Announcements / Announcing "Backup"!
« on: January 13, 2008, 05:22:15 PM »
We have a wealth of new info about Backup, the hardcover chapbook being published by Subterranean Press.

Backup is a novelette written by Jim Butcher and illustrated by comics legend Mike Mignola, best known for creating Hellboy.  Its length is tentatively set at 80 pages, and it will be published this Halloween in two editions, described below.

Quote
Let's get something clear right up front.

I'm not Harry Dresden.

Harry's a wizard. A genuine, honest-to-goodness wizard. He's Gandalf on crack and an IV of Red Bull, with a big leather coat and a .44 revolver in his pocket. He'll spit in the eye of gods and demons alike if he thinks it needs to be done, and to hell with the consequences--and yet somehow my little brother manages to remain a decent human being.

I'll be damned if I know how.

But then, I'll be damned regardless.

My name is Thomas Raith, and I'm a monster.

So begins "Backup" a twelve thousand word novelette set in Jim Butcher's ultra-popular Dresden Files series. This time Harry's in trouble he knows nothing about, and it's up to his big brother Thomas to track him down and solve those little life-threatening difficulties without his little brother even noticing.

Backup will be available via Subterranean Press in two unique editions:

Limited: 500 signed numbered copies, bound in leather ($45)
Trade: full cloth bound hardcover copies ($20)

« on: December 20, 2007, 05:01:27 AM »
Great news!  Captain's Fury shot to #17 on the New York Times Bestseller list for hardcover fiction.  Congratulations to Jim!  If you haven't read it yet, snag a copy from the Jim-Butcher.com store.

Also, we have big news on the short story front!  Jim has announced that he will be participating in Kevin J. Anderson's "Blood Lite" anthology, featuring humorous horror stories.  Jim reveals:

It's called 'Harry's Day Off.'  You know, I thought it would be nice to just have a Dresden Files story where nothing happens.  Harry has a quiet day at home reading a book.  Hey, it could happen. :)

Watch this website for further details, and discuss your thoughts on the story here.

In other short story news, don't forget to pre-order My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon, the short story anthology featuring Jim's "Heorot."  It arrives in bookstores December 26th!  It recently received a glowing review and four-star rating from Romantic Times, which you can read in editor P.N. Elrod's Livejournal

Remember, the store is also your source for Jim Butcher books, shirts, audio books, posters, and more!  If you're still looking for a holiday gift for similarly-minded friends, family, and enemies you wish to convert to friends, you can't go wrong!  Also, don't forget the Harry vs. Kalshazzak poster offered by the Dabel Brothers, publishers of the upcoming Dresden Files graphic novel.  Nothing quite says holiday cheer like a naked wizard hurling lightning at a giant toad demon.

Site Suggestions & Support / The ads!
« on: December 12, 2007, 12:55:17 PM »
I never thought I'd say this, but... the new ads look great, Fred!  Very understated and out of the way and harmonious with the layout, not to mention actually topical.  Hopefully they'll bring in a little cash to offset the cost of running the second domain!  It boggles my mind that as successful as Jim is, you're still having to cover his site expenses out of pocket.  Pony up already, ROC! :D

Announcements / Comic book concept art, distribution news!
« on: November 14, 2007, 05:40:54 PM »
The Dabel Brothers, publishers of the upcoming Dresden Files graphic novel, unveiled their new website today!  Dresden fans will delight in the fantastic batch of concept art images, featuring Harry, Murphy, Morgan, Marcone, Bianca, and Carmichael.

The launch also coincided with a juicy new announcement: the Dabel Brothers have entered into a new distribution agreement with Del Rey, an imprint of Ballantine Books, to bring their products into the trade book market.  In spring 2008, the popular literary comic book publisher will launch comic book adaptations of three major properties: New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz's Frankenstein: Prodigal Son; Jim Butcher's bestselling The Dresden Files; and George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards. The graphic novel versions, to be distributed by Del Rey, will go on sale in summer/fall 2008.

The long-term arrangement will result in broader distribution for their graphic novels than they have had in the past, explains Ernst Dabel, President of Dabel Brothers Publishing. "While we will retain our autonomy and continue to operate as an individual company, we expect the Del Rey sales team to greatly expand our reach into such markets as libraries and independent bookstores."

Announcements / Small Favor blurb
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:21:38 PM »
Thanks to Amazon.com, we now have a blurb for the tenth book in The Dresden Files, Small Favor!

Quote
No one's tried to kill Harry Dresden for almost an entire year, and his life finally seems to be calming down. For once, the future looks fairly bright. But the past casts one hell of a long shadow.

An old bargain has placed Harry in debt to Mab, monarch of the Winter Court of the Sidhe, the Queen of Air and Darkness-and she's calling in her marker. It's a small favor he can't refuse...one that will trap Harry Dresden between a nightmarish foe and an equally deadly ally, and one that will strain his skills-and loyalties-to their very limits.

It figures. Everything was going too well to last...

Small Favor hits shelves April 1, 2008.  Pre-order your copy here, and discuss this blurb on the forum here!

Announcements / Small Favor in Audio!
« on: November 08, 2007, 04:18:44 PM »
Great news for audiophiles!  From JamesMarsters.com:
Quote
James has been contracted to read his fifth book on tape in the Dresden Files book series. Although Death Masks is the next book in sequence, he will be recording Small Favor, which is the most recent in the series and, according to the Dresden Files website, due for release April, 2008.  James will be in the studio later this month to begin the project.  A new publishing company, Penguin Audio, has been hired to release the book.  More details to be posted when available.

According to Jim, the release is scheduled to coincide with that of the US hardcover in April.  In the meantime, you can purchase the first four Dresden audio books from the Jim-Butcher.com Store!

And now, a word from the great gals of Buzzy Multimedia, who brought us the fantastic audio books for Storm Front through Summer Knight:
Quote
Here is the update that many of you have been asking about. The next Dresden Files audio will be released by Penguin and James Marsters will still be the narrator. The book to be recorded is Small Favor and will come out simultaneously with the new print book of the same name.

Jim and Shannon Butcher have been and still are very supportive of Buzzy.

Penguin and James will continue to produce incredible work...after all look at the material they have to work with. Buzzy Multimedia is not going away. We are just regrouping and getting ready to bring even more wonderful audios your way in 2008. Stay tuned.

In the mean time please know that we will be carrying the new Penguin line of Dresden Audios as well, and you'll find our prices and extras more than competitive with sites such as Amazon and Barnes&Noble.

Buzzy wants input from all our supporters and fans. What novels, authors, series do you love and aren't in audio? What actors can you hear narrate them? We'll be waiting to hear from you.

Thanks,
June
