DF Spoilers / Skin Game Earth Magic
« on: September 29, 2017, 08:27:38 PM »
So in Skin Game when Harry was talking to Murphy about the Genoskwa he mentioned that it used earth magic the same way the Forest People used Water magic. I did not understand what he meant so could some go into more details if they know because all I got was that it was a form a defense but I do not see how that could not be water or air magic as well.

DF Spoilers / Drakul Theory
« on: August 29, 2017, 08:04:38 PM »
So I saw this thread in the Dresden Files Reddit about the nature of Drakul and I have my own theory that has its origin in Grave Peril. In that book Michael calls Mavra "blood of the Dragon that old Serpent." Now Drakul was known as the dragon, as for the serpent, well in the bible there was a serpent who tricked Eve into eating the apple, and contrary to popular belief the serpent was not Lucifer, and as Drakul is trapped in human form it seems logical what his punishment is if you take it as a metaphor. Be a curse to humans and being hunted by them in turn seems to fit and it ties vampires in the demonic hierarchy as well.

DF Spoilers / Entropy vs Entropomancy and other misc questions.
« on: August 24, 2017, 10:24:47 AM »
Okay just about finishing up my re-read of the Dresden Files and just have a few quick questions/clarifications.
1. What is the difference between Carlos's entropy water magic and Entropomancy that the Fomor and other magic users use?
2. I was reading the Dresden Files RPG Our World, I play it with friends, and it mentioned Molly Carpenter in Small Favor was trying to learn another element evocation aside from Spirit and Wind. Aside from the spirit shield at the beginning I do not recall any other element she tries to use unless I overlooked it or it is in another book?
3. Lastly, do the winter or summer mantles give you the ability to do magic in general or only a certain kind of Fae magic? Molly and Harry can do things with magic that does not involve their mantles, and I was curious if Fix/Lloyd Slate or Maeve/Lily/Sarrisa could do magic as versatile as they could.

DF Spoilers / Evocation/Elements
« on: July 27, 2017, 11:01:04 PM »
So throughout the books evocation is said to be quick and dirty magic, like fire, lightning, and other classical elements. But there has been other forms of magic like the Fomor using Shadows, DuMorne conjuring eels, Denarians and necromancers summoning snakes and spiders that aren't elemental. Are these forms of magic actually in line with the elements, or is evocation more broader then I think it is?

DF Spoilers / Necromancer/Kemmler Magic/Cowl Theory
« on: July 25, 2017, 07:16:21 AM »
So after reading A Fistful of Warlocks I believe that I have found out what Cowl's necromantic abilities are as aside from the Darkhallow he has not used any so far in the series. First all of the apprentices seem to have a similar skill set with evocation as Grevane and Corpsetaker have both used lightning and kinetic/force energy in the stories they have appeared in with Cowl having the most gift in force magic. In the thaumaturgy side, Grevane used the more traditional necromancy, raising zombies as his forte while Corpsestaker used ghosts and spirits, both abilities that Kemmler himself was a master of. The last ability that he was most well known for was rising from the dead multiple times. Previously Kumori told Harry that Cowl has contended with death curses before and as he seemed the most powerful and more importantly intelligent of the three, he most likely adapted Kemmler's most useful ability while maintaining a disdain for the other sides of necromancy. Knowledge is power and this also gives credence to the Simon is Cowl theory as he would have no need to fake a death curse if he actually died and he would be able to be more active in the Black Council as events in the series have escalated to say the least.

DF Spoilers / Loose Ends and other Questions
« on: July 18, 2017, 10:20:40 PM »
Okay finishing my re-read of the series and I have a couple questions on some loose ends I may have missed.
1. Whatever happened to Evil Bob? Good Bob said in Cold Days he ran away from the fight as soon as he could and nobody seems to bring him up again is this foreshadowing his return or did I miss something?
2. When Harry fought Cowl he said that Cowl's magic was huge and different from what he was usedm to what did he mean? He specifically ruled out necromantic and vampire energy and aside from Cowl having a large reservoir of power I can't think of what difference Harry was talking about.
3. Lastly, do you think that Titania has aspects similar to Mabs? Or for that matter do the Ladies and Mothers have the ability to change into other forms as well?

