DFRPG / Amazing session and Scrying (Through pants)
« on: July 22, 2011, 03:20:42 PM »
So my players are having a first encounter with the big bad, which they brilliantly kept forcing me into corners in order to figure out a way to get him out of it. Manuevers are being thrown around like no ones business and consequences are flying at him. Walls of water, earthquakes, incite emotion with fear of water the works when...

One of my players had the brilliant notion during combat that de-pantsing his foe would break his morale somehow,  ??? Don't ask me why. But I say sure roll it as a maneuver, success, great you slide under him like you're stealing home plate grab him by the crotch and rip his pants off, congrats you now have his pants. It was quite comical at the time.

Later on he escapes and they are separated from him. He still has the pants though, we ended the session but before then he wanted to scry for the big bad... through the crotch of his pants...

So my question is how do you run scrying and are pants a proper medium to be able to scry through?

DFRPG / Undoing WCV effects... Lawbreaking?
« on: May 03, 2011, 06:06:19 PM »
So heres the story, some valley girl npc was possesed by some strange magic that gave her the odd ability to make any kind of lipstick explosive, as in write on a surface with it and kablooey, touch a girls lips and boom etc. The WCV trying to be a good samaritan to this otherwise innocent woman made her fear lipstick to a deathly degree.

Later on her friends with lipstick on try to help her get up after falling, she flails being afraid of the lipstick her friend has on and boom her friends face explodes on contact with her hand.

The wizard now wants to undo the WCV's mental changes and take a different approach... Does this count as messing with her mind though and technically breaking a law? Wizards are usually allowed to dispel another wizard's effects on a person but what if they are mental in nature? Is it still just dispelling or is it now a lawbreaking affair?

DFRPG / AOE Spell manuevers?
« on: March 09, 2011, 02:01:03 PM »
Are these possible? I saw AOE rules for attacking in YS and manuever rules as well, but they never specified if AOE manuevers were possible... IE a grease spell to coat the ground with  slippery oil...or a AOE time slow effect to drop an aspect of slowed on all targets within.

Was this intentionally omitted? Overlooked? Horribly broken?

I don't think it is as long as its a one turn aspect. Paying for duration would have to be reworked though...

DFRPG / Forming non broken stunts
« on: March 02, 2011, 04:57:18 PM »
My players took a look at the stunt creation and came up with a couple stunts that didn't sit right with me but seemed within the confines of existing stunts.

In fists there is a stunt that lets you use fists as defense against anything athletics does, which is basically everything physical. One player wanted to do the opposite and let athletics serve as a fists attack, like a linebacker plowing through people or juggarnaut etc.

It seems to be within the new trapping rules, but it effectively consolidates physical defense and attack into one skill. So he takes no real detriment from putting 5 into it and then he desired to take a shapeshifting power so he could dump refresh into athletics, as well as supernatural speed( I think this might only effect defense though... ).

Also the one for conviction that allows its use as a defensive block. That doesn't reduce damage does it? I said h*** no but I may be wrong.

Opinions? The other ideas were similar in consolidation nature.

DFRPG / Echanted defense and offense weapons
« on: March 02, 2011, 04:55:57 AM »
So a player of mine wants to play a wizard warrior monk and craft his focus slots into enchanted items instead. One into an always on defensive and one into an always on offensive.

My question for the defensive is can it be a block or armor whenever he wants? and can it be dispelled?

My question for the offensive is can this be done as an always on? Can it be dispelled? He wants to run it as a kind of energy "aura" that could be formed into multiple shapes at his discretion just for fluff/flavor.

DFRPG / Summoning ectoplasm
« on: February 28, 2011, 03:36:28 PM »
Can't remember if I just glossed this over, but I don't recall any rules for summoning and forming ectoplasm, during some char creation sillyness my players had some really wacky ideas that seem almost doable under the rules. But I don't remember rules for ectoplasm, was it evocation? Thaumaturgy? Heres a couple ideas they ran by me.

Spiderman like ectoplasm slinging. All this would really be is forming a rope with ectoplasm spanning from your hand to where ever. I don't think it is too complicated.

Or an alternative to this batman grappling hook. actually having a bungee cord attached to your body and just using evocation to "throw" it a ways away hurling you with it.

One thing they haven't thought of is how to stop once they've flung themselves, but I'll let them know that once their face is in a wall.

Also one of the more wacky ideas was forming a gundam like construct of ectoplasm and then piloting it. Someone had the even more amazing notion of everyone having it in the form of ludicrous thaumaturgic spells and combining them into a megazord. Silly I know and I would never allow it, but I was still curious of it can be done in the system which would be AWESOME.

Also how would someone add flying powers to a construct?

DFRPG / Tips on Evocation?
« on: February 25, 2011, 05:52:53 PM »
I love this magic system I think its great, my only problem with evocation though is that it cannot be used for a very long amount of time if I'm correct, so lemme confirm some things:

Regularly evocating up to your conviction in power uses 1 mental stress no matter what.
Sponsored magic evocation is the same.
The toughness powers do not effect mental stress or consequences

So the most a char coming out of character creation can use evocation is 5 times before needing to take consequences. In a single scene. Which is a lot if you use it right, but it leaves me wanting a bit more.

Has anyone else felt like this? Or does it never really become a problem in everyone's opinion? Is there such a thing as mental armor? Can it soak evocation damage? (Cheap I know.)
