Title: Finding Specific Posts
Post by: lahodges on May 30, 2006, 07:05:08 AM
Fred,

Is there a way I can see all of the posts that belong to just one person?

Like, Jim?  I tried to pull up his posts from the members section, but it will only let me see his last one.  It says that he has four posts, how can I see them without having to go through every thread looking for them? There are certain people from the list that I like to follow their posts, like Jim, Darla, Chad, you...

Help!

Since Fred's asleep, I did some experimenting.

1. Hit the 'search' icon at the top of the page.
2. Under the search entry window, click on 'Advanced Search'
3. Search for 'and' or some other generic word.  Put 'jimbutcher' in the 'user' window (or whatever other user you want, like 'Iago')
4. Optionally use the radio buttons to limit your search to specific forums.
5. Click 'Search'

And voila!  Pages of posts. :)

Only one real problem.  Often even a word like 'of' might not appear in every post.  I did a search on me and got 17 posts.  The site software says I've made 32.  And it won't hit on partial words.  But it's better than what you had. :)

Er... I just do this:

- Click on 'Home'
- Scroll down
- Click on 'member list'
- Find 'jimbutcher'
- Click on 'jimbutcher'
- Click on 'show the last posts of this person'

I get all four posts that he's made so far. Are others not getting this link or behavior?

That works for jim, but I only get the most recent for Shannon, and the board claims she's made three posts. (unless she deleted her other two).

Odd. I remember trying that earlier, and it only showing the most recent one post. Now, however, it shows them all. Very spiffy. One of the admins change a parameter recently, or am I just on crack?

P.S. It does still only show one post for Shannon. Kind of odd, but if it's a bug, it's probably a bug that started elsewhere.

Shannon has a higher post count because she's posted on a moderators-only board which you don't have access to see. :)

Thanks, Fred!

Last night when I posted, I was only seeing Jim's very last post.  Now I click on it and it shows me all of them. :)

That would explain things.  Thanks Fred.  For the life of me I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.

I'm sure glad that works properly - the search was a tad ... unwieldy. ;)

Is it possible to activate/switch on the option to 'show unread posts' or 'unread replies to your posts' its a useful feature that I use a lot on other boards and miss it :(

Yeah, I already suggested that one :P. I'd be happier using it, too.
