Thanks for the info. I figured the basic schedule would be posted on the DFWcon web site. I guess you have to attend or buy a pass in advance to get the schedule.

I plan on going to the Con for 1 day (on my day off) and spend a good portion of the day there. I have not been to Cons before. The main thing is to meet the two authors Butcher and Weber. Is there a listing of a specific time each will be available to talk and to and sign stuff? What is Filking? I don't expect them to do a 16 hour shift at a desk. It will also be great to meet others who love the books and discuss them. The Hotel is pretty nice with a big open atrium area with a very high ceiling and the suites are large. They do have some meeting rooms also. I live in the area and know some good restaurants nearby, so I can help some out of towners hit something other than McDonalds or Dennys to eat at. There is an OK chinese buffet down the block from the hotel and Pappasito's TEX-MEX Rest is great and Bone Daddy's House of Smoke BBQ is great, both a couple miles away, and A decent Bennihana's Japanese Stakehouse nearby.

There are a couple of other hotels in the area.

Um, Chiana. Most people don't come here on PURPOSE unless they ski or are on the way to Canada.
You know that!
Silly. Imagine, promoting BOOKS in Maine. Everyone knows most Mainers don't read! Geez!

Is that why Stephen King lives there? To get away from his fans?

I'm just gunna sleep in my car.

They have a Best Western a block or two away for $45 a night on Hotels.com. It's not as nice as the Crown but beats sleeping in a car.

I am not allowed to ask my Faire godmother for a nice tux and ride to the next formal shindig.
Even if I only ask her to make the Beetle a little better, because even if it is the Bettle she will turn me into a pumpkin or turn the Bettle into a real Bettle.

I am also not allowed to suggest a good Faire godmother to murphy if she hooks up with Kinkaid, Lucio if we have a kid, or Thomas if he has a kid.

It would be funny if Harry asked Lea to turn his Beetle into a Maybach. She would likely give him the pumpkin.

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?
« on: September 21, 2008, 04:47:01 PM »
I found Dredan Files on iTunes. It was the free download of the week. After that - I was hooked. I was SO BUMMED when it was cancelled. Later on, I wondered into a Christian based sci-fi chat room (don't ask), and I had asked if anyone had watched Dresden Files. About three of them stated they hadn't heard of the tv show, but they were frantic fans of the book. So - I went on a witch hunt to find them and eventually just went to Amazon. I'm only on the second book and I've already let 2 of my buds borrow Storm Front.

This is such a fun series!

Just wait till you read books 3 and 4, Grave Peril and Summer Knight, they are great and the series really takes off. The series story arc starts to be filled in and you start seeing the greater series story behind the individual book stories. Read them in order for maximum enjoyment.

No, we'll be wearing name tags that say "Panelist." :D

I've never been to a scifi/fantasy convention before. What do Panelists do? I'm guessing they help organize things to fend off the chaos. From what I've read in your bio from the ConDFW site you are originally from Dallas so welcome back and hope you get time to see old friends and family.

I too will have to make the trip to Dallas, though I try not to venture past Loop 12 if I don't have to

The Hotel is outside of Loop 12, in fact it is just north of 635 LBJ and West of 75 Central Expressway.

Priscilla and I will be there.

We will be...hard to miss.

Ahem.

(Fred can't make it, as he has a Thou Shalt Not Miss game design con that weekend)

Will you be wearing the the: I'm an Authority Figure or the I'm an Innocent Bystander name tag?  You could wear one and Priscellie wear the other.

Actually, it would be funny for Harry to hang near Larry Fowler and curse Larry's stuff like fry his car, cell phone, home electronics etc. Harry could veil himself and make Larry's life a living hell. Kind of like what Harry did to Madrigal in Proven Guilty at the Splattercon.

Harry can't sing the song, "You can do Magic" to Luccio.

Karaoke is OK if the person can sing halfway in tune. I was stationed in Korea and there were legions of people who killed songs. What is the deal with east Asians and Karaoke? It is like Americans and fast food.

I don't think "But I was trapped in a time vortex!" would fly with the nice police officer asking why she was drinking when the date on her driver's license gives her two years to go. :D

Molly's good with illusions. She could make her driver's license date appear to change to another date like the Doctor's psychic paper. Actually Jim is much better than most authors in consistency. It is nearly impossible writing so many books not to make a few errors. Do apprentices get to take their WC wizard trials at a minimum age such as 21 or when their master feels they are ready?
