What about "elastic band" or just band or just elastic? Or right below the eyelet trim on my just-purchased "Insert fake brand name here" bra?

Just trying to get away from the t.v. forums. Dropping back into lurk status.

My opinion about DRM- the harder you make something to copy, the more determined folks are to do it. I respect the rights of people who create, but one day, I hope there can be something better done to protect creative works.

I'd like to hear what the influences are for the way magic works in the series.  Is it totally made up?  Connected with current or past occult practices (there seem to be some similarities to some things I've read)?  RPG magic or magic from novels or folklore?  MUDs?  Comics?  Also, what are the influences for the faith component?  What are Jim's personal beliefs w.r.t. the supernatural?

Bill

I like this suggestion. Maybe just a list of books that Jim says influenced him, even.

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?

I had lost my way as a reader, having been and SF/Fantasy fan as a teenager.  I was reading chick lit, biographies and occasional history books. I saw the previews and Harry just looked cool. I actually read the third book first.

I know it sounds weird, but I've been let down before by authors who had terrific first books, then the next ones were just not quite there. I have to say Harry gets better with every book. (and they were really good to start with.)

Sorry for posting late in this discussion, but I have a couple of thoughts.
I'd like to do something with the whole "Blackstaff" title.

I also like the quote about t-rex's not cornering well--that's a fun one,

And I think a Charity-themed shirt might be fun. What do you think? Any ideas?
