DF Spoilers / Re: Projections: Time Travel Moving Forward
« on: April 05, 2018, 12:10:03 AM »
One book that changes they way we see many events throughout the series. I want to see how early cases were going from outside Harry's POV. I want to see how bad things would have been if any of his cases went the other way. Like what would have happened if he hadn't stopped Victor Sells and the 3 Eye went nation wide, if the FBI went furry vigilante, or if Bianca's plan had worked out better for her. The most obvious would be to go back to PG and fix the intentional plot holes. But I would love to see more of Bianca's plan or the powers that started Victor or Denton down their path of twisting intentions.

Actual prediction: one book that follow the TL of most of the series, elucidating the motivations of many players without giving away too much. Late in the series, probably after the wrestling one, which will give us a look back at the series as a whole, in a way that Mirror Mirror gives us Dresden but for a small difference a la It's a Wonderful Life.

Cinder Spires Books / Re: Various crystals
« on: November 24, 2017, 03:17:47 PM »
The crystals seem to differentiate based on function. I never noticed any mention of needing a power crystal to utilize a weapon crystal.  However since they can be drained completely, as demonstrated by Ferrus, I assume they store energy and release it. So perhaps they need to be recharged, similar to reloading a modern firearm, but there is no mention of a power crystal along with a weapons crystal in a gauntlet setting. We know that contact with a lumen or weapon crystal is required but there is no mention of needing a power crystal.

I fall in the earth colony on foreign planet camp. The structures were designed to fit with the planet as part of the terra-forming plan. However the new planet and the terra-forming tech didn't mesh as planned, maybe the ether caused malfunctions, maybe the ether is a kinda of planet based consciousness, whatever; badness ensues and the colonists realize its gonna take more time than originally planned. However a space faring people would certainly be capable of maintaining orbit, perhaps with a majority of the crew in some type of stasis. I propose that the archangels are ships that leave either a mother ship or satellite and go planet side checking out the progress of the terra-forming. The humans are descendants of custodians that have forgotten their purpose or survivors that took shelter in the structures as the rest fled back to Heaven.

DF Spoilers / Re: Lara-Nemesis-Oblivion War
« on: June 27, 2017, 04:06:25 PM »
What if the only things that are subject to the Oblivion war are things of the DV. Outsiders wouldn't get elimnated but any Dark Horror dreamed up by man could thus be erased, letting the focus return the real problem. These would/could have been around as far back as man feared the dark and its unknown terrors. If it happens to be an Outsider inspired eldritch that crossed into the DV plane of the MV it simply gets shunted back, not destroyed.

DF Spoilers / Re: The Mothers' Cottage and Earth...

Why? There is, literally, twice as much land area in the northern hemisphere. That could easily lead to Fomor having more power in the southern hemisphere by simply reducing the power available to the Fae.

DF Spoilers / Re: Are the Mothers immune to iron?

I like to think that Mother Winter is just so badass/powerful that despite being just as vulnerable to Iron as any other Faerie, she keeps some in her mouth as a statement. "I use my own personal Kryptonite as Dentures, you want some of this?"
^^^
Plus as basically a personification of death; she is also death for the fae as well which iron teeth symbolize nicely.

DF Spoilers / Re: How Harry would do the Dark Hallow in Changes wag
« on: June 06, 2017, 10:19:41 PM »
Since we know Harry can do magic in his mind the paralysis isn't an obstacle. I assumed he would go Mab, Lash then DH only if the first 2 said no. Nic has already offered to help Harry end the Reds. So the Coin route, to me, would be accepting Lasciel and then several Fallen Angels go save a little girl. The DH is the least like Harry.

But I would bargain with Lea to get me to CI then start the ritual and eat the thousands and thousands of dead that have been killed by the Reds at CI over the millennia. Then smite.

I see the air battles more like sub marine warfare. There is not need to move forward to create lift, which is very crucial to dogfight tactics. I would look to see if there are any RPGs that have mechanics for subs, prolly set around WWII.

DF Books / Re: with jb's mixing of all kinds of mythologies

I haven't noticed any obvious high fantasy Elves or Dwarves. That may be a later reveal. Or the Summer Sidhe could simply be the inspiration. Nymphs, satyrs, centaurs all are Summer. If you mean more like DnD the closest is maybe the Svartalves as Drow.

Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Olympia

He's a Commodore in a Merchant Co. He may not be at an official social event. Then again, the Spirearch hardly used Gwen, Bridget, Rowl, Grimm and Benedict openly last time.

But I agree, I certainly expect to see Commodore Pine and his, no doubt, equally doughty crew again.

I've been making the same assumption that he crashed. My thinking is mostly a crash since  the distance is so short.  I doubt there is a spire that close to Albion. Plus if I was mounting an expedition through hostile territory I would warn the endpoint of said expedition since they will be on guard for dangers. Why even involve a different Spire in such an expedition? increasingly large circles around the base of your home spire would increase security and info without the risk of supply lines being cut. I suppose a ship could have dropped them off just a few miles away to test a route or travel method, but then I would expect that ship to offer support. Sure Com. Pine seems pretty bad ass but why walk when you can fly? Safer and faster.

As to the scene you enjoyed at The Black Horse, I find calling the Gwen and Co.(aka Brits) "bloody Albion fussbothers" very Aussie to me. Plus all the "bloody"s. It could just be the Albion influence but the language similarity could easily be the analogous to the Britain and Australia. His familiarity with Silkweavers could just be his history as a Capt, or it could be similar to Australia's denser than avg population of deadly animals.

I don't have the book with me, and its been a while since I've read it, but in the scene where the main etherialist is trying to get drunk, the Olympian whose rooms they took comes in and the etherialist says something along the lines of, "He seems possessed by a great fury, which if you know your history is quite amusing." This is my favorite basis for an argument saying that this is Alera + some thousands of years.
While it is certainly conceivable, I see the Olympians being very Greek like, especially with all the dark wood and marble decor and laurel wreath emblem. The Pikers live on a peak and seem vaguely Celtic/Norse. Albion and Aurora seem analogous to England and Spain. If this were indeed Alera millennia later I would expect a lot more Latin and German influences. But it is intentionally a mystery so *shrug*

Thanks. I'm not good with coding. But your steps seem clear and replicable.

I'm still thinking Christos with all his mysterious past, political control and enough power to be SC. I think his misguided attempts to stop death put him in the Circle camp with Nico and his attempt to become a saint.
