DFRPG / Character Templates for Review
« on: November 29, 2017, 01:17:39 AM »
So, came up with two concepts for a campaign concept I am working on, and want opinion/suggestions on the from the community. Thanks

Child of the Armageddon

A Child of the Armageddon is one who carries the taint of Darkness (be it demons, Outsiders, Hell, etc) within their blood. This taint is passed down through the generations from parent to child. This taint endows the Child with an extraordinary power, however, the ability to absorb the power(s) of any Supernatural Being touched.

Musts
High Concept Must include your tainted nature (ex: Child of the Armageddon Detective, or Demon Tainted Cop)

Powers:
(-Varies) Mimic Abilities (note, as a Child is not a shapeshifter, they suffer a hunger track similar to that of a Vampire (as noted below). )
(+1) Feeding Dependency (Powers):  At the end of a scene where a Child takes the powers and/or skills of another, or uses already acquired powers, they suffer an attack equal to the number of refresh taken, resisted by their discipline. Instead of a loss of powers, however, failure to deal with any stress overflow results in 1 free compel on the character per stress not absorbed.

Important Skills: None
Minimum Refresh Cost (-Varies)
From the Casefiles: Shannara Chronicles Season 2

Fiction
A fiction is exactly what is sounds like, a being formed from the imagination of a mortal. In reality, a fiction is actually a Spirit being, that has manifested a physical form based on inspiration drawn from a mortal mind. However, once the form is taken, the Being is, for all intents and purposes, the fictional character who the Spirit appears to be (ex: A Fiction of Captain James T. Kirk, IS Captain James T. Kirk physically and mentally). The Fiction does retain knowledge of who it truly is, but they will not admit this to anyone, though they do go out of their 3way to fit in (meaning Captain Kirk will blend in, not run around asking where his starship is, or shooting random people with his phaser.) While fictions can be beings out of fantasy (Halflings, dragons, etc) the spirits involved tend to prefer modern and science fiction beings to become.

Musts
High Concept Must include fictional nature (ex: Fiction Security Guard or Fiction Soldier)

Powers:
All powers are based on the character the fiction is, with the exceptions below. Most powers will manifest as Objects of Power (with only the first one getting the refund as per the rules)
Human Form (+1)
Swift Transition with No Mortal Home (-1)

Important Skills: None
Minimum Refresh Cost (-Varies)

Just wondering if a Glamour or Greater Glamor would show up as real on a Camera or such?

DFRPG / Refreshing FATE Points
« on: May 03, 2016, 07:39:52 PM »
So, while bored at work with time to kill I've been looking over various DFRPG resources and such online. While reading through this one site that calls itself a DFRPG Workshop (http://www.myth-weavers.com/wiki/index.php/LearnDresdenFilesRPG) I came across this statement regarding refresh
Quote
He started with 10 Refresh, and I spent 7 of them on Mortal Stunts and Supernatural Powers (he's the son of a Titan, he needed some pizzazz!). That leaves him with an Adjusted Refresh (the refresh remaining) of 3. At every Milestone, assuming he's spent his FP below 3, he would be granted enough FP to bring him to 3 for the start of the next chapter or adventure.

Now, I THOUGHT Fate points refreshed every session, not every milestone. Am I correct or is this GM? Because if they refreshed every milestone, that would make compels MUCH more important to players

DFRPG / Demons - Where'd the topic go?
« on: July 31, 2013, 05:05:42 PM »
I remember seeing a topic here that had statted demons form other systems - Balrog from LOTR, Marilith from D&D, etc. I thought it was in the Resources section, but, can;t seem to find it. Did it get removed or does anyone know where I can find it (or at least the information that was contained within it?)

Thanks

DFRPG / Query 2: Incite Emotion
« on: May 29, 2013, 02:33:24 PM »
Kept this seperate from my other question, for clarity sake.

Anyhow, Incite Emotion. What exactly does it do? Incite Emotion:Lust. Is it only a maneuver ability? How would one ustilize it as an attack?

And more importantly, how is it utilized in Grave Peril, when Thomas forces the Nightmare-possessed Lydia to forgo anything but wanting to get it on with him?

DFRPG / Query: How does Mind Fog ACTUALLY work?
« on: May 29, 2013, 02:31:04 PM »
OK, so, I ran my players up against a Mind Fog spell the other night, mostly as a means of dealing wiht a bunch of faceless NPCs. It never really hit the PCs, but it did bring up a question from one of my players later. How does it do anything more to a person than place an aspect on them, which can then be tapped for a measly +2?

Am I missing something here? Does the spell deliver Mental damage in addition to the aspect?

DFRPG / Social Combat During Physical Combat
« on: April 22, 2013, 06:18:26 PM »
One of my players has posed a question thta I am not sure of. They're character is primarily a Social character, with few physical combat abilities. Now, they have been using social maneuvers to place aspect during physical conflicts, but want to do more. What they asked was can they initiate Social Combat on a target, while a physical combat is already in progress? Now, it seems a little odd to me for the Supermodel in the group to suddenly start taunting the Ogre and telling him how uneducated he is to cause him to flee, but, it also seems possible.

Any ideas/suggestions?

DFRPG / Blocking access to the Nevernever
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:49:57 PM »
I got a real problem question posed by one of my players. Twice now, one of my villains has conceded by fleeing back through the Nevernever, escaping the clutches of the PCs. The wizard in the group wants to prevent this, and find a way, thaumaturgically most likely, to block someone's access ot the Nevernever. Is this possible? And if so, anyone know how to handle it?

