DFRPG / Re: FATE Core and DFRPG

The Magic Toolkit draft came out today.  Seems to be geared towards games with much lower refresh levels that DFRPG.  I really liked the "void summoning" ability.

I'm interested in the TimeWorks expansion:

"Want to have developed the iPhone? We can make it so that your firm had the idea before Apple. Want to get rid of a tricky rival? We'll make sure his parents never met. After all, it's only murder if someone gets killed. Not getting born doesn't count. Our time technicians are experts at moving the timestream in revenue generating directions. We're discreet, careful, and always on time. After all, we know you expect the best. Timeworks. Making time work for you."

This sounds like it would be incredibly useful if you wanted to have a campaign focusing around the Gatekeeper's Sixth Law enforcement squad.

Also, two quotes from Fred about updating DFRPG to Fate Core:

Read about the Paranet Papers here: http://www.evilhat.com/home/state-of-the-hat-2012-nov/ It's not going to include any kind of Fate Core update in it, though.

A Dresden Files Fate Core conversion would be of minimal use because there's so much legacy stuff in there that'll "corrupt" the mix, if that makes sense.

DF Reference Collection / Re: [CD spoilers] Small Favor

Do we know that Ivy was not infected? I mean she did hint to Harry right way in Changes, breaking neutrality just a bit. Slowly being corrupted and granting Ivy ability to take active role in matters of great importance. (Going against her nature of staying neutral)

That seemed more like Ivy rebelling against the Archive.

The specific point is important.

So If the headaches are due to the parasite, and the parasite is from Harry's encounter with HHWB, then something later must have trigered it's... rambunciousness.

Or there is another explenation that doesn't involve the HHWB encounter.

In White Night, Harry gets some major recurring headaches after Cowl sends him a mental whammy via Little Chicago.  He doesn't seem to have any particular headaches after Lash's death.  He doesn't have any headaches in Small Favor, but Turn Coat opens with one.

Maybe Cowl gave him Nemesis via LC, and the headaches are due to that.  Alternatively, maybe the Headaches in TC (and Butters mentions they've been happening for a while) were due to Uriel restoring that part of his brain that contained Lash as his "second intervention."

He Who Walks Within is actually the entity previously mistaken as Harry's subconscious.  It took root there after Harry's first encounter with HWWB, and has been running a long con to eventually subvert him.  When Lash first showed up, HWWW was happy to see her, since she would serve as another method of breaking down Harry's will.  After her apparent death in WN, a small remnant of her lingered around and began to slowly heal.

At this point, HWWW decided that the reformed, self-sacrificing Lash would not help his cause any further, so he began trying to suppress/destroy her while she was down; this is what caused the headaches.  It could also explain why Harry hasn't talked with him in so long; he's been busy.

How long has the White Council had the Blackstaff
Look for Celtic Lore around 1065 ad.
Now we have another search term to find the actual lore behind "The Case of the Stolen Walking Stick"

Battle of Hastings took place in 1066.  That was the last time Mab and Titania shared a civil conversation.

DFRPG / Re: What counts as Cold Iron?
« on: February 15, 2012, 11:30:04 PM »
It seems, going by the books, that Iron is Iron...but it might be interesting to play it so, say, cold iron does more to Summer fae, while hot iron does more damage to Winter.

While they would get quite warm when exposed to the friction of the barrel, I believe that any friction caused by the air would be offset by the heat lost from convection.

I am utterly convinced, in real world folklore, that people have utterly misinterpreted the phrase "cold iron".

"Cold iron burns faeries" is the basic folklore.

People have thus tried to figure out what "cold iron" means -- is it cold-worked iron, does it include steel, must it be meteoric iron, etc.

I think people are overthinking.

Remember, in folklore, one can thwart the faeries by turning your clothes inside-out. So, "cold iron" is just a reversal. That is, I read it so:

"Cold (room-temperature) iron burns faeries (as if it were red-hot)."

In the Dresdenverse, it's way more expanded than that, but I think starting from the idea that all iron and steel are poison to the fae is a good way to go.

I wonder, then if scalding-hot iron would fail to meet the catch.

To quote my brother: "To scare the shit out of someone and tell if they're lying or not."

I think I built each stunt in a way that showcased each of the different things you could do with stunts to help my brother understand the system. Probably could have done a better job of it, but it is what it is.

If that is your intent, then you may wish to reword it as "Jack can use Intimidate instead of Empathy to defend against Deceit."

Maybe it's only the Sidhe that can't utter what they believe to be lies.  Or maybe Toot-toot was just really deluded.

I would just upgrade to regular Evocation, use the refinement that came with that to specialize, and then assume the high concept prevented you from using additional elements.

Also, since the initial question was for a catch for Inhuman Recover/Toughness, +3 would be the maximum allowed.

DFRPG / Re: Question about tagging aspects
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:04:01 PM »
Larry the Demon puts "Must destroy the spawn of Satan" on Mary.  Larry then uses the tag to set initiate a compel.  The GM and Mary's player then discuss the compel; Mary accepts, gets a fate point, and flies into a holy rage (or rejects and pays the FP, etc.)

That is how I would set it up.

If it applies to unarmed attacks, then it's at the very least a +2 catch.  I'd probably give it a +3, unless the knowledge that unarmed/natural weaponry could damage him was a closely-guarded secret.
