DF Spoilers / Justin, Elaine, and Kumori
« on: November 12, 2017, 11:25:51 PM »
So, a lot of speculation about Justin has brought forward the idea that he was actually more of an anti-hero type than an evil warlock. The evidence to the contrary is that he thralled Elaine. The only evidence I can recall is her saying she was a thrall.

Now, if Elaine is truly Kumori and therefore an acquaintance with the extremely evil Cowl, she would have every reason to lie. It’s a great reason for Harry to trust her, especially since he would reflexively look for a reason that Justin was evil.

I think Justin was just willing to do almost whatever was required to stop Nemesis, including not treating his human weapons with kid gloves. Harry ran away and Elaine was left alone after the big fight. A scared and vulnerable teenager is exactly the kind of person a Nemesis follower would recruit.

As such, I submit that Elaine has been playing him for a very long time and that Justin is actually a utilitarian good guy. Also, I say is because Jim said that Harry was as dead as Justin in Ghost Story.

While I don’t think it will actually make an appearance, I would love to see a reference to The Holy Prepuce. If anything would have had the blood of Christ on it, I think the leftovers from his circumcision are a safe bet. And that’s exactly the kind of thing Harry would encounter because it’s just that ridiculous that someone would try to weaponize it.

On a more serious note, it’s highly possible in my opinion that other major artifacts will become relevant. Judas’ Noose and the Denarii are a good example. I’m curious if David’s sling or the stone that felled Goliath might make an appearance for instance.

I think it would be a little kitschy for Harry to have three children of different species. Between Maggie and Bonnie I think he has enough on his plate

Almost as if these are...wild ass guesses?

It also seems to me that the Blackstaff can do just about whatever the hell he wants. Part of having a deniable asset is that you don’t want to know what they’re doing most of the time.

For any number of reasons. The time wasn’t right, it was just a small piece of a larger picture, a Xanatos Gambit. There’s lots of reasons why not. It could also be that it was asleep or wounded or otherwise couldn’t appear.

Well...Eb was there because they were trying to kill him too, technically. Don’t think it counts as abuse of power in that case.

You gotta look for the man behind the curtain with all of Dresden’s enemies. Who’s to say that CI isn’t the home of a dragon that was using the Red Court for its own ends? Jim is a self-proclaimed lazy writer and it’s very much his style to drop little things like that way in advance. I could totally see Harry having to go back and having crazy amounts of PTSD

It also might be as simple as the danger of mentioning him. If you aggressively say you’re looking for him, there are a whole lot of people that will jump up to slap you around and if you mention you know him personally, you’re painting a huge target on your back. I also like the idea that eventually we’ll see someone claiming to be him because they haven’t heard he’s back from the dead, so someone will show up calling themselves Harry Dresden...to intimidate Dresden.

I got an email from Amazon called Urban Enemies featuring a short story by Jim...and I've heard nothing else about it. Am I missing something?

I think it'll actually be him trying to stop it and subsequently getting foiled by the dumbass wizard that makes a habit of kicking out tent poles and looking smug about it

I have a feeling Nicodemus is going to turn out to be instrumental in bringing down the big bad. He's making choices that a "moral" person wouldn't because someone has to be willing to throwaway a million lives to save seven billion. While Harry will ultimately tell him to take a flying leap of a high building, I think he's playing the chess master role. Why would he want to save the world? Because he lives in it and being a mindslave or a corpse isn't an option. The world needs to keep turning if he's going to enslave it himself.

The most important reason Harry needs to be able to communicate with them is so he can make a smart ass Silence of the Lambs joke. Obviously.

Him is a lazy writer and likes symmetry. Remind me who the current wielder of Amorachius is?
