He still has the skull, but having Bob run the castle saves Harry lots of time. Bob can figure out how the house works and let Harry know of things that need his attention. This is especially important because Harry is deep in his post Battle Ground funk.
My personal theory is that since we now know hhwb wasn't sent by Justin, he was sent for him.
Which meant that Justin (who had hijacked Maggie's Starborn plan for his own ends) needed Harry and Elaine ready early, which meant abandoning traditional brainwashing/conditioning in favour of Magical alternatives.
Unfortunately for him, hhwb was able to turn Justin's anti-outsider wmd against him.
Yeah that could be it. It certainly seemed rushed after raising a pair of kids for 6 years.
Leah explained it perfectly imo, it's hard to get young wizards to believe in doing magical violence. Both dumorne and behind were more interested in manipulating Harry's choices than actually enthrallment or murder. Behind is shown heavily in book goading Harry(same as Cat Sith later 👀 ) but dumorne? Look at his scenes teaching magic, what he actually taught them. He could have indoctrinated them with their own power, made them believe it worked any which way he desired and connected them to him in a proper cult fashion. None of which he did. What he did was teach it to him pure, almost the same as Eb(I'd bet Eb would have been a harder teacher before failing Margaret), as power and strength, as an art unto itself.
Then he was goaded into two different(?) Battles to the death winning both by... Well, doing Death to the opponent. Seems to me they manipulated him into doing exactly as he did 🤷♂️ it's only factoring in Justin's intentions for Elaine that things get muddied.
We've talked a lot about this of late, and I am wondering if Justin enthralled her at all. There are a few things that don't add up and it is possible that she was only acting enthralled.
She had just as much devout faith in being a cop, but she compromised on that alot in Ghost Story and beyond.
Uriel and Vadderung are colleagues. If an Archangel tells someone whose devout that she'd still be fighting the good fight. Thats the next best thing from mission from God. Which she already turned down when she didn't pick up the Sword.
Murphy had been working with and alongside Einherjaar for awhile. She has respect for them as warriors. Besides I doubt she'd just serve blindly faithful.
I think there actually *is* a WOJ about her being a pain to Vadderung same way Harry is to Mab. iirc.
Which means if she hasn't, her free will has been violated, doesn't it? Though she could very well have agreed to it to stay in the fight.
I posted on reddit about Vadderung making a deal with Uriel for Murphy but I can't find the WOJ. Recent WOJ's have seemed hard to find as they aren't in Serack's compilation. Anyone have that WOJ handy?
The healing process might have been quicker.
Alright so this is my WAG.
I think Kemmler did a body switch into DuMorne at his final showdown.
It would explain how he knew where to pick up Bob from.
Also Kemmler is known to have loyal fanatical followers. Just like he tried to do with Elaine and Harry.
It also fits with Elaine being the leading contender for Kumori. Having been mind wammied enough to have a predilection towards Necromancy vs her good intensions.
It would fit with Jim's cryptic answers about Justine and Kemmler being equally dead:
