I am going! *happy dance* Who else is coming?
-
I'm estatic that Jim is coming to Seattle....but I have class in Bellevue at that same time and I can't miss... :'( :'( :'(
-
Call in sick. ;) Seriously though, try to make it. It'll be fun!
-
Right now, it looks like I'm going. :D Fingers crossed like they've never been crossed before that nothing changes. I am ridiculously excited, can't wait!
-
Awesome, Silverfox! Depending upon who else from the forum shows up to the signing, we can wear little nametags with our forum names. Just so we know who's who. :)
-
I just moved to Seattle and they post about the signing! I have never been to a book signing before so I'm not sure about etiquette. Can we bring our own copy or are we expected to buy a copy from the book store? I'm really looking forward meeting Jim and his fans but I want to make sure I put my best foot forward.
-
It's always good manners to call the bookstore and ask. Some are very accommodating, some less. Still, the smart move is to buy a copy from the host; bring others you want signed (up to whatever limit is set by the host, although Jim has a history of being gracious about people getting back in line after having the official maximum signed, as that lets everyone have that first shot at getting the max signed while allowing the patient a chance at more), but definitely be willing to buy one on-site.
-
Thanks for the advice, Shecky, I'll give them a call.
-
The website says they expect you to buy a copy from the bookstore there. :) I'm going to give them a call and get a copy booked before I show up. That way they aren't sold out when I get there.

Thanks Priscellie! :)
-
I'm going to be here! It's about a five minute walk from my dorm 8). Probably have to skip class for it, but totally worth it.
-
Awesome! :) We have 4 forumites going now. Will there be more? I hope so! :)

*Thread bump* Anyone bought their tickets yet?

Yup, ordered them Monday.
-
I just bought mine today. I can't wait! :)

*Thread bump* Anyone bought their tickets yet?
Mine arrived today! I keep looking at the envelope while I'm sitting here and getting more and more excited. :D
I've never been to something like this before, and I have a question. I know it begins at seven, but will people be lining up or anything prior to that? If so, how much earlier might that be starting? I'm trying to plan things out time-wise as much as possible since it'll take me a while to get up there, heh.

I'm going to buy mine as soon as I'm away from sketchy public wifi ;).

Yay for tickets! To answer your question, it's a good idea to line up a while before the actual event. I've only been to two other signings (not for Jim though), and there was a full house about half an hour before the event. I showed up about an hour before, so I did get decent seats. With Jim, I expect it to be nuts, so I'd show up at least an hour before. Where are you coming from? I'm driving up from Vancouver, BC, so I'll probably get there well in advance.

Oh, haha, that's a good idea. :D

Thanks, I figured it might be something like that. c: I'm coming from the Olympia area.
-
Wow, you are driving much farther than I am!
Also, how does everyone feel about wearing nametags with our forum names on them? That way we know who's who.
-
When I clicked on the green tickets button, it took me to the bookstore page, not a place to buy tickets. Did anyone else have this problem?
I won't know if I can go until about 5 days before, but I would like to know how to buy tickets in case I need to.
-
Spot - I'm willing to do that
Firelight - Same problem here. I ended up just going to www.brownpapertickets.com and looking up the event. Worked like a charm, then.
-
Good idea, Kagehiru! Here's that link: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/292757

I see Priscellie and Kagehiru got to it before I could! But yes, Brownpapertickets is the way to go. I emailed them to ask a question about the event and they responded immediately. Great service. :)

It should take about an hour and a half, depending on traffic. A bit inconvenient, but doable. :) Fortunately, I don't have to do the driving; I've been introducing my mother to the Dresden Files, so I'm bringing her along and she's driving while I read to her on the way up. XD
Nice idea with the nametags, I'll see if I can remember to do that (though you're probably the only one who'd recognize my name, since I haven't posted anywhere but this topic yet, heh).

Lucky you. :) I get to drive myself and the husband (assuming he wants to come with me). As far as the nametag goes, I'll wear one with my forum name.
And you need to fix the "I haven't posted anywhere but this topic yet" problem...go stop by one of the threads in the Bar or in any of the other parts of the forum. I promise you that none of the other forumites bite. ;D
-
Just got my tickets for the event. This will be my first book signing, so I am pretty stoked. Will any of you Betas be there? I would love to meet some of you even though I don't spend as much time here in the forums as I would like. Balancing a day job with taking college classes is really messing with my goof off time. ;D
-
Good for you, restless.spirit!
I don't think any betas are coming, but Jim is definitely coming :D Sorry couldn't resist!
Will be great to meet you guys. :)
-
Sorry I'm new here, just signed up today in order to get in on the signing discussion. I got my Tickets on the 11/1, and I'm driving from Portland to Bellingham to pick up my friend (Who got me into The Dresden Files) then driving all the way back to Seattle for the signing. I can't wait! I'm also semi happy to hear that I wont be the only signing virgin it seam there are several of us. I've been to concerts, Midnight premiers (how I met my Wife), Private screenings, and Readings (Thanx Powell's). I see that the Limit is 2 books per trip threw the line... I'm guessing that means I have to make 7 trips threw the line to get my books signed.
-
A lot of people turned out, it seems like it was a success! I didn't notice anyone's name tag featuring their forum name, though I did see one girl who had, "An Authority Figure", written on it. I hope everyone got their books signed!
-
Does anyone know if there's a video or transcript of the event anywhere?

Watch out for a PM from me coming your way. :)

Priscellie posted a link on her Twitter. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gn-qp4aOXc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gn-qp4aOXc)

Oh was that Brandon Sanderson at the end of the video asking a question? :)

No, someone asked which authors Jim can recommend to them. Brandon Sanderson was one of the straggler names. :)
