DFRPG / Need help balancing an enemy group (Players stay out)
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:34:20 PM »
Hello so for my first story arch in a game I'm planning on having the group deal with a pack of Lycanthropes causing problems in Boston. The Leader and his lieutenants are going to be smarter than most so it's not going to be a pure combat plot. The PCs are at chest deep and here are the basics of them:

A champion of God ex supernatural killer for the yakuza
A Kinetomancer Apprentice Ex-con artist
A troll Changeling
An emissary of the Archive, essentially a hereditary kincad that reawakened a rejected family power and responsibility.
A Master Mechanic Mortal
A black sheep White Court Vampire of house skavis that breaks up human trafficking rings and eats the victims despair to try and help them heal.

I'm thinking the Lycanthrope Gang is Run by a one armed gent who calls himself Garm. He's brighter and more methodical than most of his ilk and will be stated as submerged.

I'm thinking 3 Chest deep Lieutenants running varies operations, Protection, Chop chop, Smuggling, etc.

Maybe a dozen generic punching bags and one or two feet in the waters with potential.

Does this sound decent? This isn't something I want wrapped up in one or two sessions and even after the main trouble is solved if they prove effective foils I'll keep them around. The party will probably never meet all of these guys at once either. Just need some input. Maybe some good  ideas for the LTs.

DFRPG / Crossover central
« on: March 03, 2012, 12:55:15 PM »
Hello. I’m taking on a project to meld several series that I enjoy into one world for the purposes of running a game. As you can imagine while some things are natural (Dresdenverse’s ventori Umboriam folds nicely into Buffy’s watchers which folds into Highlander’s watchers) some are a good deal more difficult (Supernatural’s demon’s are nothing like Dresden’s for example.). I was wondering if anyone had any real insights into doing something like this. Or would like to collaborate somewhat on this?

For the record Dresden files will be the “primary” fandom I’m working with, with elements taken from the following:

Highlander
Supernatural
Buffy/Angel
Sanctuary (possibly)

Thanks for reading.

DFRPG / Fate convertsion for BSG: Advice needed
« on: August 17, 2011, 10:16:21 PM »
So I'm attempting to convert fate for the Battlestar Galactica universe and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this? I honestly have no idea where to start other than reading over Dresden and Diaspora obsesivly to make sure I have the rules and differences understood first.

Sorry if this is off topic but Evil Hat doesn't seem to have their own forum.

DFRPG / How should I do this?
« on: April 12, 2011, 04:33:36 PM »
Ok so in my game that I run I stole a plot from the Dresden TV show, specifficaly the episode Walls. I plan on haveing the final showdown with Caleb take place in either the Hospital or an empty wharehouse. In my mind this fight will involve him leaping from the shadows to attack someone then jumping through a wall to escape. Essentially makeing this a deadly game of cat and mouse (The saying not the mechanic). I was wondering how best to model this kind of conflict. Lot's of zones on the map maybe?

DFRPG / Teaching Newbies
« on: April 07, 2011, 02:04:57 PM »
So after a considerable amount of schedules conflicts I'm finally starting a face to face game this Saturday. Of the four players three have never RPed before and the last hasn't since DnD in the 80s. I've given the three complete newbies a brief rundown of character creation and templetes which they seemed to understand and while none of them settled on a character I think they're leaning towards a Wizard, a Changling, and a Champion of god.

Does anyone have any advice on how to smooth over the process of teaching them and getting the characters and city made? Any player aids floating around the internet I can print out for them?

DFRPG / Gremlins?
« on: April 05, 2011, 06:11:41 PM »
So I'm wondering what their stats would be? And I'm not talking the movie Gremlin's here, but rather the WW2 Pilot superstition. I'm going under the assumption that they are Wyldfae. Naturally they should have a decent craftsmanship, the stunt that has to do with disassembling things, and the hexing power, but what else? I'm thinking increase the hexing powers cost by one and make it completely voluntary, and give them good stealth and burglary. Inhuman toughness seems to be a standard Fae power in OW so maybe that?

DFRPG / Two players looking for Skype/maptools game
« on: February 14, 2011, 03:32:01 PM »
Hello. A friend of mine and myself have an idea we're itching to try out involving a pair of twins, one a wizard and the other her fae kidnapped brother. We've been looking for a game without success so far. If anyone would be willing to run you'd have our eternal gratitude. We might have a third player on the hook but he's had some family issues of late. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays work best and we're both East Coast USA while the potential third is Hawaiian. Skype and Maptools aren't necessary but I would prefer a realtime game (Which is why I didn't post in the play by post section).

Thank you for reading.

Edit: Make that three, potentially four, players looking.

DFRPG / Need some GMing help
« on: October 14, 2010, 02:09:19 PM »
Hello. I’m finally getting a Dresden game off the ground and I’d like a little help for an introductory adventure as I’m a new GM. The game is Waist deep and set in the pregen Baltimore and the characters are as follows, a True believer that works directly under Sister Ann and has the high concept “Modern day Paladin”, a house cat that can turn human that works as an information broker of sorts and has the high concept “Feline Casanova”, a Stage magician that accidently attracted a native American based fire spirit to himself and has the high concept “Reluctant Emissary”. There’s also a magic user of some sort that hasn’t been written up yet and possibly a White Court Virgin psychologist working for house Raith to gain a foothold against the White Court in the area.

I was thinking of having them deal with a rogue Black Court or a mortal gang war that would lead into something bigger but I’m not sure on the best way to do any of that.

DFRPG / Would anyone run a maptools game?
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:17:59 AM »
Hello. A friend or two of mine and I are looking to play a Dresden game over maptools. Problem is none of us is willing to GM. Is there a GM out there who needs some players?

DFRPG / Stunts for a bodyguard.
« on: April 10, 2010, 06:54:29 PM »
So I'm joining a PBP game and one of the character ideas I'm toying with is a changeling (elf) bodyguard. I had this idea for a stunt called either "nooooo" or "get down" with which the character can replace another character in the same zones defense roll with his own, the idea being that he's pushing them out of the way or parrying a blow for them. Is this balanced? And does anyone have ideas for other stunts that fit the concept?

DFRPG / PBP on insane journal, gauging interest.
« on: April 08, 2010, 05:48:07 AM »
I had a brief idea. Now most of my RP experience isn’t in tabletop but rather in journal based games. For those that don’t know Journal games involve making a journal on one of the various livejournal clones (I prefer IJ but it’s mostly personal taste), joining the related communities (generally an Out of character forum, an in character, networked communication forum, and a community to post action threads), and playing. There’s no direct GM though in this case the Mods of the game could handle NPCs and dice rolling disputes. These games generally focus more on character development than action scenes and are character driven rather than plot driven.

I was thinking about making one based in an agreed upon city, with most of the characters serving as faces for various locations and with fate running in the background as conflict resolution. Would there be any interest in this? I’m thinking if we get two mods counting me, maybe three if the game gets big enough and at least a few other players I’ll go make the comms.

DFRPG / Las Vegas?
« on: April 06, 2010, 01:02:33 AM »
So I just finished reading "Your Story" and at one point during it Bob mentions that the barrier between the Nevernever and our world is thin in Las Vegas. I was wondering what the possible reasons for that would be? Is it because it's a tourist town? Because it's "Sin City"? It just sounds good? I ask because if I run a game it's going to be set in NJ and with Atlantic City as a possible location I'd like to know if this is an avenue worth pursuing. (I know my game, my rules but I like reasoning to be internally consistant.)
