It sounds like "Hairy Carpenter."  It's not a very attractive mental image. :D  Harry even makes a "poor kid" comment when Michael tells him his new son's name.

And there's the inevitable joke about "Hairy Carpenter's crack."

What's the process for when people do this?  Right now there are a couple of posts on the first page that have spoilery titles.
(click to show/hide)

I enjoy reading the board, but I start to worry when people start posting about a book that isn't out yet.  I don't like to hear anything about what's in a book until i get to read it and take the ride.  I get that other people like to talk about leaked and hinted info. I just don't trust that info is always labeled. (I got spoiled for something in Cold Days before the book was released. I read it the day it came out.)

Are you talking about speculation or about stuff from the sample chapters / public statements by Jim ahead of release? If the former, there's really nothing we could (or should) do about that, but if the latter, use the "Report to moderator" button. Don't worry; it's not a "snitch to the teacher" thing; it's just a helpful shortcut to aid us in our clerical-detail work (there aren't many of us and it's physically impossible for us to check every thread all the time, so any help is greatly appreciated). Or, alternately, you could address a post to the person who made the post in question, but if the person isn't constantly active here, it may not get fixed quickly, so "Report to moderator" is usually the most efficient route.

As for the specific examples you gave... well, the first one is definitely still an off-base kind of thing, as it touches on events in CD, but the second one is from a number of books ago and is thus exempt from the forum's standard of "nothing from the latest book".

EH is one of the best-communicating companies I have ever seen. It's a safe bet that if they had more precise information, they'd give it. Patience.

Well put up a link when you do it and remember not to freak out after you hit the final save and publish button.  In about 12 hours you can frantically rush back in and make changes to all those little things that have you worried.   ::)

Also if you have any issues with the formatting of your file screwing the e-book fonts.  Just let me know.  My brother knows how to set it up nice and pretty.

Make sure to put up a link!

The problem is that the mods have lives outside the boards; posting it in one place as opposed to the other still requires that the poster have the time to do so. Be that as it may, we really do need to keep the Announcements subforum up to date.

Remember, there's also the Announcements subforum for... well, announcements like, oh, release dates. ;)

Clearly the only advice Jim needs is to keep on keeping on. Or just do it. Or some other myriad of annoyingly vague things that accumulate to him being told not to stop.

He doesn't even need that. In fact, telling him that is counterproductive; after hundreds of people have told you to do a thing, even if it's a good idea, it gets really old. Besides, it's pretty much a given that he already knows it.

In short, if you feel the need to tell him to do something, don't. Doesn't matter how well-intentioned the advice is; I can guarantee you he's heard it over and over and over and over and over... you get the picture. If you just have to tell him something, say how much you've enjoyed reading his stuff. That's good enough, and there's no way it can come across wrong or pushy or passive-aggressive.

Quick reminder, folks: Some of the interaction here is edging away from simple discussion and starting to heave into sight of interpersonal conflict. If you're feeling testy and think something's aimed personally at you, take a break and come back to it later once you've calmed down. Or if you can't do that, just don't come back to the thread that's setting you off.

You could also argue that the mistfiend was a construct, like the chlorofiend, animated by magic, but not necessarily "Living". Just a golem. That allowed it to hold the congealed anti-life [Mordite].

Speaking of staying on topic and not resurrecting threads that had been resting in peace... ;)

(Clerical aside: Would you mind not posting in all caps? Internet-speak sees that as shouting. If you're trying to differentiate text, there's always the italics option. Thanks! :) )

Well, it's generally a good idea to reserve restarts for when there's something truly new to add; thread "necromancy" does need a touch more justification, especially if it's a controversy-inspiring topic. But there's nothing wrong per se about it!

Best. Answer. Ever. Of course, I'm WAY more Rue than Katniss so I'd be SO dead. 'Cellie would probably be the one decorating me in flowers.

Bah. You're badass.
