DF Reference Collection / CD Spoilers: The Case of the Stolen Walking Stick
« on: November 28, 2012, 02:17:04 AM »
Mother Summer mentioned how Mother Winter had difficulties travelling anymore, ever since she had her walking stick stolen. Now, this is Mother Winter, the steel meat cleaver flinging, tooth trophy keeping, monstrous devourer who epitomizes entropy. While her motivations her great, methods can really scare a person. Not a nice person by nearly any stretch of the imagination.

But, back to the walking stick. It was stolen. She can't move around without it, so she probably wants it back. What other staff-like artifact do we know of that the owner wants back, according to WoJ? Which one fits the Ender of the Winter Court?

I'm thinking the Blackstaff is her 'walking stick'. That she hasn't reclaimed it is up for debate. Maybe she somehow doesn't know who is in possession of it, maybe she is prevented from acting with all of her stupendous power. Perhaps she is playing around with her food, waiting for the chance to get revenge on the entire White Council, or until a less desired Blackstaff (the position) comes around. McCoy could be very useful to her, perhaps.

DFRPG / Lord Raith: Lawbreaker?
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:44:20 PM »
Does Lord Raith qualify for Lawbreaker? We know he has killed with magic, and used Outsiders to do so. (For those who don't remember he was involved with the ritual spell that killed one of the pornographic models in Blood Rites, and we can't forget Harry's mom. And since the ritual was backed by an Outsider, it seems like a 7th Law violation as well)
White Court Vampires do have some kind of soul, as near as we can tell (Thomas and Lara have been soulgazed in front of us), so it seems logical it can be tainted by dark magic.

DFRPG / Another Possible Rebate?
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:10:00 PM »
I am curious as to what people think about a 'No Thumbs!' Power/Rebate. Not having thumbs (or similar grasping body parts) is extremely limiting in many cases. Can't pick stuff up normally (so no weapons), can't drive, can't even open a round-knobbed door! I think this should be something you get points back for. So I am suggesting a Rebate for it.

My idea is that it only applies when you can't have a grasping body part. If you have shapechanging, you don't get it, since you most likely have a form change that would suffice. If you qualify, you aren't human, so that means this rebate would not stack with Pure Mortal.
My main question is what it would give back. +1, +2? Maybe even +3?

As far as who would get it, I'd say snakes and other full-time animal forms (not including primates) are the main recipients. Others can come up with different Rebate recieving creatures.

DFRPG / Warning to Chat Using DFRPGers in this Forum
« on: November 28, 2010, 05:18:36 AM »
I figured I should warn everyone here that starting today, any full discussion of the DFRPG in the Public channel in the chatroom is now punishable by a 72 hour ban from the chat. Not the forum, the chat alone. It hasn't been posted, although it is official.

It should be in the rule book, when they put it up.

DFRPG / Anybody in Boise?
« on: November 22, 2010, 03:55:39 AM »
I recently moved to the Boise area, and I am curious if there are DFRPG players here. I would like to find a real-life group to play with.

DFRPG / Character Concepts, Video-Game Style
« on: September 25, 2010, 02:18:19 AM »
An obvious theme for characters, in my opinion. How would different video games stat out?

Fable seems simple, with Strength, Toughness, a bit of Speed and Recovery, Channeling or Evocation for the magic, and lots of stunts in some of the three branches of fighting, Strength, Skill, and Will. High Weapons or Guns (bow, perchance), throw in a bit of the magical skills.

Assassin's Creed would run either as Pure Mortal or maybe a Scion, what with Eagle Vision and some of the things a character survives.

Crackdown is all of the Strength, Speed, Toughness, Recovery, maybe a Claws to represent the 'iron' fists they have. Then Guns and Explosives stunts.

Overlord could make a good BBEG, what with Domination, Supernatural Toughness and Strength, Evocation, and lots of Minions.

What others would be fun?

DFRPG / The Master Chief In DFRPG
« on: September 20, 2010, 07:34:24 PM »
How would you stat the Master Chief, or any Spartan, for that matter? Maybe the Covanent can be stated as well.

Spartan II
-2 Inhuman Strength
-2 Inhuman Speed
-2 Inhuman Toughness
-2 Inhuman Recovery
+2 Catch (Severe Trauma)
-_ Stunts
+2 IoP (Mjolnir Armor) (Pick and choose to fit Refresh, different models had different abilities)
   -2 Supernatural Strength
   -2 Supernatural Speed
   -2 Supernatural Sense Mod (Radar)
It Is What It Is, Armor:3 vs. All
-4 Modified Enchanted Item for Shields, +7 Block, 3 Uses Per Scene (Approximately 3 Refinement could afford this, plus another for not having Ritual or Thaumaturgy)

Skills*: (Sumberged [35], 12 [40], 14 [45], 18 [60, at +6])
+5 Guns, Athletics
+4 Fists, Alertness
+3 Endurance, Intimidation
+2 Presence, Conviction, Discipline
+1 Stealth, Rapport, Survival, Scholarship, Driving

+5 Guns, Athletics
+4 Fists, Alertness, Endurance
+3 Stealth, Discipline, Intimidation
+2 Presence, Conviction, Driving
+1 Survival, Scholarship, Rapport

+5 Guns, Athletics, Endurance
+4 Alertness, Discipline, Fists
+3 Conviction, Survival, Intimidation
+2 Driving, Presence, Craftsmanship
+1 Might, Scholarship, Survival

+6 Guns, Athletics
+5 Alertness, Fists, Endurance
+4 Discipline, Intimidation, Weapons
+3 Conviction, Presence, Intimidation
+2 Driving, Scholarship, Might
+1 Rapport, Contacts, Craftsmanship, Investigation, Empathy

*Besides Guns, Athletics, Fists, and Alertness, feel free to swap around a bit. Every Spartan was different. These examples vary a bit. Some drive, some will use Energy Swords, etc.

