Calendar Event Discussion / Re: San Diego Comic Con: July 24-27
« on: August 02, 2008, 12:37:05 AM »
Just read a nice write-up about JB that I thought I'd share :)

Quote
...In order to ensure a seat, I jumped into the panel BEFORE 24 just in case there were rabid Jack Bauer fans out there. It turned out that Jim Butcher, author of The Dresden Files, was the guy talking to fans right before Bauer.

I’ve never read a single book in the Dresden series, nor heard much about Butcher, but he was one of the more entertaining personalities I saw at Comic-Con over the course of two days. He sat there by himself, with a meek little editor, in front of hundreds and hundreds of people likely waiting for 24, Prison Break and Avatar, and he made the entire room focus on him for the next hour.

He truly loved his fans that got up to ask questions. He gave detailed and awesome responses, the kind of thing these Comic-Con attendees go nuts over.

It was a pleasant surprise to accidentally walk into an entertaining panel. In fact, I may pick up a copy of The Dresden Files because of it...

I promised this poster that I'd pass on her message and her sincere thank you's to Mr. Butcher, Mr. Wolfe, and to everyone involved in the books and the series. She seems like a sweet lady... :)

I am not a 'little-0l-lady' that has nothing better to do than join a forum and 'chat'. In fact I drive 2 hrs. to work a 12 hr. shift...at night. I tell you this, not because I think it makes me any diffirent than any of you, but just to let you know HOW MUCH I ENJOYED WATCHING Disc 1,2, and 3 of season one that I have just finished viewing, having found, at the video store.
I have spent the last 2 hr.s registering, and being 'found' by registration on my dial up computer, just to
THANK JIM BUTCHER, Paul Blackthorne and the all the actors, directors, camera persons, and all the crew, for this serries.
I don't know how to personally write the 'big-wigs' on line, or Mr. Butcher, but I am a hard working person who thinks you should take the time to thank people for doing great things !
I can't afford the Sci-fi channel, so didn't know Dresden existed!, can't afford high-speed internet, (it costs more when you live out in the country), so can't watch the Podcast, or watch any extras, or write very much...since it takes too long to send and receive.....
But I want to let them know somehow ....that I am facinated with the series, and I'm doing my part to spread the news about it; and will be buying Jim Butchers books that started the series!
Thank you...everyone, especially Jim Butcher, for your facinating immagation, and puting it in print! Can't wait to find more of The Dresden Files at the movie store and get your books!

Diann (Respiratory Therapist) AKA Nashonii

P.S. If anyone can contact Jim directly please forward this letter. Thanks

Thanks for the info.  I'm glad he'd continue with the role.  I think he fits it perfectly, and it doesn't hurt that he's incredibly sexy.  Even my kid thinks so, and she's young enough to think that the idea of a man in his 30's as attractive is "creepy".
Isn't he JUST!!!   ;D

As I've mentioned elsewhere, except for Terry Pratchett, I've never been a big SciFi/Fantasy fan.  My teenaged daughter was the one who made me watch The Dresden Files, and I have to say that I did enjoy it.  I'm sorry that it was cancelled.  I've signed the petition, and am going to buy a drumstick this weekend in hopes that it'll help find the show another home.  The show is very different than the books (which I absolutely love), but it's fun to watch.

Assuming that the show ends up coming back, what will happen with the guy who played Dresden?  I've read that he's got another show on a different station.  Will he come back, or would they have to get someone else?
Paul Blackthorne has a recurring role in Big Shots, but he stated in a recent interview that he 'absolutely' would come back to play Harry. All we have to do is get it back on the air!
Thanks for the signature AND for helping the drumstick campaign!! :)

Heh.

No news.  I'll post here when I hear one way or the other.
It's really cool that you still check in on the forum. I'm choosing to take that as proof that there's still hope for DF, despite the lack of news! :)
Two questions, though: Have you heard whether our efforts in e-mailing, letter-writing, and petioning having actually reached the people we're trying to reach?
And if they HAVE, are they having any effect?
Thanks again for such an excellent show & for taking part on the forum! :)

Thanks to you and the rest of the wizards who made this show a reality, I've discovered an excellent author, read the entire book series and totally enjoyed it, and found something on television that was good enough to stand up & be heard about!  The show is/was spectacular - you & everyone involved made it possible to look forward to Sundays instead of dreading them as the last day before returning to work. THANK YOU!!!
PLEASE let there be a Season 2!! (and if there's anyone else we fans can contact to make it happen, please let us know!)  :)
