DFRPG / Re: Astral Projection

Thanks. I appreciate the input. This particular player likes coming up with complex ideas and leaves it to me to figure out how it would work.

DFRPG / Astral Projection

I have a player who wants to make a rote spell which allows him to astral project. My questions is would this just give him use of "Ghost Form" or is this even possible?

Another spell he proposed was one which would allow him to basically puppeteer someone using electricity. This one sounded iffy to me.

Would love some opinions.

He texted me the question and I posted it as he had. I am assuming his intent was for the plants to serve as a source of magical power to sustain the wards, as not to draw from his personal energy.

Use the plants how? As an anchor for wards protecting a threshold? Or as a threshold on its own in the middle of nowhere?

DFRPG / Question about Wards

I have a player who has asked if, since magical energy is generated by living things, it was possible to use specially grown plants/trees to sustain wards?

Because of the fluid nature of the rule system, I did not know if it was permitable.

To me, if it is not something already covered in Dresden, I see no problem.

A while back, I was toying with the Puck race from the Leandros Bros series by Rob Thurman, which have not been covered in the Dresden novels. Her take on them is there was an original, who was also the first Hobgoblin.

I wanted to make a npc who was this style of Puck. Never finished it and it fell to the wayside.

I like this idea.

Thanks. Just found it.

When you make the donation you can see the update that gives you the web address (and password) to download the file.

Go back through the old updates and you'll find it there.

I made my donation a couple of weeks ago but have not seen the preview. I guess because it's so close to goal date, they might be waiting.

No way. The kickstarter hasn't been live for a day yet and it's already well on its way through some amazing stretch goals. Any pledge amount will get you the preview rules immediately, and I honestly don't see any reason NOT to pledge, unless you're somehow blocked by locale or are truly more broke than Harry Dresden. :)

I'm still reading through it and it's definitely still FATE, but it's definitely different in some ways too. I could probably convert my campaign about mostly-mortal monster-hunting bikers without too much trouble. If I had a party of wizards, I might be less gung-ho about trying to convert things myself, but then that's why this thread is here. Hell, we've already had Skimble post a method for doing barrier spells.

It would be a perfect time for me to do it. I am still learning the FATE 3.0 in the DFRPG. If I converted, I would not have to unlearn that much.

Is it too late to get in on it?

Hey all, now that Evil Hat's FATE Core Kickstarter is open, anyone considering trying to convert their DFRPG games over to the new hotness? Any hiccups so far?

I figure this thread could work as a repository for those hiccups, either ones I run into or if anyone else is trying this.

Sure. Would that be a better way to go?

One problem with "Quick and easy" systems is that you tend to overthink and end up complicating things.

Harry's Blasting Rod gives him a shift when doing Fire magic.

The item my player wants is an eyepatch which specifies his Divination to allow him to see thru the eyes of a trained raven. I am trying to figure out HOW to write it up.

So all we have to do is say what it does and that's it? Unless it's like Harry's Blasting Rod where it actually allows him a an advantage like better control over his fire.

All this does is allow the player to see thru the eyes of the raven so it doesn't have a roll or anything to activate?

Hate to have to ask this, but could someone help me with the process of building an item? The one in question is the aforementioned Eyepatch. He has decided it to be a foci for Divination and the raven is trained so he would not have to control it. I am considering it to be 2 slots since it would be larger than a ring (the example given).
