DF Books / Re: White Council Groups and Senior Council Clarification

In hindsight perhaps each of the senior council has a role they fulfill for the council specifically, Merlin the leader, Rashid the Gatekeeper, Listen to Winds medicine expert, Martha Liberty information gathering, Ancient Mai ambassador to other supernatural powers, Simon Peitrovich and McCoy as the all around magical heavyweights which just leaves LaFortier and Cristos who seem useless in compared to the others.

DF Spoilers / Re: Cowl's Identity [FPOTM2 11.2016]
« on: July 06, 2017, 06:17:06 AM »
It's probably been suggested somewhere before, but I couldn't find it.

Mirror Mirror Harry saves his ass by pulling other Harrys out of their universes and lets them bite the dust for him. It's supposedly a trick he copied from Kemmler, who used it a couple of times. (his Bob might have still had the knowledge and shared it with him)

I was thinking that maybe Cowl is one such Kemmler from another universe. The one who managed to make sure that the trick didn't work this time. Hence his contempt for the loser Kemmler and his lackeys. Despite the fact that he shares most of their hobbies.  He hasn't figured out how to get home yet, or maybe he doesn't want to because he's better off in this universe.

So far I haven't come up with a showstopper for this idea. If you find one, take it apart please  :)
Is this a theory or a WOJ? I always thought Kemmler and by extension Cowl used Necromancy to survive death curses, it would fit the theme of each of Kemmler's apprentices using one of his abilities, and Cowl being the most dangerous chose the most useful ability.

You know its the little things that makes you appreciate this series, Polka Will Never Die as pwned, the Erlking's mortal connection being the FBI, known for rescuing lost children, etc...

It's not the kind of thing you're eager to talk about.

I know right just the other day my mother told me my father left his wife for her when she had me and that they got divorced two weeks after I was born. That explained twenty years of forced smiles by my half-brothers mother and the polite hatred directed towards my family by the baptists :-\

This site is 30% theory, 30% conspiracy, 30% conspiracy theory, 30% theory conspiracy, and 20% bad at math.  One more isn't going to break--

Don't forget sixty percent Outsider possessed Russian spammers :)

I was confused about Archangel because I believed that the Wardens were for all intents and purposes the heavy hitters but it is possible that some wizards would rather be less formal like Ebenezar was after he left the Wardens. As for LaFortier Harry did know that he was the Black-staff and still made that statement hence my confusion I mean Harry can be an unreliable narrator but I do not think he would drop the ball on something that important.

DF Spoilers / Re: The most frightening Denarian yet?
« on: July 04, 2017, 04:26:57 AM »
For the longest time I believed Ferrovax was Nemfected at Bianca's ball.  However my brother came up with what I thought was a pretty good idea.  Jim said that Ferro's gift was gold, and jewels.  My brother said that maybe one of the gold coins was from one of the Fallen.

That's a pretty scary prospect right there.  A Dragon joined with a Fallen.  This makes sense for a few of reasons.

1.  Nicodemus believes the Black Council is working with some of the Fallen, and wants them stopped.  So Cowl getting one of the Fallen he's aligned with to Ferrovax makes sense.

2.  There was an attack on Arctis Tor, and when Harry saw the damage he commented that he couldn't have done that much damage even with Hellfire.  Well a Dragon using hellfire probably could.

3.  We would actually see a fight between a Knight or Knights, and Dragon which sounds like something Jim would want to write.
I believe you have to be mortal to be affected by the Fallen, Dragons are semi-divine they are immutable and have limitations when in the mortal realm. But an Nemesis infected Dragon might cause a Civil War amongst the other Dragons and Kaiju, or any other supernatural powers whatever causes the most Chaos.

DF Books / White Council Groups and Senior Council Clarification
« on: July 03, 2017, 11:43:39 PM »
So I have been looking for the answers to these two questions for a long time, and have come up with very little in the books, so I hoping someone else might know if I overlooked something.
1. What was  the purpose ofArchangel the location and how many inhabitants did it have? Bob reffered to it as a brute squad in Dead Beat and made it a separate group from the Wardens, and other members of the White Council, and in Blood Rites Ebenezar said that the attack killed more members of the White Council in its history so it must of been a very important group.
2. What type of magic did Aleron LaFortier use to justify him being a Senior Council level wizard?. Again in Dead Beat strangely enough considering my questions, Harry said that Ebenezar was the youngest and least powerful of the Senior Council and considering he was the Blackstaff he must of been more formidable then he appeared.
I only ask because I do not think these will ever get answered in the books and again just hoping for clarification if I missed something.

I believe that was a generic give me your eldest child Sidhe Tradition, at least originally, that was in the third book where the mythology was getting worked out, but in hindsight I think it was one of those things that happened to work out, this might have been answered in the WOJ section if you want more details.

DF Books / Re: Question about the first law

Well I meant that if a wizard was causing too much publicity and skirting the first law and otherwise being a nuisance to the rest of the supernatural world that they would task the Blackstaff with ending the problem. The White Council is many things merciful is not one of them.

I do recall in Dead Beat that Grevane said he saw the True magic on Harry, at first I did not know what he was talking about as up to this point Harry has never encountered necromancy before, but perhaps his encounter with He Who Walks Behind, was a form of it. Or he could have been referring to his First Law infraction, or both, re-reading is always fun, you never know what you will catch again.

DF Spoilers / Outsider Magic

So Vittorio Malvora and to some extent Lord Raith have used Outsider magic but how it is used varies differently, enhancing the formers power, and removing magic on the latter. He Who Walks Behind is the source for both of these so is there a reason for the contradictory powers? And on another note Cowl has been said to use Outsider magic but I cannot remember, where did he use it in White Night somewhere or is this just speculation I took as fact?

But most Wizards don't know about the Blackstaff.
[/quote]
True but most wizards are already risk adverse, and would not want to risk the wardens wrath or attentions, but the Blackstaff is someone you go to as a last resort, accidents and disasters do happen, as the Council would say.

It would most likely be a case by case basis, killing in the name of the white council, probably okay, killing for profit, you are looking at a response of some kind. In any case I doubt any wizard wants the attention especially since the Blackstaff can take matters into his own hands.

DF Spoilers / Senior Council Magic Speciality
« on: June 14, 2017, 05:28:11 PM »
So we know what Ebenezer McCoy, Listens to Winds, and Arthur Langtry, abilities in evocation and thaumaturgy are, and since Peace Talks will most likely have them slugging out with one another, I was curious if anyone knew what Martha Liberty, Ancient Mai, the Gatekeeper, and Cristos abilities in magic, elemental or otherwise were? For that matter even though it is a moot point what did Aleron LaFortier bring to the table, since he was Cristos mentor maybe there is some overlap.

I think the nature of the internet has made everyone forgetful about perspective and exacerbates instant gratification that people can't see the forest for the trees. The average book wait for popular series is about two-four years even without other projects or personal matters and that is not even taking into account quality of said books. I mean A Feast of Crows and a Dance for Dragons took five years in publication and nothing happens except setting up for events that may eventually happen in the next book in maybe six years later. The supposed main villains the White Walkers make about two appearances, (no seriously I am not kidding two) and has the most boring and least impactful character in contemporary fantasy in Quentyn Martell. In Cold Days Harry fights Outsiders with Santa Claus, and in Skin Game pulls a heist into Hell. Granted having the premise of Peace Talks be who would win in a fight between who, does not help the geekiness in us all but we have been lucky so far that the books have been published yearly and even more so that they have been increasing in quality which I thought was impossible for a book that had a zombified T Rex in it but humility is a virtue just like patience is
