DFRPG / Re: Pocket universes in the Nevernever

Interesting idea!  I wonder if there's a Henry Darger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Darger) section of the Nevernever in Chicago?  Running into the Vivian Girls would be rather creepy, IMHO.

Hmmm!  I hadn't thought of using minis with this game, but it's a neat idea.

Wizards used to have another CMG, called Dreamblade.  I'll bet you could pick up boosters really cheap on eBay.  The game was about people battling in their dreams, so the minis are quite surreal: http://ww2.wizards.com/DreamBlade/Gallery.aspx.  Some of them would make interesting summoned creatures.

Essentially with a blind spot you can't ever get better with that kind of magic (you can cast it, you just aren't particularly good with it), but you get an extra free specialization in another form. So Harry might have a blind spot for veils, but a double specialization in fire, right out the gate.

Harry compensates for his lack of fine control with foci, like the blasting rod for precise applications of fire.  How does that work in the game?  If Harry has a blind spot in control, does the staff partly or fully cancel the blind spot?  If so, what's the downside to the rod (besides that fact that it can be lost or stolen, of course)?

Dang, I cannot WAIT for this game to come out!

DFRPG / Re: updating?

Presumably Mr Butcher isn't going to stop creating monsters and factions to see and read about, so is there going to be an updated edition of the RPG covering whatever comes up in the novels after the initial printing?  Just curious :)

Fred's latest word on this topic is in this thread: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,12048.msg526470.html#msg526470

The RPG covers Dresdenverse canon through book 10 (Small Favor).  It should be easy to model any new material using the tools provided in the game (or so says Fred in a post somewhere).

BTW, I am not one of the game designers (I'm just a forum dweller like yourself), so don't take my word as final!

I AM NOT GIVING OUT A DATE REPEAT I AM NOT GIVING OUT A DATE if I give out a date I will be a lying liar and we will miss it. THAT IS THE CURSE.

Print+PDF bundles will definitely exist.

I am sensing a desire in you to give out a date. (Waves hand, Jedi-style) You want to tell us the release date.  ;)

Let me see if I correctly understand this concept. Is iron always a Catch for fairies?

DFRPG / Re: Suggestion for New Official Wallpaper

The site background is indeed gorgeous.  Except for the game logo, it meets your criteria for good desktop wallpaper already!  In fact, I just set it as mine.  I'll have to take it off soon, though, because I don't want to explain the pentacle vs. pentagram distinction to my fellow civil servants.  :D

No one has mentioned any kind of computer adaptation.  Jim reportedly has a background in LARP and tabletop RPing, and I assume he specifically wants to see his world made into a traditional RPG.  Which is cool, because I do too!

The Lycanthrope went up on www.dresdenfilesrpg.com today, for what it's worth. :)

Great stuff as always!  I didn't realize that lycanthrope powers were tied so explicitly to the lunar cycle.  I'd just assumed that they were that scary all of the time.

How much "power" does a death curse have?   Can they warp reality on a major scale?  Example:The curse erases the memory/records of a person's existence from the world.  Or is it more limited?  Example:For each day that passes, the cursed ages one year.

Good Lord, man, what kind of gamemaster do you have?  What terrible things has he done to you?  "OK Harlan, I want you to point to the places on the dolly where the bad man touched your character..."  ;)

Iago has been posting to the site's blog since he started this thread.  There's a post up about the pure mortal character type.  Stuff like this will help us get through the long, cold winter - thanks dude!

This game is taking a long, long time for you guys to develop.  As a result, I bet it's going to be fantastic.  Keep up the slow, steady work!

DFRPG / Typotesting round?
« on: November 06, 2008, 01:45:35 PM »
I haven't applied to be a playtester thus far for two reasons: 1. I don't have any play experience with FATE, and 2. I don't have a gaming group right now.  However, I want to contribute!

One thing I'm really good at is spotting typos.  So I was wondering if there will be a late-development round of typo spotting or the like.  If so, I volunteer my services.

Totally. I'll even go through the task of organizing the darn thing.

You, as the kids say today, da man!  :)

Yeah, same here. But I'm a total noob when it comes to tabletop rpg games. Never played a single D&D game in my entire life. I wish I could find some Dresden friendly folk in my area of southern california.

I think your best bet will be this website.  Once the game is released, there will probably be lots of gamers looking to meet up with one another.  In the meantime, how's the roleplaying scene in general where you live?  You will likely find D&D gamers easily enough, if that's what you're into.  If your tastes run more toward horror, seek out the White Wolf types.  Alternatively, there are great gaming message boards all over the Internet.

Good luck!