DF Books / Water Magic Application
« on: July 18, 2017, 09:27:41 PM »
While there has been examples of elemental combat magic  throughout the series that Harry and others has used, water magic has not been seen in detail. Do you think with enough time and preparation he could use the entropy/disintegration blasts that Carlos uses, and in the case of the premier water mage in the world does Listen to Winds use a similar form of offensive water magic?

DF Comic Books / Lazy Journalism
« on: July 12, 2017, 12:46:03 PM »
So I was buying Dog Men the other day and I came across a Bleeding Cool Article and I discovered this passage.

“This is a fun project, because we get to play with a Dresden that is much closer to the character as he exists in the most recent books,” says Jim Butcher. “We get to see both Mouse and Molly in action, to show Marcone demonstrating why he’s the Baron of Chicago, and to pit Dresden against an archetypical foe of the Wardens of the White Council, a power-maddened warlock. We get to go on an adventure in Undertown, the Stygian labyrinth beneath Chicago, and in general have all the monsters, adventure, and uneasy alliances that are what the readers of The Dresden Files have come to expect from the stories. I love the way the story came out, and I look forward to creating more comic books with Dynamite!”
This a blurb from the Down Town book from two years ago. I mean for the love of God how hard can it be to fact check these? This is why you can't trust journalism anymore, clickbait and laziness.

DF Spoilers / Turn Coat Re Read Questions.
« on: July 10, 2017, 07:14:33 AM »
1. In Turn Coat Listen to Winds mentions to Shagnasty that Harry nearly beat him without knowing the Dine yet alone the Old Ways. What other Old Ways was he referring to, since the Dine aka the Blessing Way seems to qualify as tradition in the oldest sense.
2. What did Listen to Winds and Ancient Mai do while the others were busy fighting the Grey Men? It did not seem like they accomplished anything notwithstanding the thrashing Listen to Winds gave to Shagnasty.

DF Books / White Council Groups and Senior Council Clarification
« on: July 03, 2017, 11:43:39 PM »
So I have been looking for the answers to these two questions for a long time, and have come up with very little in the books, so I hoping someone else might know if I overlooked something.
1. What was  the purpose ofArchangel the location and how many inhabitants did it have? Bob reffered to it as a brute squad in Dead Beat and made it a separate group from the Wardens, and other members of the White Council, and in Blood Rites Ebenezar said that the attack killed more members of the White Council in its history so it must of been a very important group.
2. What type of magic did Aleron LaFortier use to justify him being a Senior Council level wizard?. Again in Dead Beat strangely enough considering my questions, Harry said that Ebenezar was the youngest and least powerful of the Senior Council and considering he was the Blackstaff he must of been more formidable then he appeared.
I only ask because I do not think these will ever get answered in the books and again just hoping for clarification if I missed something.

DF Spoilers / Outsider Magic
« on: June 23, 2017, 07:19:18 PM »
So Vittorio Malvora and to some extent Lord Raith have used Outsider magic but how it is used varies differently, enhancing the formers power, and removing magic on the latter. He Who Walks Behind is the source for both of these so is there a reason for the contradictory powers? And on another note Cowl has been said to use Outsider magic but I cannot remember, where did he use it in White Night somewhere or is this just speculation I took as fact?

DF Spoilers / Senior Council Magic Speciality
« on: June 14, 2017, 05:28:11 PM »
So we know what Ebenezer McCoy, Listens to Winds, and Arthur Langtry, abilities in evocation and thaumaturgy are, and since Peace Talks will most likely have them slugging out with one another, I was curious if anyone knew what Martha Liberty, Ancient Mai, the Gatekeeper, and Cristos abilities in magic, elemental or otherwise were? For that matter even though it is a moot point what did Aleron LaFortier bring to the table, since he was Cristos mentor maybe there is some overlap.
