DFRPG / Wizard careers?
« on: August 21, 2010, 05:42:38 PM »
I am looking at making a wizard who is a blacksmith/artisan. Using traditional crafts to make jewellery etc and also work as a farrier.

I interested in how you have fitted your wizards into the real world whilst working around hexing? How do they make a living?

DFRPG / Discipline and conviction
« on: August 04, 2010, 09:01:40 PM »
Harry has a higher conviction than discipline, when he casts there may be fall out.

Colour wise in the books wizards with higher discipline have neater spells (the searing beam that Harry could never achieve).

Mechanically in game what is the advantage of high discipline? I can't find anything other than a lesser chance of fallout and you can always limit power to avoid that anyway. Have i missed something?

Old Frisian
Cornish
Sanskrit

DFRPG / How many players and how many wizards?
« on: July 18, 2010, 04:56:46 PM »
So what size group does DFRPG work well with and when does a group get too big?

In addition how many wizards are manageable and how much do wizards hog centre stage?

My impression is (having not played it but played FATE) that 5 characters with a max of 2 wizards in manageable but much more will tend to get harder.

Interested in experiences from those that are running/playing.

DFRPG / Dresdenized Druid
« on: July 18, 2010, 02:35:38 PM »
Hi

We may be playing this in the near future, I think I have convinced a friend to run.

Most likely set in London.

Anyway, I was thinking of playing a wizard with a spin towards druidic magic style. Dresdenfying the druid as the style of 'belief' to drive the magic rather than Harry's more classic fire thrower.

First brainstormed thoughts are:

Gypsy (Romany background)
Mother was a minor talent and father was never known (American serviceman end of WW2?).
Grew up in gypsy camps but moved away (reason?)
Earth, air and spirit for evocation
Spin towards nature magic and gypsy traditions (luck, evil eye, forces of nature, etc)
Wiccan and Celtic symbolism (lots of different woods and stones)
Trouble with faeries

What other things should I think about? Focus item ideas? Limitations?

DFRPG / Are some cities too big? If so how would you ringfence?
« on: June 30, 2010, 05:26:59 PM »
So I live in West London so our city would lead towards London.

But London is really big and really old with lots of potential places of power. It just seems to big for our town to me, I feel it would lose some of the personal atmosphere. What do you think? Is somewhere like London to big?

In addition, if we wanted to limit the game to say our area in West London how would you set boundaries in a story plausible way?
