See a thread you feel is worth preserving in the Display Case? After the board locks it, nominate it here. Be sure to give us a direct link and a brief summary of what it is/why it's worth preserving.
-
using this space for some suggestions as you recomended :)
The Q&A thread that was just moved to WoJ has a second Q&A session quoted on the second page that I didn't even know about for weeks after reading the first one in the OP, so I highly recomend editing the bottom of the OP to direct people to:
http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,11734.msg538824.html#msg538824
EDIT: Ack, there is another Q&A session posted on page 22 Post 321 (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,11734.msg780995.html#msg780995) from Lee's summit. I have to wonder if there are more I'm missing (kermit the frog arm wavy thingy while running around screaming)
EDIT2: Another Q&A session posted on page 16 Post 228 (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,11734.msg772851.html#msg772851)
Additionally, although this topic hasn't been locked by the board yet as the instructions for this topic imply being necessisary for nomination, but... Laura118b did a through clarification on what was actually said for the last question listed in the above link. Quoting here, and the quote has a link to the post.
I can answer to the veracity of the second quote, I asked him the question :)
The full question was if he had stated in the past, during an interview, that Elaine also was a candidate to have the potential to wield power over Outsiders. His longer answer was yes, he had said that before, that Harry and Elaine are just a few months apart age wise so for all intensive purposes the same age. He then told me that was one of the reasons that Justin had picked both of them to adopt, it wasn't just random kids with power. The key word in my question and his answer was potential.
I mostly asked this to settle a debate around here. A handful of us remembered reading the interview but none of us could find it anymore, so some other members wondered if it had ever been said or was just an example of people reading others saying it so often they thought they had really read it. So I asked him to settle the debate once and for all. ;)

I don't know how you might chose to handle this, but I recomend editing the 2nd Q&A post in the now WoJ'd topic to include the above quote.

Since nobody's done it yet, I'd like to nominate the first post of the Warden Case File on Harry (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,19774.0.html) for the Display Case.
-
Ah geez. There was a thread from a while back where people had collected all the known names in the DF so far and gave the etymologies of each one. It was pretty interesting and I was going to suggest it for the Display Case, but it looks like it has already been deleted. Any way to get that back?
-
Nope. Once something is purged, it stays purged. This is why it's important for folks to speak up about the rare threads they feel need to be kept!
-
I'm nominating this thread
http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,21712.0.html
But more specifically this post for the display case.
http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,21712.0.html
-
You mean for this: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,21712.msg946074.html#msg946074 (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,21712.msg946074.html#msg946074)
-
Bang!
Indeed that is the one.
-
I second the motion. That post needs to be saved.
-
Folks, the Display Case isn't for single moments of hilarity. It's for whole threads that are so insightful or clever or funny that folks feel purging them would represent a loss to the forum.
-
Besides, it wasn't even original; as much fun as I had tweaking it, it really belongs to the Old Spice writers. ;)

I'm unsure if this thread is monumental enough, but I've found it quite insiteful, and have actually quoted it in a few responses where people asked about mister, so I was hoping it could be placed in the display case. It's already been thread locked so it's in danger of getting purged.
http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,19545.msg864164.html#msg864164
Also, this post (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,17925.msg807429.html#msg807429) has a lot of comments from Iago that I've used similarly wrt inquiries about the DFRPG. It hasn't been autolocked yet but it's been dormant for almost 6 months.
-
I don't think it will ever get locked, but Serack's WoJ compilation deserves this

It's already stickied. It's safe!

Definitely this one.

Seconded!

http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,23066.0.html
Definitely this one.
The post, it has been locked and within a week it will be lost to us if it is not enshrined somehow. I recommended within the topic that it be put in the nostalgia nook, but I'm not sure of the nook's purpose. I figured this one was more nostalgic than trophylike though...
-
Fixed!

Although it is very much not my bag, it looks as though this thread about "Ships" (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,20073.msg883035.html#msg883035) was rather popular, and it is about to get canned by the autocanner, so I'm going to nominate it for the display case.
It was brought to my attention due to a comment by the OP (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,27282.msg1172079.html#msg1172079) in the new "dictionary" thread in the Spoilers, and I'm recommending to the OP that they do a redux and maybe maintain it it as new "ships" evolve.
-
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. :D
-
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. :D
tell me about it. ;D
updated, edited, not necessarily nominating for a sticky (seeing as the thread isn't dead or at the risk of purging) but I thought you oughta know: (Fan)Ships that sail (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,27358.0.html)
-
I suggest these (now locked) topics get put into the Spoiler Answers section.
TDF Characters by book (First appearance) (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,22615.msg974479.html#msg974479) (Due to be wiped and very valuable imo)
Soulgazing Harry (Series spoiler) (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,23754.msg1007330.html#msg1007330) (AKA List of characters who have Soulgazed Harry)

The most recent Weird means a lot to us in The SHOV (especially me) we had a ridiculous amount of posts (250 pages) and a lot of fun stuff happened in the SHOV during that time,i was going through a tough time and they were really supportive, just goes to show how awesome this forum is, if you would be so kind as to save that we would be most grateful.

I would like to nominate the original old posters thread. It has been wonderful to see people back!

Jim made lots of posts on June 21st of last year. I got 4 or 5 reported before I got a message saying I had to wait 2 minutes to report another one. They are easy to find using his profile.

Got 'em all! Well, got most of them. There were two that didn't seem particularly vital to save. :D
Thank you for your vigilance, my good sir!

The now locked "I bet you can't ____________ (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,31151.0.html)" topic in the "Jim Himself" board ended up being supprisingly popular. If I can get a few 2nds, I'd like to see it placed in the Display Case.
-
^ agreed
that was a fun thread
we should do it again one day :)
-
Thirded. :)

The DF books sticky "Perfect Casting, part 2" has hit 420 pages, might it be time for it to be retired and part 3 be stickied?
-
Serack, when FantaZero suggested that (trolling) there was a problem (see Fantazero posts in that thread, he was trolling to try to force that it was closed, and there was resistance). There is now a new part 3 thread which upsets me.
But yes, maybe we can stop 2 now if the mods agree.

Meh, I'm not actively involved in either topics, I just boggled at the size of the sticky, and it made me think maybe Part 3 should get traction. (and part 2 be enshrined in the "Display case" hence the suggested replacement mentioned here). It almost seems as though there might be some emotional attachment here.
-
In that, I agree.
-
In that, I agree.
Ack, I did 2 edits there, I know you didn't catch the 2nd, not sure about the first.
-
LOL, I had not caught any edits, I said I agree with the fact that it is a big thread and could be cut.
My turn to edit. This is what I said in page 401 of part 2 thread, but in part 400 there was a defense of the thread.
Well, I don't like the trolling, but actually, a part 3 could be a good idea. I understand that the forum prefers smaller threads. The part 1 is linked in the first post of this thread. We could do a part 3 with a first post with links to 1 and 2.

Links spliced in

I don't know what that means, Serack

I don't know what that means, Serack
You pointed out your desire for links to the predecessors to be included in the first post of Part 3, and I was commenting on how I had done that for you :)
-
Ahhh, yes, I saw that, thank you very much! :)
(the word "splice" make me think in an edition or something like that)
