DFRPG / WCV that fed off of glutony
« on: January 28, 2011, 04:15:11 PM »
I am basing my campaign out of Lancaster, PA. One of the locations we wrote up was for Hershey Park. We have it owned and operated by WCV that feed off of gluttony and over consumption. Little kids running around and eating till they get sick. Heck some adults too. Thought it could come up with some interesting situations. Any thoughts?

I don't know. That seems to be a Really Big Loophole. I can easily see someone go around and just feed on non humans then and they would never have to worry about turning full WCV. If you don't want the character to turn when feeding on non humans, then you should make it so they can't feed off of non-humans, or at least not get any benefit from it. If they get full benefit they get full consequences. Thematically speaking that seems appropriate. I remember on occasion Harry saying "What go around comes around" (or am I just making that up?).

I wonder if there could be some Community Code for "There is no wrong answer - discuss with your GM in light of the points discussed here - but there will never be a right answer on X topic."

I like discussions like this. We might not come up with a set rule, but it can still be a good discussion because someone might come up with something for themselves that other wise they wouldn't. Plus it's interesting to see other peoples thoughts on this matter.

So pretty much anyone who gets by your significant block is not going to be a regular mortal.  I don't think you get lawbreaker at this point.  If you make a wall of fire and a wizard jumps into it of his own volition, then you don't get Lawbreaker for someone acting crazy (unless you made them crazy, but that's different).  If you are setting up wards so that initial contact is lethal, then you deserve anything you get for being so vicious.

But you can prove that the wizard jumped in on his own volition?  ;D

I emailed him asking if anyone actually sells said mini. I'll post back if I get a response.

I want to through my spin on the whole conjured fire/tripped first law interpretation. Now if the fire is lit by magic, but isn't sustained by magic (sustained by normal means) then absolutely not. He was killed by mundane fire. If he was tripped by magic then yes, the law violator is the tripper due to intent. If the magic is sustained by magic and the victim is tripped by mundane means (like his own feet) then it's a gray area. If you were sustaining the fire and someone tripped into it and you could have stopped the fire saving the persons life and didn't, law breaker. If you were sustaining the fire and someone tripped into it and you weren't around then you would have probably be accused of lawbreaking due to negligence. If you were sustaining the fire and someone tripped into it and you stopped the fire and tried to save the person but failed to, I'd say that it might be an adventure hook to try to save your wizards life and possibly resulting in the doom of Damocles.

DFRPG / Re: So what IS the agenda of the Fae Courts?????
« on: January 24, 2011, 05:04:49 PM »
There agendas are many and various. There overall agenda would IMO be to be in control over the other court. Not to destroy it though. In summer knight, The summer Lady at that time went crazy and was trying to destroy the summer court so that there would be no more fighting. The summer court was obviously trying to stop them because they didn't want to be destroyed, but so was the winter court. If there is only one court then earth would be destroyed, and with earth the nevernever that is linked to earth would no longer exist either. Bad times. They want control, but realize that there needs to be some sort of balance.

UmbraLux has it right for the ways they do things and what the courts propagate. But would like to add that neither can be called true good and evil by Mortal standards. They do not have the same standards and morals and even way of thinking that mortals do. Think of the courts as you would the seasons. Summer is all about things at their peak. Flowers and trees in bloom, Fruit at it's ripest and best for spreading their seeds. But also can have brutal heat that can wither the strongest plants. Winter is all about things at their end. You have the death of plant life, Hibernation, brutal cold and shattering ice. But there is also the beauty of freshly lain and unmarred snow, and prisms that lay within the highly structured ice reflecting light. It's like yin and yang.

Cool. Thanks for all the help here. It will definitely come in handy when we finally get to.

I think that once the ward is breach it does NOT go down. In grave peril
(click to show/hide)

That would make me think that the "wardmine" would keep going off whenever the ward is breached no matter where the extra shifts are going. But when the ward is nullified the "wardmine" would go away with it.

Along the same lines, you could perform a maneuver/declaration to gain the "Aiming For The Jugular" Aspect and then Invoke that Aspect for the effect "Size is not a factor for this attack".  Otherwise, a player could always say they were attacking so that size wasn't a factor, which would negate one of the limitations of being small.

This is good thinking too. I didn't consider that. I might incorporate that a bit too, maybe situation dependent.

DFRPG / Re: Baltimore Characters

I think that the idea was that the characters in the Baltimore section might not have been all player characters. The best way to get characters is to have the players create there own.

DFRPG / Re: Guidelines: Water Thresholds
« on: January 20, 2011, 04:35:10 PM »
I'd say distance can matter. Magic is an energy. If you reason that water is eroding magic due to it drawing away magic like a conductor would electricity, distance and grounding are big factors. I'd say that the reason the waterways in the earth as well as the aquarium didn't effect Dresden was that he was magically grounded. There was a barrier between him and the water at the aquarium when he was casting spells, and a large amount of ground between him and the waterways. When on the lake though there is nothing but open air between him and the water as well as close proximity the water is able to draw some of the power from the spells.

Borrowed. One of my players has been having issues coming up with a decent high concept. the questionnaire might help.

DFRPG / Re: 4th Nail/Sword of the Cross ideas suggestions?
« on: January 20, 2011, 03:53:09 PM »
I think I might have to burrow this idea as well. But I was thinking for my campaign that the nail/sword combo would work like the spear of Longinus (if I'm spelling it right). Just less powerful, not being in contact with the blood.

I think I like Mijrai's idea better. It fits how I read the manacles.
