Yes! Great news, and thanks for the heads up.

Will we be able to download the pdf with a preorder around the same time? I can't listen to those who made it to Origins brag about having a copy while I go without  ;D

If not, I need to start making plans to possibly attend Origins - heck, I've been wanting to go anyway.

Absolutely.  Evil Hat believes the best choice between a print and a PDF version of a product is BOTH.

This is definitely some of the best news I've heard in the RPG industry for some time. I love the idea of pre-ordering and getting the pdf right away; great marketing idea.

So who else is already planning their trip?  ;D  Lucky for me it's only about 6-7 hour drive.

Since I'm on the other side of the pond, I'm rather hoping that the same offer will be available online through the Indie Press website.

Should be, though maybe a couple weeks after Origins.

Many thanks. I can wait another couple of weeks :)
Here's hoping the final editing and layout process goes smoothly.

So, where would we be able to pre-order such a thing? And is there any way to set it up at the store right now? or relatively soon, so that we can pre-order? cause, you know, if I'm going to have my money already spoken for... I would like it just gone... so I know its already paid for and I don't have to worry.

We're not ready to do the preorder. We want to deliver folks the PDF right away when they place their preorders, and the PDF part at least won't be ready for a few more months yet (I just started on the layout at the beginning of the year).

We'll likely offer the preorder first at the Evil Hat webstore: http://www.evilhat.com/store/

And eventually at IPR: http://www.indiepressrevolution.com/

do you know when you might put up samples? like, sample chapters, except not chapters, more like pages.

Nope. I'd bet we'll start before April, but if not by April, then April.

Not going to be able to make it to Origins but I'm set for Gencon already (for which I hope to have a copy in hand already).  Will anyone from the Evil Hat team be running demos during that convention?

I'm not able to make it to GenCon this year. We haven't yet sorted out who will be able to. I imagine IPR will be present at GenCon and will have copies for sale at the least.

Surely you'll at least come out to visit Jim after it's released and give us locals a chance to get the two of you to sign it right?  ;D

Would you like some of the Alphas to run at Gencon?  I could easily run Dog Daze. Just sayin...

I'd love it, yes. And any who can make it to Origins, too. I just need to get past the main layout push before I can really think clearly about that part of things... but if you want to take some initiative there... :)

No problem.  I'll put myself down for a repeat of Dog Daze and I have an idea for a post dealing with Mab serial to it...

Please post your event times when you get them finalized, it's going to fill quickly if they're available at pre reg time (Just no Saturday Morning please...Killer Breakfast time).

Should be Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon.  Don't think they've been made official yet.

Has there been some "precision" on when the pre-order date is going to be?  I can't wait for that sweet, sweet PDF! :)

No. Much too compressed of a timeframe for there to be any change; expect possible updates on a monthly basis at best.

Evil Hat Joins Alliance To Bring Dresden Files To Stores Near You

Alliance Game Distributors and Evil Hat Productions are proud to announce that they will be teaming up to bring The Dresden Files Roleplaying Game to adventure-hobby retailers in June, 2010!

;D  Happy news but I'm going up the wall waiting for a price update (tomorrow is to far away!!!).  Glad to see that this project will push you over the top into widespread distribution.  Will this branch out to include Amazon for those folks who live in BFE and have no access to a book store or will direct order from Evil Hat take care of them?

I have no idea. If Alliance sells to Amazon, then probably.

That said, it's healthier for *us* if you choose the Evil Hat webstore over Amazon -- way more cash comes our way with an Evil Hat webstore sale. But if Amazon's your best choice, do it, of course. :)

I'm *hoping* I can at least do drastically discounted if not free shipping for preorderers in the USA.

Depending on whether they ship media mail or nor will make a huge difference in overall cost.  CONUS media mail rates for 10 lbs is super cheap (8-9 bucks?).  As long as there's a .pdf file with preorder I have no problem in waiting for lower priced shipping (media mail is typically less than 7 shipping days CONUS).  Besides, with a pdf I can take it to work and read it while I'm not busy  ;)

That's true, though the added benefit of a tracking number with UPS might make an argument in that favor... though it could be nearly double the cost. I'm exploring the options.

USPS does offer delivery confirmation on media mail packages. It would add a little extra $$ but not much ($0.80?)

Delivery confirmation is to package tracking as Victor Sells is to Queen Mab.

Hello

I would just like to say that for shipping to Canada, I (and I presume many others) way, WAY prefer UPSP to UPS.  UPS is maybe a day faster, but they charge you an arm and a leg for custom clearance.  And when you aren't there, UPSP delivered packages end up at the local post office for pick up, which for most people is much closer than the UPS depot.

I know this is pretty anecdotal, but I figured you might like to know.

cheers,

Is there any where we can sign up to be notified of the pre-order once its available?  I know I'd love to jump on it as soon as possible.

Keep an eye here on this forum and on the official website at http://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com/ -- you can use an RSS reader to track new posts on the website.  Or you can follow @dresdenfiles on Twitter, where you'll be sure to see notice as soon as the preorder goes live: http://twitter.com/dresdenfiles

I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but it's been bouncing in my head ever since I got the PDF today. Is there going to be a Game Screen with the books? I haven't heard any mention of it, and while I don't think there is, it would be great to see.

No current plans. But who knows? If the revenues are there, we can definitely investigate it.

Aren't YS110 and YS111 basically a "screen"?

Greetings

I've printed 410 and 411 double sided on lightweight card and laminated the sheet.  Works for me.
