The question was asked over in the Cinder Spires subforum, but I think it bears asking here, too.
Is there any chance of an early release of The Aeronaut's Windlass at DragonCon?
-
I heard months ago that Jim had floated the idea to Penguin, but I don't recall if a decision was made. I'll ask!
-
If I do go to this one, I'll gift Jim with a large cooler of ice, because if they do early release it there, a large quantity of them will probably be signed in advance, in addition of all the live signings he will participate in.
-
I just looked at my collection, I have zero books by Jim that need signing. Unless the Cinder Spires book is available at con I can actually skip the signing lines... Who would have thunk it?

Going to Dragoncon for the 14th time

Same here. Hell, if the publisher does allow an early release, The Missing Volume will probably have several stacks of signed copies, meaning you can still skip the signing lines :).
-
Penguin gave out a few dozen Cinder Spires ARCs at SDCC. If they decide not to release the book early at the con, I expect some lucky fans will still come away with copies for signing!
Though the ARCs don't have my maps in them, so really, what's the point of them? :D

must. see. priscelliemaps.
That's one of the worst things about e-readers, is the map rendering.

Ack! If it wasn't signed while I watched it doesn't count!
Anyway, Jim Butcher signing lines have the coolest fans in them. Totally worth it.

True stuff, when I did the DC signing in 2012, I found myself right behind Tiracakes (http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php?action=profile;u=4718), who built the original WoJ interview link sticky.

I cant find him listed on the website anywhere. I cant go to Dragoncon, but I have someone that is willing ot take a book there for me to get autographed as long as i am taking care of any costs involved

He's still listed. http://dragoncon.org/?q=guests#B Scroll down a bit.
Priscellie: Any word on a potential early release of The Aeronaut's Windlass?

As slayn points out, he's going. As for costs it's just the line you have to wait in. He doesn't charge for book signings (does any author?)

(does any author?)
That depends on how you want to define it. A lot of really big authors (King, Martin, even Jim I think) often do events that you have to buy a ticket to attend, but can get a book signed afterward. Whether you consider the cost associated as payment for hearing them speak for an hour or for the signature is a matter of semantics.
That said, all of Jim's signings at DragonCon will be free, you just have to wait in a (very long) line (or show up really early).

I'm glad I saw this - I usually just go straight to eBook but I didn't know there would be illustrations! Too bad I can't get it before DragonCon so YOU can sign it, too, Priscellie!

Unfortunately, no. It's very possible they'll find a few more ARCs to give away, but the book will not be for sale at DragonCon.
-
Anyone here going to DragonCon this year? I'm tempted.... But darn, the crowds. Do we know what events Jim will be doing?
-
You can find most of Jim's talks on the Urban Fantasy track's website: http://urbanfantasy.dragoncon.org/ (http://urbanfantasy.dragoncon.org/)
Looks like he's doing panels at 10pm on Friday and Saturday, 10am solo in a ballroom on Sunday and another panel on Monday morning at 10am. Last year he also had a talk on the writers track and another showcase on the main programming list.
Signings are scheduled as well.
Hope this helps.
Danny
Attending Dragoncon since 2000

Posted Jim's full schedule in the first post!
-
Added one more event:
1:00pm - 2:00pm: Autograph Session at Badali Jewelry
Location: Booth #2422 & 2424, Dealer's Room at the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart
Note: Free Ticket Required for Signing, Available at Booth #2422

This will be the first year I don't have anything for Jim to sign.
On the bright side, that means I don't have to camp out in autograph lines for hours and hours :).
-
I know! Looks like Jim is in for a long session (two back to back) Lots of fans getting signatures!
Next year for CS:TAW (too early for abbreviations?)
Danny
-
He's done that in the past and it's actually a really great idea, assuming the author can handle it, because he won't stop signing, even during the break between sessions.
I'm considering just ordering a signed copy of The Aeronaut's Windlass as I may not attend DragonCon next year (and even if I did, there's no guarantee Jim will be there) and I live in a wasteland that no authors ever seem to visit.
-
DragonCon is one of his fiancee's favorite cons, so I wouldn't be surprised if he attends next year, too. :D
And I'm trying to arrange Aeronaut's Windlass book plates for Jim to sign at DragonCon and Salt Lake City con. I'm HOPING to have the map ready for sale at DragonCon, too.

If you see this Map on sale, Slayn, pick one up for me! ;D

I will be recording Jim's panels for the forum again this year. There is an exception - I learned last year that the Writer's Track does not allow recording of the panels so I will not be able to record "New York Times Best Selling Authors" on Friday or "Magnificent Men of Sci-Fi/Fantasy Fiction" on Saturday. But I should be able to get the rest of the panels.
I am also organizing and photographing a Small Favor mini-shoot at the Saturday night Aquarium Party and a large (currently 30ish people signed up) Dresden Files group shoot on Sunday, so keep an eye out for pictures!
-
Looking forward to seeing that many Dresden cosplayers in one place. It won't be as trippy as the 30 deadpools all singing Bohemian Rhapsody last year tho. Unless...

Is there a cap on the number of books he'll sign from one person at a time?
-
Is there a cap on the number of books he'll sign from one person at a time?
Generally it's two or three, depending on whether you want just a signature or if you want him to make it out to you. You'll be told that you can go to the back of the line and wait again to get more signed, but it's been my experience that so many people show up that Jim can't get through them all in the time allotted, so going through the line a second time is basically impossible.
If you've got a stack of books, I suggest bringing a friend or two with you and/or making nice with the people around you in line that have just one book to be signed.

Thanks for the info! 2 days and counting!!
