DFRPG / Re: Conflict action: forced movement?
« on: May 02, 2011, 05:44:07 PM »
A lot of people disagree with me, but I like the idea of maneuvers invoked for effect to attain movement.

Works for me. How much does each manuever grant in movement?

Otherwise, our GM seems comfortable with attack vs defense :  each point the attack exceeds the defense 1 zone is moved (usually in an uncontolled fashion barrign true telekineses or the like assuming the atttack was designed to move someone or something.  Otherwise he and hte player work together for knockback results as fit the raw force and story.

Darkness?  I don't use screens either.

Yup, I agree.  Screens have no appeal to me other than a compiling of info in concise manner.

2I assume Fae aren't going to be chosen as his knights, therefore...iron shouldn't be a catch.

Agreed. 100% with Tedronai

However, I could see the appeal to having one of the Erlking's goblins acting in similar capacity.

Necroing this thread too.  We've all been playing a good amount of time and likely have some new creative consequences to list.

My Knight of the Cross has recently been:

Severe: Run Through (several times in his career)

and

Extreme: sewed something into my thigh to hide it (called unecessary surgery!)

DFRPG / Re: +0 Catch for WCVs?
« on: May 01, 2011, 05:18:02 PM »
I now have a sick idea for a WCV plot, where they use the younger members to sniff out mortals with True Love and quietly murder them.

That's sick.  I think I like it.

Is it poor form to reanimate a thread in the Resource Collections? If so I won't add more aspects.  If not I've got quite a list.  Though there are an infinite number of aspects and I think I'd prefer to make my own...I do like the idea of collecting a bunch for refference.

+1 to all social skill rolls is certainly WELL beyond the power of any stunt.  Hell, it's beyond the power of a dozen stunts.  It seems to be reasonably costed to me.

They have to recognize and respect the mark for it to work.  Seems to easy for the GM or player it is being used against to simply say they aren't impressed.  Shouldn't happen, but that loophole leaves lots of room for interpretation.

Since there is that loophole, I see no reason not to allow the +1 to the roll.  Marked by Mab could be useful in inciting fear in many related to the Fae courts.  Denarians not so much.  Though marked by Almighty...may well work in reverse to that situation.  It gives Marked by Power a little more teeth in the circumstances it comes in handy, but still isn't as useful as tagging an aspect for +2.  Is it a little Munchkintastic and sneaky? Sure, but cleverness should be rewarded.  Seems to me the point of trying to manuever, tag aspects, make declarations, and spending fate points is all "jockeying for position" and tipping scales in one's own favor.  The system, for lack of better terms, rewards BSing your way into bonuses to conquer the foe.

1- This is because god is the ultimate heavy hitter, so the power only works in my mind if it is being powered by an absolute power
2- Soulfire doesn't help against Physical immunity it only effects the toughness powers,
3- Some supernatural heavy hitter can't hurt each other which dosen't matter as they are unlikly to fight
4- If a PC can access the catch for a phsically immune enemy it can hurt it, or use mental stress instead but just being strong isn't a justification for bypassing a catch.

2- True enough. Although, I wasn't operating under the theory that the Erlking would have Physical Immunity.

3- I was reffering to the chart which ranks the supernatural heavy hitters, I assumed Knights, or Lady's may have reason to be in Erlking's path.

4- I wasn't suggesting powerlevel satisfies catch, but to disallow the main characters a chance at finding a way to bypass a catch, would be poor.  I suppose in my initial post I misworded that. apologies.

Idea for Erlking's catch/his Knights: perhaps "Worthy Prey" +0 --- Not just Prey that stands before him/her/it?
I assume Fae aren't going to be chosen as his knights, therefore...iron shouldn't be a catch.  If they are indeed fae, iron should still be applicable.

986
Yes those things would bypass any toughness powers awarded from the Erlking since they are powers/situations that bypass toughness powers. How is that relevant to that specific catch?

I wasn't arguing the specific catch.  Was disputing the fact that Erlking's prey can't hurt him.

987
I don't like that, personally. I don't see the Erlking as Autumn. He's the hunter. Nothing more, nothing less. he has no opponents but his prey, and they can't harm him...

Just my opinion.  I like the smaller lesser court idea.  That you and many don't is awesome, we'll likely never game together.  If we do, you'll have to deal with it then, for now.  I accept your position.

I will say that him beign a hunter and nothing more/nothing less makes him a little one sided, too black and white and in turn...boring.

As for his prey not being able to hurt him....  I call Bull$h1t.  Per system, theres a few things that can hurt anything.

#1 any item or creature with the power: all are equal under god.
#2 soulfire
#3 any other plot device power or supernatural heavyweight
#4 any PC with a comparable refresh toa supernatural heavyweight, after all teh Dresden Files is all about exceptions and rarities or the novels would be boring.  There is no reason the main characters of a chronicle should be any different.

I could see certain powers granting: marked by power; helping to incite certain emotions, sure.

I also think that Marked by Power costing 1 refresh is a bad idea, it simply doesn't do enough.

989
I'm of the opinion the way the courts seem to work, it would be far easier to simply create a fourth court (Spring) to act as antithesis to Autumn.

Maybe have Spring/Autumn being lesser courts, maybe with patriarchs instead of matriarchs.

Thus making their catch trappings of Spring.

Otherwise, I've little to add to the conversation.

DFRPG Resource Collection / Re: Custom Power List
« on: April 30, 2011, 04:04:59 PM »
I think they're both cool, but more stunts than powers. For a power, I'd combine them both and leave them at one refresh, otherwise it just isn't useful enough to justify magical abilities.

I agree.

You may also want to find a way to work in ventriloquism (non traditional) to make hte siren sound like it's coming from a certain direction.  Far more useful than a dead end alley emiting a siren.

Could performance be used for ventriloquism or would a power work better?
