Fred talks all about the TV show and tackles and defuses the "nerdfury" over changes from the books with the help of the man himself, Jim Butcher. Some other TV show chatter slips in here and there, and the show gets rounded out with a quick plug for some games that Fred has worked on in 2006.  Roll tape!

I've posted a lengthy delving into the ideas of lethality and toughness in the Dresden Files RPG, from a "look at the design process" perspective.  Interested?  Check it out here:

DFRPG / Very small peek
« on: September 14, 2006, 03:10:55 AM »
I spent all day working on getting a layout scheme done.  I haven't been all that happy with ones I've touched on in the past, but this time, I think I finally got it:

We're still months away from this turning into something more, but... I thought people might like to see it. :)

The deadly Doctor Methuselah seeks to unravel time itself with his solution to the Eternity Equation... Gorilla Khan stalks darkest Africa from conquered Atlantis... Mad scientists, strange sorcerors, and power-hungry dictators all seek to undo the fate of humanity. It's the final century of the second millennium -- and you are our last hope!

Spirit of the Century is a complete, stand-alone pulp role-playing game based on the award-winning Fate system (Indie RPG Awards include: Best Free Game of 2003, Best Support, and Andy's Choice). Spirit features a heavily revised, revisited, and reimagined vision of Fate. Character creation can be done as quickly as a few minutes, or expand to take up an evening; adventure design is a snap with three methods for creating relevant,  flavorful, player-focused stories at a moment's notice. Spirit's mission is to deliver an evening of fun, a "pick-up" game that requires little preparation, but provides hours of entertainment.

Announcements / Yes, We Got Spammed
« on: August 25, 2006, 05:27:00 PM »
Board-spammers have figured out a new way to spam us, and this time it was a doozy.

Please immediately delete any messages you get from "Charles Schwab"; I've banned the username, and the IP address.

I will also have to shut down the ability to register for the forums using an @yahoo.com address, at least temporarily.

DFRPG / Spirit of the Century - Survey Needs Responses!
« on: July 27, 2006, 01:36:01 AM »
(Spirit of the Century will feature the same core system as the Dresden Files RPG.  Your responses to this survey will help us "right size" our order for Spirit of the Century when the time comes.)

Jet Black is on a mission to find out who's interested in
buying Spirit of the Century, the upcoming Pulp Pick-Up
Roleplaying Game using the brand-new revised version of
the Fate rules, from Evil Hat Productions.

His report will provide vital information back to the
Century Club about how many copies of the game to provide
in the first printing run -- and it won't be complete
without YOUR feedback! (Note: this is not a preorder --
we'll get the word out about that to survey respondants
  once we're ready for it.)

All able bodied Centurions are asked to go to this link and
fill out this survey.  It'll take you about a minute:

        http://www.evilhat.com/spirit/survey/

The fight for the Century depends on you!

EDIT: This game has been released!  See http://www.evilhat.com/?spirit for more!

Site Suggestions & Support / Recent Outage
« on: June 25, 2006, 08:56:25 PM »
jim-butcher.com and the forums were down for a while (not sure how long) today due to a server reboot that wasn't as "clean" as it should have been -- had to recreate a database table and everything.  Big fun.  Everything should be back in order now, though.
