Cinder Spires Books / Re: Where we are along the pipeline to release?
« on: June 03, 2015, 01:42:16 PM »
As a professional writer, translator and copy-editor I can say, that getting a book ready for publication takes a certain amount of time. That's just the way it is. There are several processes that come after copy-editing. The text has to be typeset and proofread before it can be printed and finally distributed. And of course it's also a question of marketing and planning on the side of a publisher. Often enough publication dates have to be postponed because something isn't working out the way it was planned. I've witnessed some crazy stuff since I started working in this field, believe me. Right now, for example, I'm still waiting for a text I'm supposed to translate. The people in charge announced I would get it by the end of March. Now it's June and I'm still waiting. The author finished it months ago, but obviously there's still some work to be done with it. Good thing I've got lots of other stuff to do in the meantime. It's just like everything else in life. September will come soon enough. Be patient, people, and enjoy the thrill of anticipation  :)

« on: July 07, 2008, 07:52:56 PM »
there seems to be a problem with the cafepress links on the website. a friend of mine brought my attention to it after she had tried in vain to get a splattercon!!! t-shirt. i'm just wondering: are there no more shirts? (because there might come a time when mine's been washed too often and i need to buy a new one... or twelve). so please just tell me that the link is temporarily not working  :-\

Author Craft / Re: How powerful should a protagionist be?
« on: August 29, 2007, 07:49:56 AM »
i think a protagonist must be different from everyone else, which means they must have qualities that make them better, stonger, cleverer, extraordinary or whatever. BUT the most important thing is that they remain human (even if they are vampire, werewolf or anything else). They need to have a certain amount of vulnerability to remain credible. They can develop new and amazing powers, but only inside the limits of the story, meaning new powers can't just pop up like daisies from the ground. They have to fit into the continuity and the protagonist's character. A protagonist should never be too powerful. Otherwise you end up having a second anita blake, who's pretty much unkillable, comes up with unexplained and ridiculous new powers just when she needs them and doesn't even have a proper story to justify all the 800 pages of way too graphic sex anymore. and we wouldn't want that, would we?  ;) anyway, that's what i think.
