Mission Statement:

The Society for the Advancement of Speculative Storytelling, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and mentoring aspiring and new writers of speculative fiction, art, and game design. In so doing, its activities shall include, but not be limited to, keeping its members informed of issues within the field, providing avenues of constructive critique and collegial discussion for its members, and encouraging interest and appreciation for all aspects of speculative fiction in multiple media.

SASS is now starting to open the doors, having recently done all the legal paperwork, and will have membership applications coming up soon (presumably the FB page will have updates!)...many semi-pros are already involved, with some full-time authors eyeing SASS for mentoring and networking. (Including known science fiction and fantasy authors.)
Art & Game design will be lagging behind slightly as SASS was originally conceived for authors*; as such, the board is made up of authors and the artists and the game designers have not joined as yet...but it is open to them! We'll structure those sections as more join.

*Originally SASF, and as such you'll occasionally see language in docs that says "fiction" instead of "storytelling."

... okay, I can't fight it any longer. What do you call the members? SASSies?

The designer of Mana Punk suggested we add "& Yoddeling" to the end.

I find it odd that when I post something like this, I always get the same about of views of the posts and few responses ;) It's like I have a stable of quiet readers.

I don’t mean to be rude but it looked like a straightforward announcement. Nowhere did I see a solicitation for thoughts, ideas or comments. So yes, I would expect a lot of views and people going “oh that’s nice” and then go about their business.

Where you looking for comments? Or just wanting someone to jump up and down and yell, “oh goody.”

And I really am not trying to be rude but it's almost 4am here and I guess I'm in a bit of a flippant mood.

Note the smiley up there. ;) This was in reference to most posts I make, and I was being silly. There's a trend for 16-17 views, hence the "stable of readers" silly remark.

  :)
Then please consider it a bit of silliness all around.

This sounds interesting.  Is it located anywhere else besides Facebook?  (I'm a Facebook hater.)

Hey, all my fiction that's been published has been set in a Gaming universe!  :)

I'm not big on FB myself; there's a board for members. There's no normal web page yet.

There you go. 2 for the price of 1.

I'm looking forward to signing up.  I've got me a fine stable of Beta Readers, but most are from around here, so it's a given we've got a lot of overlapping tastes.  It'll be useful to get some additional feedback from people who aren't as a rule Dresden/Alera/Firefly fans.

Is there a spot open for a High Lord Inquisitor?

People who aren't Dresden or Firefly fans just aren't living their lives right! I mean come on! Someone needs to write a fanfic about Dresden and Reynolds meeting each other. That would be worth a squee or two!

Anywho, I'll have to check this SASS out tonight, sounds really cool!

I'm barely on facebook...don't have to be a member to see the page ;)

The grand high inquisitor has been filled already. We could use a Low Enuciator, however.

Still trying to find your way PG?  Not satisfied as a Bartender?

The Deposed King

Well, I miss the old days, with my big red pointy hat and menacing black cart pulled by red-eyed horses with flaming hooves.  I was a pretty damn good Lord High Inquisitor!  People just have no respect for tradition any more.  They don't even through salt at me and hide their kids when I come around.  And I get practically no groveling.

*sigh*

'Who wants to live forever?' That's a weird theme song for a king, deposed or otherwise;-)

Most expeditions to search for the fountain of youth were funded by monarchies.

Monarchs, actors, and authors all require certain levels of ego. It's required, to put yourself in a position where people can take potshots at you, or your work. When you succeed, it becomes easy to want to live forever, especially when you're having a whole lot of fun.

How about: "Booooorn to be kiiiiiiiiings, princes of the universe!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEJ8lpCQbyw)
or :"I am the one, the only one! I am the god of Kingdom come! Gimme the Prize!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZQUVZKrH3I)

I like the sounds of this, Mickey.
Does it cost to join?
I'm not on FB either - don't like it much at all.
Don't know whether that makes me a Luddite or just cranky. ???

Ack, sorry. My bad on not checking this thread. There's a yearly fee.

New President is Michael Burnstein, old hand at these things.
I barely use FB. I had to join for another group.
