DFRPG / Re: Please statting the Edward Elric

Im not sure I see it that way, all alchemy has lightning effects around the circle if nothing else, and the only state alchemist that had the avalanche effect that I real were those messing with specifically with solid objects (like Armstrong or the Gun guy) where more energy based attacks went to lightning (like the Flame or Crimson Alchemists).

What I meant in my metaphor is that all of the alchemy begins at the feet/hands of the alchemist and roars out from there in a wide patter (Mustang is the only exception to this now that I think about it, but that is because he is burning Oxygen streams in the air to get to the cluster at the target). The Crimson alchemist (when he is not using a stone) has his explosions begin from where he touches the ground and then they flow outward from there. The Elric brothers, Armstrong, Scar's destruction alchemy the Iron Blood Alchemist, and the Silver Alchemist all repeat this behavior in some form. I guess I was just always reminded of avalanches and landslides whenever I saw them doing alchemy, which I like to believe is on purpose on the part of the animators since Marco says that it works off of tectonic activity.

No idea; they're similar enough at least. Presumably the Dragonlines' connections to the world around the user (as opposed to just being an energy source like grinding tectonic plates) is what allows Alkahestrists to do "ranged" alchemy. Probably no other real difference except the user's perspective.

If you think about every single State Alchemist's alchemy it looks like an avalanche of some form, whereas Mae's is like lightning (following the path of least resistance)

(((Ru)))) It's good to see you!

Shear, I agree about the cats, but as Jim seems to like them (Mister) I'd say they won't be just villains.

I imagine he will portray cats as they are: not good nor evil, just assholes  :P

This sounds pretty close to a game that I am planning for 1960s Chicago. Height of the Cold War parnoia and when the Democratic Machine/The Outfit was just dominating Chicago. I live in Chicago so its easy to get ideas for locations but I'm having trouble coming up with supernatural stuff. Maybe we should compare notes or something.  ;D

I'm starting to design a setting for campaign i want to run for some non-indoctrinated TDF friends of mine. I want to set it in 1960s Chicago. Right now I have one of my City Threat ideas as "Politics, Business, and Crime: Three Names With The Same Face." and the working aspect is "The Cold Machine"

Another Idea/Aspect I got cooking is "Your Friendly Neighborhood; Their Bottom Line."

For some locations I'm designing:
"The Wrong Part of Town That Looks Right"
"All That Glitters Isn't Gold"
"Put Your Best Face Forward"
"You Get What You're Looking For"

...Yeah, I'm excited.  ;D Its gonna be my first time running an RPG game, kinda nerve-wracking.

All of his social skills should be superb. I mean, how many times does he keep his enemies (all of which know NOT to let him ramble on and one) standing there listening to him while his plan completes itself?

Ive always wanted to see a build of Gordon Freeman. "I shall kill you, with SCIENCE!" Hes sorta like a very nerdy version of batman in my eyes.  :D

Dunno about the balance, but I love percussive maintenance just for the sheer theme of it

Every time I or someone I know gets a piece of equipment to work again by beating on it my mind just jumps to the Warhammer 40k background of the Omnissiah and its machine spirits. "I COMMAND THEE! WORK OR SUFFER MY DISPLEASURE!!!" ;D

How does one  without hurting feelings suggest to a fellow player that their character concept is pretty cool but not really Dresden Files ?
Of course they have not read the boooks and refuse to read any parts of the rulebooks.

Maybe explain how much awersomeness they are missing out on through their stubborness and that even the rulebook is actually a very fun read compared to other ones on the market? The situation should resolve itself then, as well as letting your player in on the metric-ton amount of inside jokes bound to fly around the table. I unfortunately have never played the DF game because I know no one that plays but I can't imagine picking up a book-themed game without taking at least a half-glance at the source material. (but I AM a book nerd so...)

If not, can it be arranged?
Iv already snagged it for my own nefarious uses  ;D

Have I got a few suggestions for you. my dreams are really frakked up at the best of times. Ill leave out specifics but suggest some general fun twists to throw into the mix:

changing perspective of the player, as is shifting personas and viewing the world through other people's eyes on a second-to-second basis. (yes this has happened to me on numerous occasions most of which I wasn't even involved in the dream as a person but was being say my friend, or a stranger, or an old aquaintence. and it all made sense at the time, I switched viewpoints once progressing further in the dialogue was no longer possible from that perspective. )

in one dream i shifted from an average day at college, to a zombie apocalypse, to a skirmish aboard a starship troopers cruiser against big bugs both of which was filled with a great deal of pain, fear and triumph and not just something out of a video game, i lost count of the number of times I "died" from various perspectives. Then it jumped to having a great time at a comedy club hearing jokes iv never heard before in my life (whats that saying about you know your crazy if you tell yourself a joke you've never heard before?) and ending with starting to hook up with a really hot girl (of course that is when I woke up because that seemed strange to my subconscious and once i say "thats wierd" that dream collapses...god I hate my life sometimes.)

And I know I can go on and on but I can't recall more at the moment. Hope these help.

As for McCoy, how would he find her? She is not dumb enough to leave sympathetic links behind.

He hasn't and has got no leads on even where to begin, you can tell as she is still alive  ;D This can also be a long-term plot for your character. Dodging McCoy or striking a deal with him.

really cool man props ;D. now for the gm notes ;).

wardens are allowed to enforce the SPIRIT of the laws which i do belive they would do in this case, loop holes get you the doom not off the hook. so how has she escaped the snickedr snack for so long? if she is killing wardens that come a looking well then wardens will come a looking in force.

Also, you can consider that if she really is just THAT GOOD at arguing through the loopholes of the laws and the wardens cant pin her down as a lawbreaker (say through lack of evidence) than she might attract the attention of the Blackstaff. DUN DUN DUNNNN!!!

...which can also be another cool aspect to put into her character.
Trouble: Ebenezer McCoy wants me dead or something like that

DFRPG / a character build Im really curious to see
« on: August 24, 2010, 02:30:51 AM »
Iv had this idea in my head for a few weeks but don't have the materials to do it justice (sadly i moved recently away from my gaming buddies after graduating college)

so, my idea: how would one go about creating a character profile for the One Free Man himself Gordon Freeman? The crazed crowbarman, the silent theoretical (and applied) physics master? I know its not the Dresdenverse since its more science and aliens than magic, but I think it could work if you got creative enough.

any thoughts?