You could play as an unarmored Spartan for -6, although they would have a number of Stunts, so I'd say a Submerged could cover one with old armor and some Stunts.

Grunt
Refresh:
I Dunno, not much. Maybe a Suicide Stunt
Maybe -2 Inhuman Toughness, with a Catch of Headshots. The confetti popping out is a sign.
Skills:
Guns +3
Athletics +2
Alertness -1 (They suck, you catch them asleep in a warzone)
Discipline +1 (gotta give them some, a hundred of their buddies are killed in front of them, and they will still charge in some cases)

DFRPG / An Actual Fullautomacchius
« on: September 11, 2010, 02:00:06 AM »
I wonder, if a GM was fine with it, could you make a broken Sword of the Cross into a Gun of the Cross? My inspiration was the Dark Tower series, and Roland Deschain's revolvers made with Excalibur.
The Gun of the Cross would have to be able to hold the nail, so it'd work in a rifle, shotgun, maybe a revolver. A revolver would probably fit the image better.
It'd have the same abilities, just It Is What It Is would be a gun.

My idea for the backstory for one of them goes like this:
Amoracchius was taken into the West by the user, to stop some big evil (a Naagloshii, perhaps). In the course of the fight, the Naagloshii scares/tricks/hires someone to pervert the Sword, and it is destroyed. A priest or some-such saved the nail, and took it to a devout smith. He didn't know how to make a sword, but he could make a gun. Thus, the Gun of the Cross was born. It was given to a sheriff, and he fought evil with it, and he passed it on to his apprentice, and it kept getting passed on.

DFRPG / Grappling Versus Incite Emotions?
« on: August 30, 2010, 09:02:19 AM »
A grapple is a block against actions. Does it block Incite Emotions? All Incite Emotions needs is contact for some uses. I mean, it seems to me that Inciting wouldn't be blocked by hugs. It might even be stronger.

We've seen Thomas Incite when he is half-insane, nearly unconscious. I don't think nearly intimate physical contact would stop it.

DFRPG / Magically Giving Oneself Powers
« on: August 24, 2010, 07:16:08 AM »
Okay, so with Sponsored Seelie Magic, you get biomancy at the speed of Evocation. How would you use that to give yourself Speed, Strength, Recovery, or Toughness powers? My idea was to make each refresh represent a shift of power, with more being added for how many exchanges it would last.
Say I had a guy with 5 Conviction and Discipline. He had Sponsored Seelie Magic. Could he cast an Evocation at five shifts that gives him Inhuman Strength for 3 exchanges, or Supernatural Strength for one exchange?

This would be for a Summer Knight without any magic besides what was given to him. He needed a leg up in fighting super-strong baddies, so he used the magic he was given to make himself stronger.

DFRPG / A Witcher (Or Hexer)
« on: August 14, 2010, 12:49:32 AM »
I am curious, how would you guys sort out a witcher (a la Andrzej Sapowski) for the DFRPG? It seems like a high refresh character, with these powers, for sure:

-2 Inhuman Speed
-2 Inhuman Strength
-2 Inhuman Toughness
-2 Inhuman Recovery
-2 Supernatural Senses (Enhanced Hearing, Enchanced Sight, Enchanced Smell)
+_ The Catch (Needs to be +1 to support the physical powers)
-0 Wizard's Constitution Variant
IoP +1 (Kaer Morhen Medallion)
-1 Supernatural Sense (Magic)
And it would probably need,
-2 Ritual (Elixers/Potions)
-2 Channeling (the Signs/Spirit)
Stunts out the kazoo

For a Submerged game, I see the skills like this:
+5 Weapons, Athletics
+4 Endurance, Lore
+3 Alertness, Conviction
+2 Presence, Intimidation, Discipline
+1 Scholarship, Investigation, Fists, Contacts, Resources

DFRPG / Statting the Einherjar
« on: July 28, 2010, 05:05:48 AM »
Pretty obvious question here. How would a person stat an Einherjar, besides having very high guns, fists, weapons, discipline, athletics, endurance, contacts, and resources skills? Ever-living warriors have those kinds of skills.

Possibly Inhuman Recovery (I dunno what their Catch would be), definitely some Stunts, and after that I do not know.

Seeing the Einherjar armory, you know they have weapon 3s and 4s on hand, and training on how to use them out the kazoo.

DFRPG / A 'Good' Necromancer
« on: July 24, 2010, 07:51:11 PM »
I am thinking of making a 'good' necromancer character. No name yet, just some simple backstory and the refresh.
My thought was that this person was a small time necromancer, messing around with life and death. He went to Chicago a few years back, and started seeing horrible things like Kemmler's Disciples torturing people and ghosts. At the end her saw a different form of necromancy. A man riding a giant dinosaur into battle against the baddies. He renounces messing with humans, and only works with animals. He studies paleontology, etc. and works on messing with prehistoric animals. His strength limits him to going back to the last Ice Age (for now).

His refresh would be...
Supernatural Sense [Death] -1 (Optional)
Channeling [Spirit] -2
Thaumaturgy ['Wild' Necromancy] -3
Lawbreaker Stunt [Fifth Law] -1
Sight -1 (Optional)
Refinement x# -1x# (Optional)

He'd have a Trouble involving Necromancy and the bad juju it is often associated with, and the High Concept is pretty obvious as well. His Lawbreaker involves past dealings, but he is reformed.
Any other suggestions?
