Wish I could make it, but I won't be in Houston until the end of April.  *sigh*

I wish he'd come to Dallas, Tx as well. I can't get down to Houston and I've never met him...in person.

I second Sameth's wish.  Fort Worth would be even better.  :)

Fort Work is good with me. I live in Arlington, which is between Dallas and Fort Worth.

Ok y'all get the cool Cons. and we get Mr. Butcher. I think that's a fair trade off.

Yes, but my Dresden Files books remain unsigned and I don't get to meet him (in real life). How is that fair?

According to this site, Mr. Butcher will be at ConDFW in February.  However, that is a long time to wait.

I'm also spoiled, being from Atlanta.  Can ConDFW possible be as big or as awesome as Dragon*Con?

Never said it was fair for you.

Dallas's biggest con is Project A-Kon, with 15-20k people. So....no.

However, ConDFW is an awesome private little con with fantastic writers...because it's run by people from A-Kon & Aggiecon, so they have connections out the whazoo.  Bob Aprin & John Steakley are regulars, as are Pat Elrod, and recently, Steven Brust. I've been pushing for Jim for years, I'm glad they finally got the schedules lined up. (Jim's booked til 2057)

I'll be doing a flyby to wave and buy a book or two from the hosts. This is due to multiple reasons, one of which being I know Jim and should free up parking for others who want to meet him and get a book signed.

Awwwww F*CK I didn't know that !!!

Well as long as I can get him to sign Lisa Mc book and Hawthorns book and birthday card. I'll be ok. I could careless if he doesn't get to sign mine. Those are the ones I NEED to be signed.

Place was packed with no parking 45 mins before the event. I showed up, bought some stuff, chatted with Jim for 15 mins, promised him I wouldn't tell Shannon about his eating broccoli and brussle sprouts, and ran off.

So if you showed up at 6 and got parking a block away....you're welcome.

Just got back it ruled. Got the books signed. Saw Mickey(from afar) and Fairyfreak. Got a beer from Jim. Jim liked my Tshirt and thought the birthday card I got him to sign for Hawthorn was the coolest thing.

Did you wave? If so, sorry I missed it. Several people who looked familiar didn't show any signs of recognition at all.

I even thought Shannon was there for a second, until I remembered that couldn't be her.

I thought I saw you at one point, Mickey, but I wasn't sure.  Talked to Wolfhowls *waves*, and had a fun time getting books signed and listening to the Q&A stories.  Awesome night!  :)

I don't know if this is the appropriate place to post these, but since it happened in Houston, it seemed right to me.

My daughter Hawthorn's 15th birthday was on 4/4/08, three days before the signing.  We live in Miami, but it just so happens that one of the board great's lives in Houston.  Randall (Wolfhowls) (I so love Randall) not only got a book signed for her, but he got JB to sign a birthday card to her as well.  She got them today.  I took some pictures, and here they are:

Looking at the signature:

The birthday card:

The signature in the card:

And the book...he actually wished her a happy birthday and dated it on her birthday.  How cool is that?  I am officially one of his fangirls.  I have thus far avoided being anyone's fangirl, but he went way above what he needed to do to make her happy.  What a great guy.  Priscellie, when you see him this weekend, give him a big kiss and thank you from us, will you?

I was there, right in the front row, and I can tell you that he thought it was way cool that Wolfhowls had him sign the birthday card (and he liked the card too) and it was totally his idea to 'backdate' the book a couple of days. He just adds the year in most signatures.  He's really just the nicest guy you can imagine.

This is what I hear, and what he did for my child seems to bear that out.  Given he's becoming one of the most popular writers, it's nice to see he's human, too.  We really appreciate it.  And of course, we both adore Randall.  He's a sweetheart.

Hummm does that mean he'll get penalized for it on the vile thread????   :-)

You are the best Wolfhowls AND Helen you are too for planning such a special treat for Hawthorn..

Hugs to all!  (including Jim!)

I don't think he's comfortable with being kissed by fans, but I'll give him a bag of the Hershey's variety. :D

If Daoine's hubby "won Christmas" with his shield bracelet, you, Randall, and Jim have won birthdays.

No problem.  I understand completely.  The "We're not worthy" scene from "Wayne's World" will work just as well.  Don't forget to take a picture.

I think Randall and Jim get most of the credit here, but thank you.

I've been running on the "Vote for me because I'm nice" platform, so yeah, I think it puts a crimp in his campaign technique.  Gee, what a shame.
