Site Suggestions & Support / Re: What is the deal with multi-posting?
« on: November 04, 2009, 11:20:50 PM »
Could it help to make a distinction between multi-posting when replying to just one post, and multi-posting in response to multiple posts?  I know some people like to use multiple posts to reply to multiple posters because they feel it's more polite.  I don't have a problem with that happening, but I'd be willing to do away with multiple posts that are responding to one post from one person.

I remember once I transposed two letters in myspace and got porn.

I went to Juniata College as an undergrad.  There was a time when juniata.edu took you to the college website and juniata.com took you to a porn site.  I think they've rectified the situation since.

Great cave pictures!  I think I've been to Luray before, but it was when I was younger.

I don't recall it ever being an issue in "developed" caves, but I remember when I used to cave I'd have to hold my breath to take a picture or the flash would reflect off of my breath and the picture would be foggy. :D

p.s. Araneae - I saw you at one point, but I was talking with someone, then when I turned around you were gone.
:D  Same thing.  I saw you, then started talking to someone - and then they called my ticket.  (I kind of bolted from the chair immediately after Jim was done talking, because my chair was a horrific kind of uncomfortable).

It was a really fun event.  I'd never been to any sort of book signing before now.

I'm glad I'm not the only one crazy enough to make a long drive to see Jim.  Hope I get to run into some board members.  (If you see someone with black hair and a Red Court t-shirt it's me.  Say hi or snub me at your discretion  :D

I believe there may be two TGI Fridays in Lexington - one at the Hamburg Pavilion and one by the Fayette Mall.  The one by the mall is the nearest to Joseph Beth.  I think it's on Rojay Drive, something like that.  (It's been about a year since I lived out that way, so a current resident may know better than I do).  There's also an Olive Garden in the same area.

I'm pretty much fine with anywhere.  If I'm picturing the right place TGI Friday's is pretty much right down the way from Joseph Beth.  (There's a whole lot of restaurants right around that area).

I'd be willing to meet up somewhere as well, if there's anything planned.

Barring any unexpected changes in plan, I'm hoping to take a little mini-vacation and come out for this.  (It couldn't have happened a year ago, when I still lived there).
No costume here, either, but I have my homemade Red Court t-shirt.  :)

(Hopefully this won't be like my last trip to KY, when I blew a tire halfway back).

Broken things make great photographs, I love it.

Abandoned junk makes good photographs too.

Occasionally I wonder if there's a market for selling my photos, but I really have no idea how to do it. And there is a lot better stuff out there. I tend to just get lucky.

Have you looked into setting up a store on Etsy?  It's free to have an account although I believe it costs something like 20 cents to post each item and that gets it listed for 4 months.  Once the item sells they take 3.5% of the price.  (That doesn't include shipping - you charge whatever you need to ship it).  It could be a relatively inexpensive way for you to judge what kind of market you'd have.
You can sell photography via CafePress as well, but I think that has more limitations and less profit in the long run.

I used to live in Richmond and am contemplating making the drive out since I'm very familiar with the area and the venue.  It'll be closer to the event until I decide, though.

There's also the option of just making passing mention of other supernatural beings existing - ie. other characters briefly mentioning it in conversation.  That way you don't have to go too in depth at first and heap up too much on the reader and you've also laid some groundwork; if your original story idea becomes more than one book you've got some background to use to introduce other characters.

being over or in flowing water saps his strength
That's a good one that I don't see used in a lot of modern interpretations.  I've always liked it though.  (Empathy I think - I don't like water  :D )
