DFRPG / [Vancouver] Just picked up my book...
« on: July 17, 2010, 03:46:59 AM »
.... from a local gaming store here in Vancouver (the real Vancouver, BC, not a Vancouver Method copy... ;D) and y'know, what a great looking set of tomes. I've heard about the high production values and it still exceeded my expectations. To the Evil Hat team - congrats on a job well done, I'm looking forward to using these books for a long long time!

Cheers!

DFRPG / Re: [DFRPG] Emissaries of Power... of a spirit of the City
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:44:58 AM »
Our setting for this game with the spirit(s) of the City is modern day London, and I was having a lot of trouble putting together something that was coherent and tied in - but you guys gave me some great ideas and I think I finally have a good High Concept and Trouble:

High Concept: London Knight
Trouble: Too many Spirits, not enough Emissaries

:)

Think that should keep things busy eh? Once I get this all tied up I'll post the character you guys helped me come up with. I'll also post some of the ideas for spirits of the City that our group have come up with in some brainstorming today.

I have to say, BTW, Google Wave has been a total gem in the early going with City & Character Creation phases; can't wait to see how it runs once the game gets going.

Have you decided on a city yet? Stanley Park / Deadman's Island is the most obvious candidate for a genius loci in Vancouver - the heart of the city.

Hey Biff :) This is for a game that I'm playing on GWave with some folks; but its going to have some major play in the FTF game if I have any say in it... just reading things in way more depth and detail since it looks like I'm GM'ing that one.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions guys.

One of the things I'm struggling to crystallize is that "city demi-god" vs "many neighbourhoods", and "conscious spirit with ambition & goals" vs "primal consciousness". Any of those are great, its trying to sort out what best fits the spirit of the Dresdenverse that's difficult for me - and of course what provides maximum story possibility (ie. compels compels compels!)

This is for a setting of modern day London btw, if that helps generate any more thoughts and ideas.

DFRPG / [DFRPG] Emissaries of Power... of a spirit of the City
« on: July 14, 2010, 08:32:22 AM »
Crafting up a submerged character who is tied to the Spirit of the City; before I get into what he can do though, I need to come up with some ideas on what a spirit of the City (a specific city, ie the one we're playing in) would want of an emissary.

ie. what is in it for the spirit to have an emissary?

To narrow down the focus I thought that perhaps there are multiple spirits of the City - one for each of its major themes or aspects - and different neighbourhoods or traits might have its own ideas as to what would be best. This would also imply that multiple emissaries can exist for the different aspects or themes that are strong enough to manifest a spirit, and they may not always get along.

Any ideas or input welcome...

I still think it would be hilarious to run Vancouver using the Vancouver Method.

Well, I'm from Vancouver so I think its funny they named the method after my hometown, but true enough, I work for an gov't org and appreciate the impact is has on our visibility & economy. Always fun to point out the local landmarks in the background!

I'm also in North Van, and I may be interested as well depending on the location and times? Shoot me a pm please? :)

No location set yet, we're kind of hoping to keep things central, and its tentatively scheduled for Sunday afternoons, once every two weeks.

We're currently hoping for a GM to step up; if no one does I will, but I'd need some time to learn the rules better.

Would be happy to have you on-board; we're bantering back & forth now about which city to play in, and need to sort out a couple more details ahead of getting together for our first get-together. I've PM'd you the specifics about where to join the conversation.

Cheers!

I map out relationships. Kinda like a flowchart, but not - just to keep relationships in view, it helps you remember the ripple effect of what someone's actions might create. Thick lines for strong relationships, thinner for relationships that are less so.

It also helps to keep the 'players' in view - not the PCs, but the movers & shakers.

There's now a small group formed to play and we're in the City Creation phase; if you're local to the Vancouver area and would like to join, let me know.

Am always happy to hear "if you liked X, try Y" suggestions - thanx for the info. Will see if Kate Griffin's in the library and check it out... :)

Was reading about O'Leary's shutting down and never re-opening but... what if it DID re-open... but only to those who're clued in and are able step sideways somehow or see it? Just a thought.

But am interested in seeing where this goes and like what I see so far, I'm up the way in Vancouver and visit Seattle often on business and pleasure, so its fun to read this thread :)

DFRPG / Setting up a DFRPG group in Vancouver / GVRD area
« on: July 02, 2010, 05:06:00 AM »
Trying to gauge interest in forming a group to take on the DFRPG in Vancouver / GVRD / Lower Mainland (That's Vancouver BC, not Vancouver WA!)

I'm in the Tri-cities area but have car and can travel. Personally, my schedule is once every two weeks preferably on Sat night or Sun afternoon - but think it would be really neat if we filled in play in between with an online component.

I'm not a FATE expert but the DFRPG has convinced me to make the leap. Happy to GM/volunteer as long as the group is patient, but that's probably a bridge we'll cross when and if we get to it. Age disclaimer: I'm a "mature" gamer (mid 30's) but am young at heart :)

Looking forward to connecting with some local fans and Dresdenauts!
