Sweeeet! But someone needs to convince Jim to head down to New Zealand so I can get a book signed and meet him *LOL* :D
It sucks being so far away from conventions (apart from the twice yearly Armageddon (http://"http://www.pulpexpo.com/")) and any good book signings *pout* :'(
-
Darn, nothing in Los Angeles? Aaargh, driving down to San Diego (my home for 17 of my 37 years on this planet) isn't necessarily that appealing.
No plans for the Los Angeles Times Book Festival? I would think that would be a no-brainer.
-
I am in New Zealand also is there any chance he will sell off some signed copies off his site ?
-
*bounce*
I love Mysterious Galaxy!
-
Aaargh! I'll be moved and living in Germany when Jim comes back to Washington!
<--is sad.
-
'Cellie, you weren't able to talk him into bullying his agent into getting him a signing stop here in OUR stomping grounds? 'Cause I can't have too many signed books, y'know. ;)
-
You know...he could go to the BORDERS in Saint Peters...
It's a much happier place...not nearly as formal...and I work there... ;D
To sweeten the deal, I'll buy you a steak dinner...

I offered to treat Jim and Shannon to dinner at this ridiculously good BBQ place, but alas, the schedule had already been set. Perhaps I'll try bribing his agent as well, when she's setting the tour for Dresden #11...

Count me in (i.e., I'll pitch in for that - both the dinner and the agent bribe; for that matter, I'll pitch in the best pizza anywhere, if he's willing to come to our place and get stared at by cats) and which ridiculously good BBQ place? 'Cause I've been in the market for one, being the displaced southerner that I am.

Hill Country BBQ (http://www.hillcountryny.com/). It's run by Texans, and they import Big Red soda--this girl's nectar and ambrosia. Man, I need to get a group of friends together and invent some kind of special occasion that justifies going there soon... *gurgle*
-
I'll even up the ante...
Steak dinner and beer. Lots of beer. Lots of steak.
I'm really not kidding.
-
Oh - Texas barbecue. Good stuff, to be sure (and I certainly wouldn't refuse to eat it LOL), but I'm more of a pulled-pork mustard-sauce kind of guy. KC style is okay, too. I was just automatically making the leap to the conclusion that it was southern-style BBQ, not Texas-style. I'll still pitch in and go, though. ;)
Big Red soda? I'd swear I've had that before (lived in Louisiana for 6 years). Is it that wonderfully syrupy cherry-flavored soda? *edit* No, it's not the one I was thinking about - but with it being a cream soda, damn right I'll drink the stuff. Hey, if you like flavored sodas, give IBC Black Cherry a try. I don't drink sugared soda any more (or not much - part of how I beat diabetes), but I do treat myself to one of those a couple of times a year. Yum.
-
Yeah. Other than the two Big Reds I've had in the past four months, I haven't had a single carbonated or caffeinated beverage since 7th grade. I make an exception for Big Red, because it is my childhood in a bottle. :D

That's Yoohoo for me. Or, if I'm in an area where I can get it, Pibb. My wife doesn't even comment when that happens, because 1) she knows it's a rare thing and 2) it's a very special treat.
-
All this talk about BBQ makes me want to drive to Pappas BBQ down the road.
-
Sorry to jump in on the bbq discussion ;), but I was wondering if there is a specific day that Jim is going to be at Madicon.
Btw, Virginia bbq is the best- tomato based is the way to go.
-
Just read that Jim will becoming to Polaris in Toronto Ontario. Anyone know how busy the convention gets and how $$$ it is.
Thanks
-
Free time in Seattle?.... Absolutely MUST go see the new downtown public library... On Time Mags top 10 list of notable buildings. (For KC fans---yes your new addition to the art center made the list as well!) The library is glass and tilted, as I remember like a cube. The area carpets make you feel like you are floating in virtual space. Take the elevator to the top and walk down.
this is definitely worth the trip! I've done a lot of sight seeing in the area--but the library just blew me away. added benefit is that it's free. ;D

If he does that one like he does most others, he'll be there for all 3 days. Of course, any and all of that could change at a moment's notice and 'things' happen.
Dreamland BBQ (I went to the one in Norcross, GA) has some of the best BBQ ever! But, I was raised on that good NC bbq - based w/ the vinegar! :)
-
*snerks* If Jim actually eats all the food we're trying to push on him, his belly will be so full he won't be able to reach the keyboard. :D
-
The man does need a little meat on him. ;D
But he can put it away - did you not see him absolutely house that burger at the PhauxCon dinner (when we let him not talk for a minute, that is)? ;)
-
Of COURSE Jim is going to be in Houston three days before I am, and only there for ONE day.
I can't get them to move the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to the previous weekend, so I can fly in earlier from Boston...
I'm just going to sit over here and pout ALOT. >:( :'(
-
but best wishes on the AVON WALK for breast cancer.
You know if you call the store where the signing is going on, I bet they'd get you a signed copy and hold it for you to pick up when you do get in.

Thanks Highlander! I think my lil sis is going to get a surprise visit that happens to coincide with those 3 days ;D
-
Man, I'd really like to be able to make it to the St. Louis or Chicago booksignings. I live between both of them.
-
Perhaps I'm overstepping the bounds of this thread, but what's MileHiCon like? It's the only place Jim will be this year that I even have a hope of reaching (I live in Salt Lake City, UT.) I mean, I've met authors I like before, and I have no illusions that Jim and I will become bestest, bestest buddies when we meet. So what the rest of the show like? My friends all like to go to Nan Desu Kan in Denver, and I tagged along one year- it seemed like a cool city. But my con experiences in the past have been less than stellar. What makes this one good?
-
Mickey, are there any plans for a get together in Houston like we did last year?
Stitch
-
Totally agree with the requests for Jim to venture further out into the world!!!!!
My hubby suggests that as him and cars don't seem to mix all that well, why doesn't he catch the train to New York and then the QEII boat to the UK??? This way he'd get a couple of days peace and quiet to do some more writing ;D :D :D
And if the UK ain't a possibility (which is a shame, I know!!!) then any chance that he'll be at San Diego ComicCon this year??? Only cos some friends of mine are going and they could grab us an autorgraph, of course!!!
If not, then a girl can dream.
Huge hugs to all of ya,
Hel :)

I wish Jim would come to Dallas. Houston is nearly 5 hours away. Texas is a really big state. Jim went to Houston last tour. Please spread the tour cities around. Like Bob said about Dallas, they have some world class Men's Clubs. They also have great Steaks, Tex-Mex, and BBQ.

Houston is still better... :P ;D

Romantic Times 2009 will be in Orlando, Florida. Priscellie, tell Jim and Shannon that we want them to come to Florida next year so PLEASE put us on the schedule. ;)
-
Has Jim ever been to Minnesota? Its not that im from there or anything?

-
Damn!
How many times can Jim come "close" to where I live, or where I will be visiting, but I've already got plans to be somewhere else!!
I know there are virtual signings, but I'd much rather be there in person. It just makes it more special.