Thanks

DFRPG / Pure mortal question
« on: December 01, 2012, 10:15:19 PM »
Got a real poseur from one my players. They're looking at making a pure mortal, but we're wondering if he takes an item of power does he lose the pure mortal bonus to his refresh

DFRPG / Pure Mortals and Objects of Power
« on: December 01, 2012, 07:50:28 PM »
OK, my campaign is finally starting to gear up towards starting and one of my players is making a Pure Mortal. Question I have for all of you though is, can he take an Object of Power and still keep the Pure Mortal bonus or does taking an IOP make the character not a Pure MOrtal anymore? Thanks

DFRPG / Keeping Wizard PCs from overshadowing non-Wizard PCs
« on: August 03, 2012, 08:13:51 PM »
My NYC Campaign is beginning to form up. Or at least the concepts are. My group is looking at another 6 months of the Pathfinder Campaign were in nwo, then my Dresden Game rolls in. Anyhow, here's what I'm looking at so far for characters by their High Concepts:
Prophisized "Angel" Daughter of Aphrodite (Yep, she's a halfblood Victoria's Secret Supermodel with a prophecy about her)
Veteran War Wizard Looking for a Cause (Player is angling for a wizard not happy with the Council's choices, looking for something to fight for other than just survival. My game is while the Vampire War is still going on)
Red Court Infected ex-CTU Agent (Sorta Jack Bauer as a Infected. Mercenary for hire now)
Clueless Scion of Tymora ('Luckiest' person on Earth. Drawbacks though. Using powers has a hunger track, where he must take the luck form those around them, ie putting an aspect of bad luck temporarily on someone, not always a PC, for each hunger box)
Only Daughter of the Leananshide (Need I say more?)

My concern is this. How do I keep the Wizard form solving every problem with Thaumaturgy? Need information, summon a demon and bargain for info, or summon a LOA? Looking for someone, tracking spell. etc.

Just looking for some advice here

DFRPG / Question about last 2 phases of Character Creation
« on: October 03, 2011, 02:03:17 AM »
OK, if I am understanding correctly, players write the story synopsis for their last two adventures, then they get randomly given to 2 other players, 1 who guest stars in each one. No aspects though are gained by the "Main Character" of thiese stories, correct? You only gain aspects for the last two phases from the stories you guest star in, correct?

I'm beginning the ground work on a DFRPG campaign. However, it won;t be complete by the books Dresdenverse, as I am already merging in the Percy Jackson novels, as well as the Buffyverse. Anyhow, I'm working on my new Character templates to supplement those of the Base game and would appreciate the community's review of them. I'll post the first one shortly. I have also decided to work up many of the NYC locations for my group and when the campaign starts, let them just work on 1 or two they'd like to add, so, I'll probably be posting them along with NPC's here as well.

2/1/12 - Seeing as how alot has been posted here already, will try to use this initial posting to list everything for easy access so those poking their heads in here can see what is hidden in this post.

4/27/12 - Obsidian Portal site up, and all information will be posted there from now on, except for things I need opinions/reviews/help on :) Site is http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/shadows-over-new-york/wikis/home-page

DFRPG / The Autumn Court
« on: September 14, 2010, 06:49:48 PM »
Just a crazy thought I latched onto reading through the DFRPG books, but, what if the Autumn Court became the Elves of cintra 9aka the elves of Terry Brooks' Shannara series)? The Autumn Court no longer exists, because they became mortal, turning their back on Faerie and their magic (as Brooks suggests his elves did) to protect the world from the 'demons' inside the Ellcrys?

This leaves a few interesting questions:

1) If there was an Autumn Court, what happeend to the Spring Court? And where did they fit in in regards to the stone Table?

2) What are the 'Demons' behind the forbidding, and why would the Autumn Court give up ebing Faerie to contain them?

3) How do winter and Summer view these 'fallen' bretheren?

DFRPG / Other Sources for DFRPG Characters/Plots/etc
« on: July 26, 2010, 07:16:59 PM »
Well, I just got my DFRPG books, and when I can get myself to read the rules rather than the comments, I am impressed (Sorry, the whole Dresden, Will, Bob thing is just too funny!  ;D)

Anyhow, I wish this game had eben released a year ago, as I am now running a d20 Modern game that it owuld have been perfect for. Anyhow, reading through the rules and such has convinved me the next time I use the current game's universe, it will be DFRPG.

First a little background, so you all can see where I am coming from. The original campaign concept was a group of supernatural/alien characters are recruited by a mysterious government agency to investigate a series of murders in a Dresden/Buffy style Universe. Yes, I said Aliens and Supernatural in the same sentence  :D The beginning group consisted of:
White Council Mage
Immortal (Highlander Type)
Cerean(Lizard from original V miniseries) Psionisist
Founder (shapeshifter from DS9)
White Court Vampire
Harrowed(Deadlands) Hexslinger
Pure Mortal Non-believer

As you can see, I did borrow form many sources. And seeing how my main protagonists of the group is the denarians, Dresden is where I borrowed from the most. The group has had to deal with summoned demons, Shanarran Elves (aka Terry Brooks' elves) and other things.

Anyhow, the entire purpose of this post is what other sources could be imported into a DFRPG withough destroying it's flavor?

Some of the ideas I've had that would be perfect, perhaps with some tweaking would be:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (even if there was a reference or two to the show in the books)
Knights of the Word (Terry Brooks)

Your thoughts?
