, I'll go buy all of them.  It will keep me busy.  I'm bored.  Normally long series with one protagonist have no ongoing back story woven into the narrative that is central to the main storyline and remains uncompleted until the final book.  You may have better knowledge than I do though.

Can always delve (if you have not) into the Dragon Lance Chronicles.  Dragons of Autumn Twilight is the first of the series, and avoid reading Dragons of Summer Flame until you have read the following:
Legends Trilogy
Follow up with:
The Second Generation
Once you have those under your belt, then you can read DoSF.  Can also read all about the lore, heroes of old, races....needless to say, you will have plenty to read up on.
Also, DoAT came out in 1984; so plenty of used copies you can find everywhere.  When I left my original set with my brother as a farewell gift, I bought the first 30 books for $20 at goodwill.

Just want to add, while it's not as intricate as a spiderweb as Butcher does with Dresden, the books do constantly chain off one another getting you to explore more and more.

Once Dresden is done, will you bring some-thing/one else to life, or enjoy yours for a spell?

For tidbits of info, or just more from JB, can always follow him on reddit:

Dresden files is by far my favorite series, but I also understand the author is human and has other commitments.  As Ananda states, he has to take advantage of his status, and I do not blame him for that.  Also, you said it yourself, he has been hammering books out since 2000...Think that earns him a break.
Plenty of other fantastic series out there to pass the time with; and/or can always reread the dresden series.  I audio book them while in rush hour traffic, which I have to say James Marsters is a pretty kick ass story teller.

I'm a huge fan of the Dresden series, but have to admit, the comments on people getting upset because the book isn't out is comical.

Guess people forget that an Author has a life, and when it needs attention the job goes on hold.
Also, with so many book series out (he has two others), why are you not exploring other avenues?

While I would love to continue in the Dresden World, I am glad he isn't falling in with what Hollywood does so well....rush production to give us a half ass piece of work....which makes people bitch even more.

Really people, coming onto his boards and crying that it's not out yet...grow up.
