Author Craft / Need a name for your friendly neighborhood occult shop
« on: March 22, 2010, 10:54:05 PM »
So, I'm working on a story that's turning out to be a bit like...well, Tenchi Muyo meets Buffy meets Burn Notice. The world, so far, is one with the supernatural as hush-hush, though it is real. The characters go to a store for their occult supplies, which is run by a witch hippie-momma, and I need to name the place. I'm looking for a quirky, funny name for the shop.

Any help?

Honestly, I love writing short stories. I've ended up writing half a dozen just to flesh out my universe and get a grip before I tackled bigger challenges with the 'verse.

I'm....back?

Yea, okay, it's me. If you don't know me, well, hey, not much to know. My name's Justen(waits for the 'Hi, Justen'), and I write a paranormal series called the American Arcane. The series has a few short stories under its belt, and is currently working on transitioning to a novel form. I'm working on it!

Links are in the signature. ;) Reads and reviews are always appreciated.

Since my Dresden Files RPG will be an event from the high-school, I'm going to take it down to a level I hope they'll understand.

"It's right under everyone's noses. The magic, the monsters. Welcome to The Dresden Files. How do we get this? Take Harry Potter. But instead of a little teenager boy, make it a wise-cracking twenty-thirty-something wizard living in perpetual poverty in Chicago who works as a PI sleuthing around for some justice. And the baddies? This is stuff that would make Rowling's creepy-crawlies soil their trousers. We've got vampires, we've got fairies, we've got demons. We've got freaking frozen turkeys that fall out of the sky to use as homing missiles. There's no limit. It's The Dresden Files."

This sounds like a truly sweet plot. Wish I'd thought of it. XD

Well, I really contemplated that I would never become a professional writer, but a beacon of hope came when my own mother actually got a book deal (non-fiction, but still, it was a two-book deal!), and I'm inspired.

Author Craft / Looking for Editor/Co-Writer
« on: December 30, 2007, 08:52:55 AM »
Howdy, folks. It's-a me, Craz. I've just wrapped up the first (and started a second) in an urban fantasy/police procedural series I'm writing, but I'm desperately looking for an editor and/or a co-writer to help out with the next one's production. If anyone's interested, either post here, PM me, or give me a ring on my IM's please.

I tend to write in a linear structure usually, though I might pre-write scenes depending on inspiration and such. Though if I do write out of order, I usually have to spend some time making sure I kept everything linear.

An idea for urban fantasy stories I'd like to see; wizards divided by country same as everyone else, perhaps even with nationalism according to their magic. Governmet-employed wizards is something I'd also like to see experimented with.

You need a poll option for "I already play on one and I'm a freaking addict with four different characters going"   ;D

Oooh, can I change my vote to that?!

Author Craft / Re: Editing? paper or electronic?

I electronically send it off to other people (friends and family) for them to do it. Remember, family are like employees; exploit them.

But, seriously, I prefer electronic, just so I can attack it directly.

I would like to give it a try sometime...

Unfortunately, I don't get to try this for another seven months. ;) And even then, it's only ten weeks...school's a bee-otch.

Well, I've done my own private Dresden Files RPG before, set in a liberal interpretation of the Dresdenverse. Of course, I'm the only here who's read the series, so we incorporate other venues into the RPG. Loads of fun.
