Title: Anyone here dealt with Pro Se Press?
Post by: LizW65 on May 16, 2014, 11:50:02 PM
I recently met a local (fellow Eastern Connecticut) author who has published a few novels through this company; it's a very small publishing house that takes unagented genre manuscripts. She writes mainly High Fantasy, but they also deal in pulp mysteries, Westerns and sci-fi. From what she told me it sounds as though they have their good and bad points, so I was wondering if anyone here has had any experiences with them that they would share.

I suggest checking out "Preditors and Editors" and "Writer Beware,"  they do a pretty good job of compiling problem-houses & agents.

They're not even mentioned on either site. They don't appear to be scam artists, just a very small genre publisher without much influence or $$, though they have done a few conventions (and according to my new friend, the CEO has some issues that can make him difficult to deal with.) I was really hoping for some more personal stories, but I guess they're really really small. ;)

Most of the stuff I've seen over at Absolutewrite says "wait and watch for two years."  (Speaking of which, you could head over to absolutewrite and do a search for that publisher.  Might well be some other authors who've dealt with them.

Next thing is whether or not the CEO's issues are anything you'd be likely to deal with.  Is he an editor, or does he let his chief editor do the heavy lifting?
