You haven't crossed the biggest hurdle for Merlin to put them in there.  What was someone from medieval England doing building demon prisons in Chicago to put Gods and Monsters in?  Even the Norse didn't get that far inland.  And it was a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court not Harry.

The impression I got from Cold Days was that Merlin built the island long before Chicago was even thought of..  Would have to go back and reread that bit, but I seem to remember that when Merlin built it, it was done in multidimensional times including before the ice ages..

Yeah, I figure that was introduced as a substitute because LtW would now get in trouble for getting too close to someone the Council has excommunicated.

He's probably also not going to be very mobile to come to Harry, and Harry isn't welcome at HQ.
Yeah, but LTW can entrust the journels with Rivershoulders, and I'd like to see anyone challenge him... Or more likely Rashid could deliver them, he no doubt knows more than one Way though the Nevernever to get from Scotland to Harry's castle or the island, and nobody is going to follow him on many of those routes either.

On the Island, they get summoned there, right?  Seems like a better idea that way.  Ethniu was probably too big to properly summon (order of magnitude bigger than Titania, and she shattered Harry's circle in CD).  Once they're there, Alfred can take them downstairs.

I don't think the Warden went out to collect monsters typically.

Maybe not, but they were gathered up and somehow bond and put in cells.  Now it could be that the vast majority of them were taken and jailed in Merlin's time.  He may have done it first, then built the prison around them.

I have a WAG that says she did both in different times.

I don't dispute that, all I am saying is once Harry found out that she was a shadow in his head and
trying to win him over for lack of a better word so he'd accept the coin, he had a healthy skepticism
of most advice that she gave him.  Where he ran into trouble was his acceptance and willingness to use hell fire.  He wasn't aware or ignored the fact that it was corrupting him every time he used it.  It wasn't until Murphy sat him down and pointed out how he was changing that he began to reject that as well.

One possibility is that she hid the flaw in LC.

That could be.. Or she had something to do with fixing it.

DF Spoilers / Re: Who do you think the Vampires took from Eb?
« on: August 30, 2021, 03:30:56 PM »
Let's play connects the dots.  The New Madrid Earthquake happens in 1811. Eb's wife dies at or near that date and Maggie is born.  Slap me with a stupid stick but that seems to be pretty coincidental. And Northern Arkansas and New Madrid are in spitting distance and Eb maintains a residence there.  Would you care to guess who the target might have been?  Now consider that Jim has mentioned three historical events caused by Eb and that Eb took three shots at Raith.  Just spitballing mind you. But it adds weight to the idea Raith can't be killed by magic.

I think it is norther Missouri that Eb's farm is located in..
According to the National Geographic;

Quote
2:15 a.m. on December 16, 1811, residents of the frontier town of New Madrid, in what is now Missouri, were jolted from their beds by a violent earthquake. The ground heaved and pitched, hurling furniture, snapping trees and destroying barns and homesteads. The shaking rang church bells in Charleston, South Carolina, and toppled chimneys as far as Cincinnati, Ohio.

So very possible..

We learned in Skin Game that Lashiel is perfectly willing to "adjust" the perceptions of her host to get that host to act in the desired way.   We learned in Dead Beat that Lashiel was able to deceive Dresden even though he had not formally accepted the coin.

So key question, were there instances between Dead Beat and White Night where Lashiel deliberately deceived or hid things from Dresden (using her illusion power) to keep some important information from him - or perhaps to create false information from a trusted source.

Some possibilities:  Information that might identify "Cowl", information about necromancers/necromancy that bite him in Battle Ground, Something about the White Court?    No idea, but there do seem to be some possibility here.

Lasciel may have tried, but I doubt that her shadow actually did.  Remember once Harry realized the illusion of Sheila, he did question a lot of what the shadow told him and gradually she transformed into Lash.. However some could have gotten past him, but bare in mind at the times Harry was asking for information, often his life was in the balance.  It wasn't in the best interest of Lasciel for Harry to die, so the information as far as it went was accurate.

Somehow I don't see Listens using a death curse at all, it just doesn't seem to be his style.

It may foreshadow what Eb is going through in the present.

Yes,  I hope Jim does follow through with this.  Harry needs to know what Eb is going through but  from a less emotional perspective.

I like the ley line connection. I said in a thread a while ago that there must be some way for Wardens to jail monsters because bringing them all to the Island is not reasonable. But bringing them to a nexis point is reasonable.

Perhaps, but not advisable because of the danger of the power itself.  Remember in Peace Talks when Harry asked Alfred about his range for collecting Ethniu, he said it was the edge of the lake.  Now possibly if he drew on the ley line power, it would have been much easier, fewer would have died etc., but that didn't happen.  It wasn't even explored by Harry or suggested by Alfred, even though it was vital that Ethniu be locked up and as quickly as possible.  So  that says it either the power cannot be drawn upon by the Warden from anywhere or the consequences of doing that are too heavy.

I don't see the series changing locations, but I could see Harry inheriting Eb's place in the Ozarks.  I could see Harry visiting that place in a single novel and perhaps using it as a safehouse for another character.  Yes, Harry's new home is a fortress, but there might be a situation where the character Harry is working with can't be seen entering Harry's home.

The series doesn't have to change locations for Harry to get his inheritance from Eb. Though in a sense the series has changed locations and sort of returned from where it started.  With Changes, Harry's cozy basement apartment burned up, now he is returning to his lab with a castle on top of it.  Perhaps because the island, the apartment, and Arctus Tor just didn't feel right as home... Not sure the castle will either.

As far the Eb's journals and all of the older ones go, I don't expect Harry will get the opportunity to read through all of them.  However, Ebenezer's personal journal might be something Harry will get a chance to look through.  One thing to keep in mind is that Jim won't want to give Harry too much information, because that equals too much power.  Perhaps Eb's journals will be damaged before Harry get's the chance to read them and Harry will only be able to derive clues from them, rather than complete explanations.  Also, I could see the earliest journal, the one that supposedly was written by the original Merlin to be mostly unreadable with only a few words or symbols clear enough to make out, but perhaps just enough for Harry to learn something important from.  Most likely, only Bonea would be able to read them as they wouldn't be in modern English and it would be older than even Bob would have experience with.

I think it is vital that Harry get those journals, especially the early one that Merlin wrote if they can be translated..  I believe there are clues in them for the coming BAT that no one knows of, or if they did, would fill Harry in about.  Even Eb came with this "need to know" crap in Peace Talks and then told Harry he didn't need to know about his own life at this point!  Listens to Wind may be able to help.

Unless Eb moved them the point is moot.  They're in Scotland, where Harry is persona non grata.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't be shocked if Eb found a way so Harry would get them anyway.  There is Listens to Wind and there is Rashid, both might have access and get them to Harry.

For magic to work it requires a great deal of mental focus.  If Eb has any form of dementia, he couldn't be throwing around magic that is well beyond Harry, (and he did so in the most recent book).  He also was able to match Harry in a physical confrontation when they fought.  I see absolutely no signs that Eb is fading either physically, or mentally.  His prime may have been at like 150, but he's still way beyond Harry in magic, and is still physically very capable, more so than most vanilla 40 year olds.

Not if it was in it's earliest stages, or the result of say a mini stroke.. And that's the point Eb is so far beyond in skills it might be hard to tell especially if you've never seen him fight before, all out.  Harry was able to fool him with his doppelganger, the Blackstaff should have been able to see through that.  Emotional involvement could have something to do with it, but still.  Also Eb's reaction, he knew he lost control, he of all people should never have done that.
