Maybe someone didn't want Harry pasted on the sidewalk just yet, so they called up some Eldritch horrors to distract them both?

Maybe future-Harry arranges for them to be summoned so he and Eb don't throw down yet. Hence time travel?  That's the problem with time travel being introduced into stories.  Is Harry going to run himself off the road in that earlier book?

Maybe Ebenezer McCoy is the person Harry will have to chase.

That's a frightening thought.  If the Blackstaff can break the laws of magic, it's entirely possible that the ban on time travel may be right up there.  If Eb is as irrational as he seems, it's entirely possible.  I think someone had a WAG years ago that Harry would break all of the laws of magic at one point or another.

Also, is Mirror Mirror definitely the next Dresden book?  If that's the case, is it possible that some of the characters in this book have been replaced by alternate versions?

One of the articles I found that talked about Seidrmadr, mentioned manipulation of time...hmmmm.

DF Spoilers / Re: What if Harry's Assumptions are Wrong?

One more thing in the "Eb set up Thomas" theory, is that Eb already demonstrated that he could get into the Embassy unannounced.  Would he be petty enough to remove Thomas from Harry in that fashion?  He clearly has an irrational grudge towards the Whampires.  There are just far too many possibilities at this point.  Heck, Goodman Grey could have impersonated Thomas and they could have just left the battered body there in the aftermath.  Who knows.

Re-reading the opening chapters with Thomas, he really seems pensive, but I can't tell if it's because he's already gotten his "orders" or whether he's just off balance because of the whole Justine thing.

I also am in the camp that thinks that Thomas isn't really saying Justine, but I have no idea whose name he could be saying.

I don't remember any spoken of, I still remember that horrible day with real sadness.  He also said that his father took him to see Star Wars.  That came out in 1977, Harry was supposedly six when his father died.  Does anyone remember the year Harry was born?  Because that would put him closer to fifty than his early forties.

Maybe some of you weren't around, yes,  Star Wars first arrived in 1977, but it played in theaters for the entire time before Empire came out, and even then, you could still find it in theaters.  It was still in wide release in 1982!  I remember watching both Star Wars and Empire as a double feature before Jedi came out.  Then many theaters were running all three, staggered so you could see them all back to back to back.  So there's no inconsistency there.

My theory:  It definitely *was* Thomas.  Some combination of Mab, Lara, and Marcone are involved.  When Lara and Mab appear in the back of Harry's car, Mab informs Harry that Lara had earned THREE favors.  One of them is already paid.  (Thomas' attack and/or allowing Thomas to be framed for the attack).  That leaves TWO favors for Harry to fulfill.  (Which both Lara and Mab now will result in Thomas being rescued).  I think (as others do) that Marcone *had* to be involved because the transfer to the BFS basement (which happens to be Harry's old lab) is too much of a coincidence.

Ultimately, it may be this whole thing was done for Thomas' own good.  If Butcher's version of the Hounds of Tindalos are also attracted to time travel, that opens up a whole different can of worms as to why they were outside Justine's building.

Phew.  Got through this entire thread.  It's amusing how some people seem to know more than Jim Butcher about his own story.  You can't fill in the blanks in a sketch like this and then write pages about how your filled blanks must be mistakes by Jim.  Yikes.

DF Books / Re: The Growing Time Gap in DF Releases
« on: August 11, 2018, 09:00:13 AM »
At the time of writing, it has now been more than four years since Skin Game was released in 2014. Prior to this, the longest gap between two Dresden novels was only two years between Cold Days and Skin Game. Prior to that, there was a new book every year, from 2000-2012 and there were even two books released in 2001.

What has changed?

Did you read his AMA?  Or listen to any of his recent podcast appearances?  He talks about why he basically hasn't been able to work for three years because of his house problems.

DF Spoilers / Newly Posted Q&A
« on: June 25, 2018, 07:39:54 AM »

The Q&A was posted mere hours ago, but seems to have been shot on Mother's day.  I can't tell if the Label of it being 2017 is correct.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnIZcNMU_uM

The only Holy Shizz stuff for me was the heavy insinuation (he doesn't quite come right out and say it being Jim) that Rashid was the previous Warden of Demonreach.

There was also mention of Lucifer being a character, and another rundown of the Maggie Dresdenverse Hogwarts YA series co-written with his sister.

DF Spoilers / Re: WAG.... Murphy has moved on
« on: June 25, 2018, 07:34:38 AM »

Well, Murphy would make a good Summer Knight, hehe.

I guess I would have preferred it that she wasn't anything supernatural at all...but I suppose it was inevitable.

Here's my video of the Powells Q&A:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZN5DwGPs2U

He didn't answer as many questions as he did the last time he was here (for Changes).  I don't know if people remember, but he walked out and was standing there and nobody recognized him that year because of the haircut, so I was very amused when he right away mentioned that his hair grew out, hehe.

I think he spoke less so he could sign more.

No problem :)

I got there around 5:30 and it was already packed.  One of my D&D buddies goes to just about *every* reading at that Powells and he saved me the last seat in the 2nd row.  I had to shoot between two heads (who talked to each other a few times) but I think it worked out fine.

Glad I could be of some help.  :)

Man it was packed!

He's probably still there signing.

I will have video uploaded tonight, I'll post the link soon.
