DF Spoilers / Re: Request help for finding recent topics here!
« on: December 05, 2012, 01:45:25 AM »
Looking for info about the Molly pov short story and when it might be published. Is there  a short story specific thread? or section? In some thread I can't find now, someone told me the story would be in an anthology called Bombshells or will be titled Bombshells.... just looking for more info....like publisher, editor, expected release date...etc..or general reference area that keeps track of such things so I'll know when it will be released..
Right now, the publishing date for Bombshells seems to be unknown.  More info here:  http://www.jim-butcher.com/books/dresden/side-jobs

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding, but I have a couple of questions Elegast
  • It doesn't make sense for Mab to work so hard to get an extra candidate for Winter Lady if she already has Sarissa and doesn't know about Maeve being taken.
  • Who exactly is the Eldest Fetch working for?

What about something like this scenario?

  • Maeve is infected by Lea unbeknownst to Mab
  • Mab notices Molly and sees potential for something (maybe another way to get a hook into Harry, maybe timey-wimey stuff)
  • Mab sends a message through the Gatekeeper to Harry to look out for dark magic (building foundations for Molly's apprenticeship)
  • Mab sends the fetches to keep Harry's attention focused away from the dark magic and eventually abduct Molly.
  • Black Council operatives including a Denarian attack Arctis Tor, insulting Mab's pride and clearing out extra guards, instead of pressing further in, the attackers retreat before Mab steps in personally.
  • The fetches bring Molly to the tower for whatever initiation Mab had planned for her.
  • Mab originally was going to bring Molly back, but Harry and company are coming to rescue her anyway so Mab "leaves".
  • In the fight, the Scarecrow reveals that Nemesis has infected him (by Maeve in Chicago), but Harry uses Summer fire to defeat him anyway.  Mab is smug about her underdog winning the fight.  To Mab, damaging the Wellspring is unfortunate, but she can immediately send her troops back.
  • Passage of time is altered in Arctis Tor, leaving the Gates undefended for too long.  Maeve is the only possible culprit, and Mab realizes that she has been infected, hurting her and causing her fury.

Basically, PG follows pretty much what Mab wanted to happen, but she gets surprised by the attack on Arctis Tor.  Mab loses a bit of control of the situation, but thinks things are going to work out anyway in the end.  At the last moment, Nemesis outplays Mab and gets guards off the Outer Gates for a time.  Eventually, Mab figures out who betrayed her and is furious.

Impressive Elegast, it lays out and answers just about everything from PG

I'm not really sure why she did that. Probably to tell him he was the winter emissary.
I was thinking that Mab was trying to warn Harry.  She can't move openly against an order that Maeve has made, but if she can move her own pieces behind the scenes...
The book might not mean anything to Harry, but it might have put hobs on the mind of id!Harry

I think I'll start a Mab Fan club.  ;D

Such a freaking genius. And with style.
Even with her hands tied, she pulls a major play from thin air.  The Calvin and Hobbes book is a roundabout way of warning Harry that Maeve is sending hobs.  I wonder if Maeve was hiding somewhere nearby and decided to scrap the kidnapping instead of going against everyone at once.  She had to know that the hobs were at best a distraction for Ivy.

*Joins Mab's Fan Club ;D

@Second Aristh--your earlier post made me want to read the scene from SmF again. There's one line you left out which seems like its foreshadowing the next book and might be referencing nemesis. After Nicodemus asks Harry if he is sure Hellfire was used at Arctis Tor, Nic starts this exchange: " 'Interesting. Then the only question is if the contamination is among the standing members of our Order or...' He let the thought trail off and glanced at me, lifting an eyebrow. I followed the logic to the only other people in possession of any of the coins. 'Someone in the church,' I whispered, with a sick feeling in my stomach.". Then Nic taunts Harry that they may shortly be on the same side...

Here is what I have so far for SmF.  I left out some of the ones that seemed to pertain purely to SmF, but if needed I can add them in later.  I tried to pay particular attention to things that faeries said because of their truth restriction.

Edited to more closely match formatting and condense everything into a book tag for easy cut and paste.

Oh that's certainly one that I will be including in this reference.  It was one of the preemenent ones on my mind when I created it.  It's a time consumer though and I'm doing it in blocks.
Okay, if you'd like to delegate some of the work out, I'm more than happy to take SmF.  I'll let you get a little ahead so I can match formats.

Nicodemus hints pretty heavily about

in his conversation with Harry in Ch.29 of SmF.  Is that more or less what you're looking for Serack, or would you prefer to focus on slightly more nebulous conversations?

One more interesting quote on Cowl if you wanted to add it.  We get that Cowl has heard of Dresden's ability, but never seen it firsthand.

DB Ch.8
Quote
"Bite my ass, Cowl."
Kumori's hood twitched back and forth between Cowl and me.  She took three steps back.
"Just as well," Cowl murmured.  "I have wanted to see for myself what has the wardens so nervous about you."

DF Reference Collection / Re: Cold Days Spoilers- Who isn't your Nemesis?
« on: November 29, 2012, 07:40:11 PM »
Yeah, but I think we have to assume that at least one of the Denarians is infected. And if we have to assume that, then we must consider the fact that Ivy might be infected as well.
SmF seems to give time and opportunity to get both Ivy and Marcone assuming that there is at least one infected Denarian.  Marcone did make a trip to the Vatican for an unknown reason during GS

Ivy falls into the same category as Mab, Rashid and Demonreach.  If she is infected the game is over and we have lost; therefor she hasn't been infected.
Why does Ivy mean game over exactly?

Mab/Lea can pretty well vouch for Molly.  Otherwise Mab would be in the same boat as the start of CD.

I agree about Mab and Demonreach being clear.  I think the last topic had some good points on Lara being clear because of Maeve wanting Justine as a vector to her.
Thomas by the same reasoning as Justine.  He could get to Lara just as easily.

I repeat, could someone please explain what DED dead is?
D-E-D dead is Jim emphasizing dead and being cute at the same time.

Okay, I just wanna say I finished reading Proven Guilty  just a while ago and I have a real quick question before the serious interview:  "Justin's behind everything, isn't he?"
Justin's dead...look, look...he's dead, he's dead.
Dead, dead?
Jim:  He's dead!
Very dead?
Jim:  D-E-D dead.
Are you ever gonna change your answer, dead?
Jim:  Dead.

I noted a similarity between Harry and Kemmler back when Harry ends up eating the nightmare.  He thereby gained back his power, plus more.  I didn't think though that Harry is Kemmler reborn at the time.  And, still don't.  But I am interested in wondering what Harry was meant to be, at least from the perspective of all those White Council bigwigs who feared Harry and/or what he was meant to become.
Apparently if the senior council pooled their knowledge, they would have all the information about Harry's past.  Seems like that would kind of undercut this theory before it gets much momentum.  If the SC knew that Harry was Kemmler reborn, I think they'd have a more violent reaction.

Quote
Q:  Given that so many creatures of the NeverNever know stuff about Harry – his mother, that Thomas is his brother, etc. – how can it be that the Senior Council doesn’t know?
A:  They know.  No one person on the SC knows everything about Harry, but between them all they could put it together.  That is a group where having information is a means of power; they each have a lot of information but they don’t necessarily know who knows what.
