Site Suggestions & Support / Quote button?
« on: April 02, 2007, 07:07:52 PM »
Last few days, I'm noticing that when I hit "Quote" on a post where the person already quoted a previous post, my "Post Reply" window has the new text, but not the quoted portion.

Just wondering, is this a technical error or an intentional change? If it's the latter, I'd personally like it changed back; quoting, used properly, really helps the flow of conversation. I can understand it being annoying when someone quotes the entire 2-page post and just adds, "I agree," but in other cases, quoting is a good thing. :)

FYI

Lions of Tsavo is a permanent exhibit at the Fields Museum.

Thanks! ;D If I ever make it back to Chicago, I know what's on my To Do list.

I know this thread's been dead a while, but I just wanted to say that I think there are too many people online (I'm saying In General, not on this board) who equate "Debate" with "Argument".

IMO:
- Discussion is sharing ideas (opinions) with no agenda, no hurt feelings, and no necessity for Proof.
- Debate is sharing ideas with the intention of "winning". Done correctly, this involves supporting one's statements with cited links, quotes, or other helpful backup/Proof. And it is civilized, no hurt feelings. The participants can agree to disagree, but the goal of Debate is "usually" to convince people that one's opinion is valid, based on fact, etc.
- Argument is what happens when we get into "I'm right, and you're an idiot." Which results in hurt feelings. And it doesn't usually involve one properly backing up one's statements.

Just my spare change.

I haven't been to Chicago since before I moved out of Wisconsin. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if they still have the The Light and the Darkness lions at the Field Museum? I didn't find out about them until I'd already moved, so if I saw them, I didn't know it at the time.

Yay I'm so excited for this signing!

I have a question though, is there a limit on how many books we can bring to get signed? Obviously bringing all of them would be overkill, but I'd like to know if Jim has a limit of 2 or something. If anyone knows that'd be great :)

There's some more info about all the SoCal signings in this thread. As I recall, the number of autographs Jim will do in San Diego is limited only by how many people show up (fewer people = more time to sign), so bring whatever. :)

I always forget that you west coast people go to Hawaii the way we here in the midwest go to Florida.

I've lived on the West Coast since 1996 and have not once been to Hawai'i. Just thought I'd say so.

How's the weather?

Great!  I'm back in Los Angeles.  Another beautiful spring day today.  Though the winter has been a little dry, so fire season is going to suck.

Sounds like your weather's more pleasant than what we have out here in the California desert - it's way too early for it to be this hot! ...And, you've just made me that much more eager to move back to L.A. :P Don't have use for an English degree holder, do ya?

STEEEEEEeeeering the thread back on course.....

*salutes* Aye, aye, cap'n!

*tries to think of a question for Robert*

*fails*

*reboots*

So, Robert... Seven episodes later, now that things are a bit more settled, are you generally happy with the fan/critic reactions to the show? :)

OR

How's the weather?

OR

Are you pondering what I'm pondering?

We should send these posts to Quizno's with the message that their current ad campaign is not helping their financial outlook. :P

Hey, Valor. Looks like I'll be at the HB signing, after all! :D

So if a blond woman walks up and says, "I am but mad north-northwest," don't worry. ;)

Question: Can I bring my copies of SF and/or FM for signage? Or will I have to buy something at the store itself? I don't think I can afford a hardcover right now...

[tongueincheek]
Hey Robert.  Any chance you could talk to someone and get Quizno's to change their commercial out?  That young lady who squees about the meaty sandwich really freaks me out!  I don't think I'll set foot in a Quizno's until they stop airing it. ;)
[/tongueincheek]

Oh, good. I'm not the only one! :P

No, no you're not. That sound does not belong ...well, anywhere, actually. -Mickey

Hey, I got an edit-comment from Mickey! ;D That amuses me for no good reason.

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?

I noticed that too and being as i'm reading them all for the first time I have to always look somewhere to see what order whats in.

With Piers Anthony's Xanth series, I got in the habit of checking publication dates - which didn't help when he published more than one the same year. :P

I get the feeling I'm going to find myself driving three hours to either Orange or San Diego next month... ;)
