Announcements / Free Buttons and Preorderable Mania
« on: May 30, 2007, 03:15:20 PM »
Hi, Jim Fans!

Today we have just a few quick items for you, including some exciting news about some "preorderables" on the horizon.

Free Buttons

Jim's handing out some free buttons (great for wearing to conventions) with various quotes from the Dresden Files book series on 'em!  All it takes is a self-addressed stamped envelope with $0.56 postage on it, which you can send to the following address:

Jim Butcher Buttons
P.O. Box 185
Effingham, KS 66023

This offer is good while supplies last.  Send no money and affix all postage (56 cents) to the return envelope!

Season 1 DVD is on Preorder

Amazon.com has the first season available for $27.99 (last we checked), to be shipped august 7, 2007.  For everyone who's been hoarding the season on their TiVo's (like me) this is your way to finally free up some of that precious DVR recording space!

Early Dresden Books in Hardcover

The earlier Dresden Files books are starting to show up on Amazon in pre-orderable hardcover form.  This bodes well for hardcover-philes who are looking to build up their durable Dresden collection!

Storm Front: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0451461975/iagonet
Fool Moon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0451462025/iagonet

Also recall that libraries are more inclined to stock and shelve hardcovers than they are paperbacks -- so this is a great chance for local libraries to start carrying the Dresden Files in a form that will survive the wear-and-tear of frequent check-outs!

Hi folks!

Sunday Outage

The machine that jim-butcher.com is on is going to get moved to a new location on Sunday, in the mid-day/afternoon, shading into the evening depending on how long it takes.  Along with the domain name service change that this will necessitate, it means that the site may be down for most of Sunday while the internet catches up with where its new location is.  Your patience is appreciated.

More Ahead

This is the first transition of several planned over the course of the next several months, for Jim-Butcher.com.  While it's not necessary for Sunday's move, it may mean that I'll need to temporarily relocate where the forums are (and how they work!) down the line, but I'm committed to making sure that we retain as much of the forum as-it-is as possible through the future transitions.  This may mean that y'all may have to take a few days off at some point, though, since the forum is probably the most complex piece of the site that I'd need to move.  No timetable on this yet, though!

Thanks, guys.

(31min 45sec) Fred plugs in for a quick episode in a new format.  He checks in with Butcher Block News Correspondant Priscellie for an update on everything that's happened since the last episode, and goes over to the grill with Chad Underkoffler to cook up some "butcher burgers", looking into discrepancies in the continuity of the novels.

Announcements / Please restrain your picture uploadings

I don't want to have to turn off the ability for people to upload things to the server, but my disk space and network bandwidth for such things is fairly limited.  Please please please use other image hosting services like photobucket or smugmug or whatever to host your images; then LINK over to the images from your post.  This server is not operated for free; please don't cost me (or the people offering me hosting) money. :)

Moderators, please feel free to reply to this post with directions and guidance for where to host images off-site; I don't have the time to do that research and posting. :)

Hi, folks!

I've promoted Priscellie into the ranks of the White Council. She's now a peer moderator along with Mickey Finn and Ashton.  Shannon and Jim retain their honorary White Council positions.  I, of course, remain The Merlin.

That is all.

Go celebrate over in McAnallys or something, and congratulate Priscellie on her new that's-sort-of-actually-her-only-in-a-Molly-wig user icon!

Announcements / We now have a [spoiler] tag, so start using it!
« on: April 06, 2007, 12:26:23 AM »
Mr. Finn has the job of updating our various boards' spoiler policies now that I've installed a spoiler tag for the board.

Please start using it whenever you're posting something with a small amount of spoiler content on a non-spoiler board, or if you're posting an "off-topic spoiler" for a particular spoiler board (for example, if you talk book spoilers on the TV show spoiler board, the book stuff should be inside a spoiler tag).

Spoiler tags when used properly will look like this:

(click to show/hide)

Please make sure to "preview" your posts and make sure that the spoiler tag is working correctly.  (No, we don't have a little clicky-button in the editor to do the spoiler taggy bits when you're posting... I'm not sure how to add that in, so you'll have to type the tag manually for the moment.)

Thanks!

DF Books / Shirt Quotes: Buy Dresden Stuff!
« on: March 29, 2007, 09:04:56 PM »
So, I'm thinking the website should add a couple t-shirts to its list of cafe press gear, and I'm thinking the best way to do that (as it imposes no art-need) is to zero in on maybe two or three quotes from the books.

The business card thing -- that's been done.

But ones at the top of my head include:

"I the hell am Harry!"

(and)

"The building was on fire
and it wasn't my fault."

(Jim's favorite opening line)

Thoughts?

I managed to repair the membership database table without resorting to backups (which turned out to be more out of date for that table than anticipated).

Everything SHOULD be working now.

If it's not, contact me at evilhat AT gmail DOT com and I'll look into it.

Thanks!
