Check out the "mapping" thread and see if anyone else is from the Tricities area, maybe they'd pick you up if they're going.  But since it's a Tuesday, I doubt it--doesn't hurt to try, though!

Well I just found out I can't get off work.    :-\  Oh well.

Edited to add:  I checked out McAnally's Map, and it's seems there's only 3 of us
in Washington. Two on your side and me in the Tri-Cities.

OK, I'm 5'9", not skinny (but not really fat either). I look like I do in the signature except brown hair and less fangs.

Yeah... soon I'm going to start making a WHOLE MESS of Dresden related fanart. I just got to find the time to go through my Dresden Files episodes and make screen caps.
Storm Front gave me sooooooooo many ideas for art.

does anyone know if it's going to cost anything?
Title: Re: Jim goes to Washington
Post by: Dread Pirate Sayessa on March 31, 2007, 05:22:22 PM
It shouldn't cost anything.  I've never heard of paying for author signings at bookstores.  Conventions, yes but not stores.  However, I've heard the parking there kind of sucks.
If you look up University Bookstore Seattle you'll find the website with contact info for the author signing reps if you have any questions about it.
Hope to see you there!  (I'm carpooling otherwise I'd offer you a ride... I'm in Gig Harbor!)

Here's the low down on University Bookstore:

There will be enough parking.  It's not that bad come 6:30 at night on a week day.  They give you a ticket that you bring into the store with you.  If you can, do not buy your book early and bring it with you; buy the book at the bookstore.  If you do that, your time at the event will be covered and you won't pay a dime for parking as they will stamp your parking ticket.  Plus, it's just a courtesy to buy your book at the store that is hosting the event, in my opinion.

I think this will be one of Duane's larger events, so get there early if you can.  Duane is the head of science fiction/fantasy at the U Bookstore, and he always puts on a good show.  To get an autograph, it costs nothing.  But like I said, please buy your book at their store -- if a bookstore doesn't show good sales of an event book, the publisher may cut back an author's tour next time.  We don't want that to happen with Jim. :)

If you have any other questions about the U Bookstore event, just ask.  I live two miles from it and go there for most events.

Shawn

Since it appears my post caused some confusion -- which I don't know why, it doesn't use the plural book(s) anywhere haha -- you can bring all of your books in suitcases for Jim to sign and that's perfectly fine.  Just be sure to support the bookstore by either buying the new book there or buy some other book you've been wanting.  The bookstore puts a lot of time and energy into making these events possible and we should support them with a purchase or two for that time and energy.

That's all. :)

Glad to know there's good parking!  I was going off the websites warning about limited parking.

I plan on buying the book there, because after all, it technically doesn't even come out til the 3rd anyway.  At least according to B&N.com

*squee we get Jim on the release day!*

Greetings one and all.  It has been several months since I have been able to get on.  Wow.  A lot of new faces.  Given that I live in Lynnwood (a suburb of Seattle), I will be there as well with a small disposable gift for Big Jim.  Hopefully he will let us take a picture with it.

Is Sulien still around and is she planning on coming?

I just made the "SplatterCon" Badge.

read this thread to see Images (http://www.jim-butcher.com/bb/index.php/topic,2416.45.html) of them.

At first I thought of just wearing it, but maybe I'll give it to Jim. *shrug* Maybe.

As I made it, I felt like I've gone from Strong Devotion to Pathetic Obsession.  :P

Darn, I couldn't get anywhere near Lord Nedd because the line was so crazy.  I just happened to see him holding his hat while looking for a seat.

I didn't see you Mack, and I did look!  But I just downloaded my pictures and I think maybe you're in one...  I'll post them later (after I read White Night!)  Sorry I missed you!

He seemed to like the present I gave him...

What question did you ask?
Title: Re: Jim goes to Washington
Post by: Mack on April 04, 2007, 04:12:03 PM
I was like the second person to ask him a question and it was about Harry's mom.
I was seated in the second row.

What did you get him? And did you see the painting of Paul Blackthorn that Jim got. It was beautiful!

I recorded a majority of the Q and A. And I'm going to try to put it on YouTube as quick as I can.

Not tacky at all!  SplatterCon!!! shirts are appropriate for all occasions, including weddings, funerals, and nudist retreats.

It may take awhile. And may not look too good.

1. I have a crappy video compression program (suggest one to me if you can)
2. I got about 37 minutes out of 1 hour and 20 minutes. I ran out of tape!!! I only brought the camera because it was the only camera I have to take digital pictures, then it came to me that I could record how freaking funny his is!
3. 37 minutes of pure footage on a computer is almost 10 gigs of memory and YouTube wants it 100MB or lower.
4. You hear my AWFUL laughter on it. I didn't know I had such a bad laugh, until I watched to tape over.

And Priscella, Jim remembers you!

Mack, YOU WERE IN THE SECOND ROW?!?!  So was I, until two seats opened in the first row!

I was originally sitting right next to the woman who did the painting!!!  (erinallen.com, btw)

Gaaah we should have all worn name tags or something!  Or brightly colored hats!

I got a few minutes of Jim talking, too, but not much.  My camera only has about 15 mins of memory on the card I have now, and that goes down with how many stills I take (of course.)  I also tried not to laugh too much, and so now I sound even dorkier on the video...  Ah well!  We can have a "who's laugh is more annoying" thread!   ;D

I remember the Harry's mom question...  Damn wish I'd known it was you... :(

I did indeed. AND I managed to get my book signed, say hi to Jim (who did recognize me, booyah, even though I can reliably state I look nothing like I did back in the day) and make it out of the parking lot one minute before they'd have charged me an extra three bucks. It was a great event, and I'm very glad I went.

Someone asked if he ever based characters on real life, and aside from the Shiro character--who is based on real people--he said Harry was kind of based on his extremely tall, lean friend Charles (who you would want with you while walking down a dark alley.)   :D
