Site Suggestions & Support / Re: How's the site doing this evening?
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:38:30 PM »
It was just down for me for 4 minutes or so. 10:37 AM EST.

It's cool, it's only a problem when using the mobile browser so it doesn't come up that much. I can live with it if it is too hard to implement.

Basically what it says in the topic. When I use safari on my iTouch to browse the forum, I will constantly log out by accident when I am trying to go to another area of the board. If it can't be moved, could you at least add a confirm page? It's really annoying to have to log back in.

Bought my Dragon Con ticket today. They've opened up some additional hotels for the overflow this week, so we'll hopefully have confirmed reservations tomorrow.  :)

*Got reservations at the Westin Peachtree Plaza, about 4 blocks from Dragon Con.*
Got tickets and a Room at the Westin through Hotwire. Really looking forward to the con.

Got my hotel Rez!  Now?  Should I pre-reg for the Con or buy tickets at the door?  HALP!  HALP!  Haven't been to a Con since the Star Trek Convention at the Americana in 1972!!

Pre reg. There is a good chance the con will be sold out if you try to buy at the door.

As long as he doesn't burn "BAD MOTHER F*****" on the staff, we'll allow it.
Now I want a staff that has BAD MOTHER F***** in Ogham or Futhark engraved/burned into it.

Darkest Hours / Re: New York City inaccuracies
« on: March 23, 2010, 02:06:41 PM »
Besides, any inaccuracies in the New York described in the book are explained away by the fact that is isn't New York. It's the Marvel Universe New York. It's an alternate timeline, and not every thing is going to line up.

As for physics of bending a manhole cover, Spidey could do it. His hand and arm strength are capable of lifting and throwing several ton armored cars and helicopters. By using both arms, he creates a natural lever to apply that tremendous force to a very small area. The steel would bend before snapping if the force was applied relatively slowly. And you can crush the wood and lead in a pencil causing it to break with two fingers, you just have to apply more force than a normal person can with their hand. For an example, use a pair of vice grips to crush a number two. Only two points of contact with a contact width roughly equal to a finger and thumb, but the pencil will break if you squeeze it enough.

Site Suggestions & Support / Re: Adding a few Moderators?

First off, sending a message like board member x is stalking me is basically a request to ban that person. Banning is done through a quorum of mods, and while you can report a person for breaking a post, a general pm like that is in bad form, and should have been ignored.

As for donating art for sale, there is all kinds of legal issue involved with taking you image and selling products based on it. Fred and Jim are the only ones who would even be qualified to respond to that, and frankly, they have more important things to do in their day jobs to be able to respond to a proposal sent in a non-professional fashion like a pm.

Not responding to either message is not a hint that your presence is unwelcome, but you taking it like that and airing your dirty laundry here is in bad form.

And no one is even throwing cars at them!
Not literally, but my behind feels like I've been hit by a car after I get spanked by a wrap shot.  :D

Your yardstick is a valid one, but combat is well, combat. Accidents can happen. The Duke in question broke his arm while using a new titanium vambrace, since it happened he went back to steel. And the gulf war injuries were possible when anyone is in a press of people with uneven footing. In either situation though, the people involved were not yahoos engaging in combat in an irresponsible manner. They were both authorized fighters using armor that conformed to kingdom and society standards.

It's much less dangerous than other sports, but we are hitting each other with sticks in a forceful manner. I love it, but there is a certain level of danger inherent in the activity.

SCA combat is VERY VERY safe.  No one has ever sustained a serious injury doing SCA combat (caused by the combat, at least -- some people get heat stroke, but not for lack of Chirurgeons and Water Carriers shouting at them to stop before they overheat.)
While it is true that no one has suffered life-threatening injury in SCA combat, I know several people how have broken arms or ankles in Heavy combat. Duke Gaston broke his arm when a shot hit his vambrace, and I know of another gentle who broke a leg falling off a ramp storming the castle at Gulf War.

I hate to worry a mother more, but there IS risk of injury in heavy combat, which is why you have to have a signed waiver on record before you can be authorized.

I just received a PM from a relatively new board member about the Intro thread.... He stated that it seems to have devolved into something like Weird instead of introductions, and decided to do intros through PM instead.

It might be time to cut off the current thread into something else and start fresh, since Maple Syrup cotton candy isn't that welcoming (certain fetishes aside :) )
