The question becomes, why?  One is simple greed, the other is financial problems, either one is sad for him and us..
Someone asked him to write a story and he did. We get it sooner or later

I think Harry has good relations with the svartalves now. His guard is armed by his them. They helped him acquire his castle. Molly and Mab might have smoothed things over.

Everyone saw a hole blown in the castles defences, by Ethnui, including Carlos. That was the point.

No one knew apparently about Bob the Castle. Bob is dismissive of Toot throughout the story unable to remember his name (shame on Bob the spirit of INTELLECT). someone used stealthy Gremlins to penetrate a known defensive lapse. Large number of suspects, likely an Accorded Member making it look like Harry blew himself up. More interested in making an example of Harry than in trying to obtain his toys. The spells Merlin.
Bob does know. He is playing.

If you own a Kindle you should download the sample from Heroic Hearts. International readers may not have the chance.  I don't know.
Works for iPhone/iPad as well. You get the complete story.

Oh yes Uriel believes in free will.

So does Mab.

How did that work out for Harry?
Mab believes in purpose, finding your purpose.

All time travel stories are paradoxical by definition since they break causality. If Harry is going to time travel and Butcher says he is, and if he is going to change things, then he has to explain the paradox since he directly pointed it out.

If his intent is to merely fix continuity errors he can use the dazzle them with footwork technique.  Spielberg did this in Raiders of the Lost Ark when he has Indy hide on a submarine in broad daylight in the middle of the Med.  He then ramps up the action and never gives you a chance to question it. That's one way and I would be okay with that.

He seems to have something more substantive in mind. I don't know the why but I think he's telling us how. His chosen path seems to be a branching history. This is Mirror Mirror in a nutshell. So if he is in a time loop, the idea may be that he has not returned to the future he comes from. The Dresden time line that we see doesn't contain Harry Prime.  That the reality the DFiles takes place in, isn't the the reality it started from.

What I would suspect if this were true, is that eventually Harry Prime ended  up in a place where things are falling apart. And goes back from the end of the world to loop through again to try and stop it. But this timeline is a product of the loop.  This is classic time travel fodder. So in this scenario the Harry we see isn't Harry Prime. Harry Prime is either dead somewhere in the past or hidden somewhere.
In a nutshell why I don't like time travel stories. I like causality.

DF Spoilers / Re: Is the White Council afraid of Harry Dresden?

I suspect (rather strongly) that (just like with "real" biology & reproduction) Bonea will be 50% Lash + 50% Harry... and NOT contain 100% of either; and that the Shadow in turn only contained a tiny fraction of Lasciel's knowledge:  the info most-likely to tempt one Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, the utility that would make him want more of the same.

Given that Lash had *just* promised to tell Harry about his mom & about the whole Starborn thing, that's the only bit of info that I'm (relatively) certain Bonea holds.

Next-most-likely, I think, are extra info on Outsiders, and secret/confidential info on the White Council & the Black Council, and/or any other powerful magical agents moving pieces behind the scenes.

Finally... I'm pretty certain that there's some info (info Harry would consider critical) that Lasciel never placed into her Shadow.  And, I suspect, there is some false information -- things Lash "knew" and Bonea "knows" that Lasciel implanted as explicit disinformation.
I do not think it is all that elaborate. The shadow was never meant to be active for more than a few days or at most weeks.

There is nothing strange about it. Some people just have more social skills than others and there is some luck involved as well.

Which is why it must be stopped. I think poor Carlos situation arose from being sexually abused by his Master, and the White Council wilfully ignoring it.
Most powerful wizards are a few centuries old. Now if a boy or girl is sexually abused we take it seriously, at least where I live. But the scandals of the past could continue for so long because people did think differently. They did not take the children's testimonies seriously and were easily cowed by people with authority.

The older wizards would not take these things as serious as we do and might think it more important to protect the wizard than the apprentice.

The White Council shouldn’t know about the Walker, they think that it was a wizards dual between a fully trained former warden and an apprentice which the apprentice won.

The White Council though never seemed to address why they had no record of Justin taking on Harry as an apprentice. They merely seem to accept he was Justin’s apprentice.
I do not think the council keeps an administration about these things.

Although I know you might not agree, we do know from Jim that these spirits existed prior to mortals being created. We know that Angels and many Gods existed before time began, before Creation. So a lot of things happened before human belief had any impact. Rather, they learned the stories from others. The beliefs didn't come from nowhere. Jim once was asked if there had been multiple Creators given that human belief changes things, and so as belief changes the retroactively empowered different beings. Jim replied that the questioner was assigning limits where there aren't any - that it isn't so much the beings that change but mortal understanding of who and what they are that does.
Hell as we now it now is a relative new invention. The old testament does not even have a clear idea about it. So the beings are there but the whole trappings as how they appear to us is another matter. Hell itself might just be part of that understanding.

Jim tells here far less than he seems to tell.

If Marcone is using magic without the aid of Thorned Namshiel then Butcher has broken canon over his knee.  Even if he picked up the coin in the helicopter you can't make a silk purse from a sows ear. But it's Butchers book and he can do as he pleases.

Before I commented I wanted to reread the fight. It plays out pretty much as I remembered.  Rudolph frightened out of his mind and left behind by Bradley at Harry's command. Picking up the gun that Bradly had taken from him. With bad trigger discipline.  A jury would never convict him of murder in the US. Maybe of no crime at all. And Harry has killed precisely one mortal with magic.

Butcher had to show Harry getting emotional relief for the events.  If he doesn't break down then the passage serves absolutely no purpose.  He has to show remorse and grief. And the reader has to understand the why. He goes through a lot of effort in Peace Talks preparing for this moment.

Remember why Corpsetaker need a powerful wizard in Ghost Story.
Lea explained that. Because just like Harry she was dead.

I'm not interested in the concept of absolute morality.  I'm interested in what Butcher wrote.  And he states it explicitly.
From the swords point of view. I think Jim uses both concepts.

Here's a logical syllogism.

If Butcher says the sword can only work against evil.
and it works against Harry
Then Harry was evil when the sword struck.

Seems clear enough. Take it up with the angel in the sword or Butcher, whichever you run across first.Neither was Lucifer unless you are saying that Harry was possessed or has picked up a coin again.
The sword can only work against the swords definition of evil. Now you get into the discussion if absolute evil exist and if there is absolute morality.

Some religions tell us that there is absolute morality but in practice moralities in different cultures differ.
