DF Books / Re: There is a mistake
« on: September 30, 2017, 04:47:19 AM »
I don't know how often I hear Sunday referred to as the Sabbath by many Christians anyway, who don't realize the difference between the seventh day of the week, Saturday, the Jewish day of rest and the Lord's Day, which is on Sunday, the first day of the week. This mistake, if it is one was so minor as to not need consideration.

I'm waiting patiently, because I want to read the best book Butcher can put out. So I'll wait. In the meantime, my other books are getting a little tattered.

DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy in Peace Talks (WoJ spoilers)
« on: August 12, 2017, 09:52:13 PM »
I don't see Murphy coming back if she dies. That she might have a place in Valhalla or in some way in the magical afterlife, yes, but if she dies I don't think she'll be coming back. But then, I'm not writing the series and Jim can and will do what he deems best. He hasn't let me down so far so I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Unless Uriel is simply an Archangel, who along with other AA's is doing what they do, using their graces on behalf of humanity, for the greater good. . .

DF Spoilers / Re: New short story in process

Well, in the long term Peace Talks, but a Mouse/Maggie story for in between is okay. I mean, we still don't know a lot about Maggie and the short might clear a bit of that up.

I believe in Easter Eggs, especially from the nerd royale. .  .

Well, I have a feeling that Winter's eyes rested on Molly about as soon as Winter realized she was magical, which was probably rather early in her life.

DF Spoilers / Re: Morgan le Fay...

There's Elaine, there's Harry's mother, There's Harry's best friend, the knight of the Cross. There's the fact that Harry keeps being handed a sword that was once in the custody of a man who was called Wart when he was a boy. Hey even Harry's half brother plays into this Arthurian thing. .  .

I was going to say "that's magnanimous of you!" And I just did. .  .

Author Craft / Re: Fanfiction: Is It Real Writing?
« on: December 31, 2012, 07:04:51 AM »
I started writing with AU fanfiction and found it wonderful for building writing skills. I used a well known fictional universe and played with the characters, adding plenty of my own. It gave me practice and confidence. And courage. Because about halfway through the series, I discovered I had no more use for a canon character. None. So I killed her. The reactions I got were all positive, possibly because I handled the surrounding characters in ways those characters would have reacted, maybe the community realized that I couldn't do anything more with that character. But writing AU fic, also gave me more mobility with the scenes and characters, which was important, because the fanfic idea started with a what if scenario. What if such and such had happened instead of. . .? It worked out nicely, in the end.

Hmm. I write in the first person a lot, and I've found I describe my narrator through other characters and her actions. Nothing more. And it works. Nicely.
